Me and my friend playing the same version 1.41 HD from GOG. We use Radmin VPN to create local network. When I create the match, my friend paste my Radmin IP address into the game and then, can see my match and my nickname in a session list, but if he tries to connect, the game freezes for a bit, and throws him back to main multiplayer menu. I tried to connect him, but got the same result. We turned off Firewall and Antivirus, I also disabled DEP for this game, but this doesn't really help. Maybe we should add ports along with IP?

it could be due to the firewalling and such. While in game Press Alt+T to see your ping. If your ping increases drastically when you get the connection issue then it is probably the internet connection between you.
This wont fix the issue, it will only rule out one possible cause of the issue. If there are ping spikes then the cause is your network, and using a VPN that allows for port forwarding should make it more reliable. In fact that might fix the port forwarding stuff as well. Windscribe has a free teir you can try to see if that helps. If that doesnt fix it then your firewall is likely the issue. Try switching that off on all players computers just to test and see if it helps. Another option for playing online is hamachi, basically you create a network in hamachi, other players connect to that network, which provided a virtual lan between you, and you can run the game, and search for local games in the multiplayer menu. Hamachi is great if you know who's going to play, but you cant exactly find new opponents there.
can't play more than 2 players! we wanted to play as 2 vs 2 but when we start the match there are only 2 players and the game for other players is too slow like 1fps! please help (playing on gameranger)
It's odd that the two can play but the others can't, everyone should have the same experience. Are you sure the maps are working? If you have the unofficial crusader patch installed, make sure nobody has spectator mode installed. The other thing I suggest is to run windscribe VPN, as it usually bypasses any network setup issues, there is a free teir that should be enough for just playing multiplayer.

A mismatched ucp install can cause that sort of problem for everyone, if you use ucp you need to be absolutely certain everyone has the exact same options. I usually share the ucp.cfg file to help with that.
do you know if it's possible to play multiplayer even if you didn't get the game off steam but on cd? Cause me and a friend have it, but it's V1.1 and we can't figure out how to play together
Yes you can, many people on gameranger play with 1.1, in fact all the "expert" games are played with 1.1. You can only play with people who use the same version.

They often say that 1.1 is more stable, which i believe may be true compared to 1.2 and 1.3, but I havent had much issue on 1.41 myself, except in situations that cause issues on all versions. Others have said they dont like the higher resolutions, however you dont have to use them if you dont want. My guess is that its simply because everyone else playing expert games are on 1.1, if you upgrade to 1.41, the people you want to play against are still in 1.1, so you go back to using 1.1
@KLAW Dreadklaw a balance patch wont convince them to change, they will be skeptical of any balance change, and fair enough. The main thing that i think will convince them to change is bug fixes from ucp for 1.41, then there is a real benefit to upgrading. And there are some good ones getting prepared for next version.

If you can't do port forwarding, try installing windscribe VPN, the free their has 10gb of data, and it usually handles the port forwarding for you.
