I loved the Boss recorders.I really wish they'd do a modern update, with MIDI retained and USB with Flash. I bought an old Zoom MRS 1608 on ebay, it is customised with Flash Drive storage instead of HDD.I love it. Thanks for the nostalgia👍
Yes, its a shame they were discontinued. Midi is so often missing on hardware recorders these days, and is something I use all the time. I'm not familiar with the Zoom MRS, but it looks very similar in features to the BR1600. I have a few of the Zoom Drum machines (RT-223, SB-246 and RT 323), which are fantastic. The Boss recorders can be modernized too, to a degree - my main BR1600 is fitted with a removable SSD, which makes it completely silent and vibration free as well as being really convenient (and fast) for backing up and transferring to and from a PC. Thanks for the comment 👍
Thank you for taking the time. You are totally right about the lack of MIDI in today's tech too.Love your channel and appreciate your thoughts. The SSD is amazing.👍
Great stuff I’ve just bought a BR1200 cd (I’ve previously had the 532 and 900 units) - can’t you do a video on how you manage to use the removable ssd if it can be done on the 1200?
I bought one new for$1600 and sold it for $100 because I use a computer but if it wasn't for that noisey hard drive and it's quality decreased after 4 tracks and sounded thin. The mastering part is what I miss
It is possible to switch out the old HDD for an SSD, in which case the machine becomes *completely* silent (with an increase in speed of around 18% at start up). As for the "sounding thin after 4 tracks" - I'm not sure what that could have been. I've never heard of anyone eles have such an issue. I've recorded a lot of songs with multiple BR 1600's, some with 40+ tracks, and I never saw anything like that either.
Please, Please Please do more videos on this unit. I love these tutorials
