Recently got my Christmas present early and it was a electric guitar, I’ve never played a guitar and I’ve always wanted to start, so I decided to and for 2 days I couldn’t do anything right and thought about stopping but I looked up beginner lessons and found this and it really helped me, thank you for helping me start playing, much love🙏🏽❤️
Just retired at 65 a couple of weeks ago, and am picking up the guitar again after a really long time off. This first lesson material was very encouraging for me.
Just inherited my dad's vintage (made in 1975) electric guitar and my God I'm in tears that Marty is teaching the same way my dad started to teach me. God bless you sir. Will be watching all lessons 🫶🏾 thank you thank you THANK YOU
I’ve tried to learn my entire life and gave up over and over. I’m a vocalist and have written piles of lyrics I’d love to put music to. When my grandfather passed I inherited his mint 56 Sunburst strat and vintage fender tube amp with a hand written note inside (the real prize) encouraging me to learn, so I’m pushing through and learning.
@@Yenkosyc I've been following Marty's youtube videos since 2009, he helped me a lot and his videos were invaluable to me when i first started learning and here I am 10 years later and still watching his beginner videos.

I've been playing guitar for over 20 years. I wish I'd had you as a teacher 20 years ago.. Your teaching style is simultaneously forgiving and encouraging.
I have a question…when I play the sound stops. Am I pressing too hard on the string. I’m so confused!! I want the sound to keep going when Im “sliding” on the string.
I’m 42 and I’m attempting to learn guitar with very little music background. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do. I found this video extremely helpful.
I'm 50...decided I wanted to learn this year. Got an acoustic from my wife for Valentine's Day. Just got a Squire Strat...I love Marty's videos. Super helpful.
I'm 63 in April. This is all presented in a way that I can understand and follow. I started when I was 60 and found Marty music. If I can follow this, trust me anyone can.
@@Steve-n5n1f Well, lucky I'm retired and have lots of time. I've been a bassist for about a year now, and just now picked up a electric guitar. I definitely have kind of an advantage since I have pre-knowledge of music, but it's still very hard 🤣 I love guitars though, and I'm excited to watch more of these videos and learn
@@FearDoe Yeah the size of the strings and neck are what really throw me off though. Like it feels so small and breakable, and the strings feel non existent 😅

I've just got a guitar after I got a head injury when I was 13. I couldn't make sense of it for about 10 years. I gave it up but I want to play now. You make sense and I'm getting it. Thank you so much
If you’re about to buy your first guitar, i would really recommend an Epiphone or squier. They are cheap and will serve you well. My first electric was a squier strat, and I have had it for over 2 years, and done some modifications to it, and it’s becoming a real dream guitar. You don’t need expensive gear to be good at guitar
@@kathrynsmart1639 Equally important is getting a better amp than the one in this video. It has very few tone options if you want to create the sound of your favourite guitarist. Marty could get a good tone from a tin can. Consider buying a Katana or Marshall Code.
Hi Marty! I see this video is over 4 years old from when I am visiting it. I just want to say that I embraced the fear of beginning this journey, thanks to a friend who referred me to your channel. I'm watching this video knowing damn well my father is against me playing the guitar. He always forced me to play the organ for the church, but my actual goal is trying out the electric guitar. My friends always told me that I should try to play the guitar, but my father did not like my intentions at all. All I can do now is just wait until he finally changes his mind. I always thought playing the guitar was hard, but seeing this tutorial made me realize that everything has a potential.
I'm about to purchase my first electric guitar and seeing the title made me super happy. Thanks for being so dedicated to giving back with these lessons, Marty! You have our infinite gratitude and support!

@@rajatjain5436 If you want to play electric instead of acoustic then start today!! They are very different instruments, people often think they should start on acoustic and then "graduate" to electric. If anything it should be the other way round, electric guitars are much easier to play and you can get a good sound like your favourite guitarists just using a few notes and chords. For example the intro to "Satisfaction", 3 notes on one string and you're a rock star!!

