Thank you so much for preparing interesting and useful videos! As far as I am concerned, the capability of XFEM crack propagation modeling for coupled temp-displacement analyses has been added since ABAQUS 2021 release. But apparently, PHILSM and PSILSM options are not available to activate the crack display. So I'm wondering how the "crack propagation display" could be activated!
One option is to do it after finishing the simulation and removing the elements that have deformation larger than a specific value. you have to find the value by trial and error. I am not sure where exactly it was but you could find the option in our 2nd and 3rd videos which the bullet penetration was simulated.
Thanks for your feedback. I double checked the file and it looks good would you please give it a shot again and if you face any problem please send your id and screenshot of what you see to following email: administrator@hyperlyceum.com
Well thank you for this very intresting video Mr. ! Is the interaction module the check box of allow crack growth is diavtivated , so please do you have any idea how can i activate it ? I need to get the stress intensity factor using xfem method so if you can please help me with this detail
Hello I am working on a project involving ABAQUS XFEM for stationary crack to obtain SIF and for crack propagation. However, I have encountered few problems. I have listed them below. 1. Simulation performed on stationary crack using classical method ( by defining collapsed elements around the crack tip and mentioning singularity) and xfem provide similar SIF results, when compared, under the same loading and boundary conditions However, the stress values near the crack tip differ by a larger extent in both these cases. 2. For crack propagation using XFEM, the following errors have been observed: i) Too many attempts made for this increment ii) Too many increments needed to complete the step iii) The increment required is less than the minimum specified Could you let me know if you have any suggestions to resolve the same.
"the following parts have some elements without any section assigned ", this error is coming for the crack plane, can you please suggest why? And how to solve it.
Thank you for your video. I have a question about crack increment length in XFEM: how do you determine each crack increment length △a in every time increment? Is it computed by Abaqus automatically?
Hi! Thanks for the video. I tried simulating the same model used in this with no changes, but my job is getting terminated with an error message saying "Too many attempts made for this increment" around the 26th increment. I don't know where I am going wrong. Can you please explain this? Thanks.
To aid in obtaining a converged solution, the solution controls can be modified. From the step module, select other => general solution controls => edit => step in which solution controls are to be edited. Press continue when a warning message is displayed. In the time incrementation tab, discontinuous analysis can be checked. This allows Abaqus to do more iterations before checking whether the solution is going anywhere. In the first More tab, the parameter IA can be increased from the default 5 to maybe 20 or more, to allow Abaqus more attempts before aborting the simulation.
Another option is to add viscous stabilization through the "Damage Stabilization Cohesive" suboption. (Warning value can influence result accuracy, start small and verify)
THANK YOU FOR THIS AMAZIGNLY INSTRUCTIVE VIDEO!!

did you solve the coupled tempersture displacement problem without subroutine. please help if possible.
The file you gave in the comment is the straight line though??

Does XFEM applicable in dynamics explicit method?
Great video! could you please tell me if I can do this for coupled temp-displacement instead of general statics.
I have not tried it but I think you can and takes longer time to solve
HOW TO FIND Energy release rate in this case ??
we might make a video based on it but it is not in the near future unfortunately
can you do a fretting wear with a substrate coated material ?
Thank you for your comment,
I will consider it,

Can you do radial crack propagation for solid shaft using xfem?
I think so but I am not sure,
I hope someone else with more knowledge could help you.
"the following parts have some elements without any section assigned ", this error is coming for the crack plane, can you please suggest why? And how to solve it.
Did you find the solution?
Having the same issue, does somebody know how to solve it please?
I am getting error of ***ERROR :too many attempts made for this increment. Please help me how to resolve it.

What about the sections you assign a section for only one element what about the other

Good tutorial but too fast, cannot follow
