This fight makes so much more sense when you know the reason that Cinder set up Yang against a known troll was to make it obvious to the world that she had a temper.
This WHOLE fight was just to set up Yang for her frame job against Mercury
and since the order was messed up this will not be a spoiler for Kat

My theory is that Penny was planning to throw the match against Pyrrha. She was gonna use her losing as an excuses like " needing more real world experience ", or something like that. At least that's what I like to think.

Well unless it involved living on the streets, obviously Penny was going to need to get quartered somewhere.
We'll see. That's the advantage of an artificial character. You're never quite sure they're really gone.

And yes, Neon Katt is a Cat Faunus. In direct contrast with Blake, she apparently dyes her hair and tail to accent her Faunus traits. She's also very outgoing (according to the manga).
I'm so glad you were able to repost this! The score for the Team FNKY fight still rocks years later! By the way, Neon is a cat faunus, and her character was inspired by nyan cat.
What's great is FNKI were exactly what Weiss said they'd be. Disciplined and perfectly able to get in WY's heads. They had a strategy figured out going into it and knew how to throw Weiss and Yang off their games.
That was not disciplined. They had a strategy going in of separating Wiess and Yang, but that was because Flint had an axe to grind. Then he didn't stick to it, and tried to jump in the other fight before he was done with Wiess. If he had finished her off first, and then went on to Yang, they might of won. Well, maybe not have won, but would have had a better chance.
@@bskec2177 Fair point. They were more coordinated than WY seemed to plan for though. Flynt had the axe to grind yes but they were smart enough at first to beable to use it to get to Weiss before the match started.
In a way, I'm almost glad this was delayed. It's interesting getting to see you react to one of the most upbeat episodes in the volume back to back with the utter chaos and devastation that is the end of the volume.
"Protect Penny, ALWAYS"
Alas.
A good note about Flynt and Neon is that Weiss says they should expect a carefully rehearsed strategy from them, which was why they were throwing those taunts at WY. It was just their strategy to throw them off balance, which was also why they became nothing less than friendly and adoring once the match was over. The "never miss a beat" mantra Neon kept using was likely also part of her battle co-ordination. I like that that stuff is so subtle and not overstated or anything. I really like them and I hope we see more of them.
While is unlikely we'll se more of team FNKY, I don't even need to say when is the best chance for that happening

The reason that I love this chapter is likely because of the music that plays during the fight. "Neon" is a really good song in its own right, but the way it gets cut off by a scat version of "This Will Be The Day" and eventually a jazzy "I Burn" I absolutely love the soundtrack

Even though the animation in this fight is not the strongest, this is one of my favorite episodes. I love both Flynt and Neon as characters, even with just the little development they get. And Neon's glowstick nunchucks (she even "cracks" them to activate the ice dust; love that touch) are probably my third favorite weapon after Sun's and one we are yet to see in a reaction. Plus the fanart of Weiss and Flynt is fabulous...
Finally we get to see your reaction to this epsiode. Neon full name is Neon Katt and she is based on Nayn cat. That's why she always left a Rianbow trail.

This is the content I was waiting for who cares about some reaction.
Fun Fact number 2: Both Flynt Coal and Neon Katt are the first characters to be a reference to Music and memes; Flynt Coal is reference to a Joke from a Minecraft Let's play from Rooster Teeth having to do with both forms of ore, and Neon is a reference to Epic Nyan Cat...you obviously know what that is XD Flynt's style is a reference to Jazz music and Neon is a reference to J-pop/Rave music... hence the Trumpet and Glowsticks nunchaku

Now fun facts
Fact 1: Neon Katt seems to be based on Nyan Cat. Flynt Coal is based on a running joke from the Achievement Hunter Let's Play Minecraft series.
Fact 2: Port's line, "Looks like Yang's angry! And you wouldn't like her when she's... upset" is a reference to the Incredible Hulk's catchphrase, "Don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry".
fact 3: In the original plan for the episode, Pyrrha and Nora Valkyrie would have faced Sun and Neptune in a doubles round match. Unfortunately, the fight had to be cut for time and lack of relevance to the plot. Neptune's fear of water would have played a role in the fight, and the biomes used would have been "anti-grav" (the Tron-like biome seen in background of Penny's fight, also seen during the main menu of the DVD/Blu-Ray), swamp, ice and desert. Obviously, Pyrrha and Nora would have won the fight so Pyrrha could progress to the singles round. Given that Sun appears as one of the finalists in "Fall", canonically, this match could not have actually taken place.
Fact 4: Qrow's phrase "I'm not even sure he has a heart" referring to Ironwood is another comparison to the Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz, who was searching for a heart.
Fact 5: The last few seconds of the score from the fight between Team R.W.B.Y. and Team F.N.K.I. are used as the outro theme for several Rooster Teeth animated shows.
Fact 6: The credits, like usual, play part of the score throughout their duration. In this episode, it plays part of the "RWBY vs. FNKI" track. In the online version, it plays the Brass remix of "I Burn" (heard when Yang fights Flynt and Neon by herself). On the DVD/Blu-Ray release, however, it plays the scat vocals of "This Will Be the Day" by Casey Williams (heard when Weiss summons her glyphs against Flynt earlier).
At first, I thought this was somehow episode 11.

Hey Kat, if you want more of a lore behind the characters. Oz is like the wizard of Oz. Ironwood is the tin man from wizard of Oz. Glenda goodwitch is the good witch of the north. Qrow is the scarecrow of the story as well.

*Starts watching next reaction* Ack! Maximum cringe! Intensify forward deflectors! xD Oh god the song keeps going and I'm dying! Hehehe that was great. That absolutely slayed me.
The song Neon from Team FNKI's fight with Weiss and Yang is one I really hope you did in the Lyric room. It's one of my favorites. :) I think Neon deliberately trash talks her opponents, because when they get so angry they lose control, it throws them off. It's nothing personal and I don't think she really means any of it. Unfortunately it really backfires on her here. You really don't don't want to fight Blondie Sir when she's...Yangry. But Yang does something really clever as well. She jumps up in the air and starts aiming at the ground, breaking up the terrain, which eventually causes Neon to slip. Also, Weiss's sacrifice came within one point of knocking Flynt out of the match, which gave Yang a chance. All she had to do was hit him once to finish him off, so while it didn't take him out, Weiss tackling him into the lava geyser wasn't for nothing. But yes, the fact that the characters are complex, flawed and human is one of the things that shows how well crafted this series is.
Trivia time! When Qrow, talking about Ironwood, says "Sometimes I'm not even sure he has a heart" it's a clue to what fairy tale character Ironwood is inspired by.
Yay, more RWBY. Best video ever. Kat, you have a great singing voice. Stay awesome.

This is the fight I've been waiting for, so their names are Neon Katt and Flynt Coal. They are awesome. Their team is Team FNKI as in Funky. Because trumpet and they look like they belong in a 70's Skating Rink.

Y'know after you mentioned Jaune Arc's arc, I thought... Y'know, maybe his arc should end with him being the hero with a callback to the training sessions with Pyrrha and a thing from volume (I want to say 4, but it could be 5... idk the two just mesh together when I try to think about them). That'd probably be a heavy decider on whether his arc's conclusion is good or not.