Your videos are amazing. You explain things in such an easy to understand way, and I'm loving your videos so far. Hoping to get to a point where I can grind some Led Zep, Dire Straits, Audioslave etc. You're awesome, keep making videos! (please;)
I like the fact you're a great teacher. You are relatable and remind us to relax with it, have fun, do some checking out of the different sounds can be made. It takes off a lot of pressure and at the same time of learning, it's more fun, relaxing . Not scary with the thought and anxiety of 'what if I can't do this?" So simple, thank you.
You are a talented teacher. So many "beginner videos" assumed that the viewer already had a decent foundation of guitar knowledge. It was actually very disappointing until I scrolled past this dude! Ty
Yo Marty, my man! I started playing when I was a kid, then stoped for more than twenty years. I was thinking it’s way too difficult to resume again at my age (45) BUT YOU, my friend, made me see how easy it is once you have a great teacher to show you in a simple way. Already remembered House of rising sun and now I’m following with the incredible Dust in the wind. Thank you from my heart

I played accoustic guitar for one year, but it's almost 3 years ago. Suddenly, my interest in guitars came back, but instead of accoustic I wanted to play e-guitar. Your videos are really helpful to get back into guitar playing. The pace is not too slow so you get boring, but also not too fast to get lost. Very cool! Thank you a lot!

Thanks Marty. Your lessons are so good and I cant wait to try them out and I'm gonna be buying some further lessons on your website I think. It's amazing reading the comments how many people you have helped!
I took only one lesson from your lessons online I'm very excited to get back into it. I'm working on this beautiful project and I want to learn how to play this song I wrote before February 2025. I still have to write the notes that I want this certain song. It's a very special event for myself and my family in February.
Thanks! Absolutely learned stuff. I am not a musician, but I like to make things. I found an interesting YT about making Native American style flutes…after watching about 8 videos I ran across a bamboo grove in a riverbed. I made some garbage, until I made a few that had what I thought was a good tone. I was doing this while driving a bus route that afforded me 15-30 minute breaks periodically. Gave some away, and some passengers wanted to buy them. One person I gave one to because he is a musician, and thought he might give me feed back, instead gave me an electric guitar with an amp. Now I am starting to explore this wholly new thing to me. Thanks for the newb love!
Two nuts, the one on the guitar neck, the other (goof-ball) giving the lesson. I watched this video back in December 2020 and have been playing every day since. Marty's playful nature and corresponding fun lessons make it easy to stay motivated and get better with the guitar. Major props. If you're on the fence, go check out Marty's website and take advantage of a slew of no-cost lessons. On top of that, there are lessons you can purchase as your skills inevitably pile up.
I have a guitar ordered for my birthday. I have always wanted to play guitar and these tutorials are so easy to understand. Your teaching style matches me perfectly! Thank you so much for this help!
And I always used "Every Adult Dude Guzzles Beer Everyday" when I first started guitar years ago as my guitar tuning acronym. The hell with Eddie and what he eats.
Its been five years and only now i came across this video. I always wanted to play the electric guitar, but never really confronted my parents about it, and now i finally have the courage to do it. When i get it, if i get it, ill comment again and let you know how it goes (and from the comments i read so far, it think it will go great with this tutorial)
Hey Marty here's an idea for Beginner guitar players who are not really interested in learning anything beyond the basics but want to be able to play with the least amount time and effort, you can make a whole series on it and maybe call it The Lazy Guitarist or The Impatient Guitarist. OPEN TUNINGS (with or without a Capo) particularly Open G. There's a guy from England you might have heard of who has written more hit songs and became a multi-millionaire with the Open G tuning than anyone else and a lot of time he did it with just 5 strings, Keith Richards. There's almost a endless amount of Rolling Stones songs in that tuning and most can be played with just 1 finger and 2 or 3 easy shapes, if they get bored with those you can show them what they can do when they add a Slide to Open G. Not just Open G but Open E and D, DADGAD tunings. One thing just about every beginner has in common is patience should say lack of, but once they learn a few songs or a few bars then they want to learn more and more complex things. Anyway it's just an idea.
