- In this video, I share with you the beautiful city of Freetown, Sierra Leone; the Freetown you don't often see on TV. I also give you a brief history of how the name Sierra Leone Came about.
Sierra Leone is a country on the South-southwest coast of West Africa with a population of over 7 million people. Some of the tribes include Mende, Fullah, Kuru, Krios (the freed slaves who returned to Africa. I'll bring you a video on this).

Sani Abacha st. is dedicated to the late Nigerian head of State. Nigerian soldiers fought our civil war with bravery and gallantry, some of us that witnessed the war as a kid still acknowledged their help.
I'm glad to have learned this part of our history (Sierra Leone and Nigeria). Honestly, I didn't know this before now. I was a child when this happened so I didn't know. And we're not really taught our history as we ought to
That civil war blocked my visit when invited to Sierra Leone. May Peace & Prosperity bless this beautiful country.
Yeah, I'll remember this one for life! I was just a boy, 12 years old. Was during the final battle of our diamond conflict, (our so called civil war) Sani Abacha Street which is formerly known as kissy Street was one of the toughest battle points of that memorable intervention by the joint ECOMOG and Sierra Leone arm forces against the RUF rebels led by Foday Sankoh. ECOMOG, a west African military force, mostly Nigerians. The intervention was led by the Nigerian General Maxwell Kobe with an incredible support from the late president of Nigeria Sani Abacha. (Sani Abacha, what an African pride he really showed to Sierra Leone to help end our conflict.)
This is just a little part of the story. As Africans we must continue to lift up and defend each other.

Sierra Leone as its name meaning crouching lion in portuguese, was descovered by a portuguese sailor who came to the coast and saw a mountain resembling a crouching lion hence the name. The country speaks creole language which came as a result of intermarriage between freed slaves and locals

Lol, the reason why they have Sani Abacha's road in Sierra Leone, is because of the role he played during their civil war. During the height of their war, all African countries withdrew their armies, except Nigeria. This happened on his watch. We lost a lot of soldiers and dollars in that war. It was well documented. Hence, why most folks from Sierra Leone have soft spots for Nigerians. No word of a lie!!

Brother Wahab Odusola Nigeria did not lose a lot of soldiers or dollars during the war that ravaged a sister nation. Nigeria sacrificed in order to save us. That’s not a loss my brother. I live overseas today but I was there and I witnessed it all. Nigeria saved Sierra Leone from total destruction…and we Sierra Leoneans will remain grateful to Nigeria for ever. I understand your point, but don’t call it a loss when you saved a dying family member….instead you should be proud for doing so….we, Sierra Leoneans, are proud of you 👍….
