    Cut a tiny corner off a credit card and use it to scrape along the sealer after you've put on the line and come back with a soapy cloth and wipe it. Much better finish.

    Totally right, polycarb is great but its very light compared to glass , i was goin to buy a small alluminium polycarb greenhouse but too many bad reviews about wind trouble i decided to build my own from timber.
    I know not everyone is handy at basic joinery but it worked for me and was still cheaper and stronger than an alluminium one.

      The dream is to build one. HOw is heating it? From everything I have watched, and read, a properly sealed polycarbonate, costs less to heat than the equivalent glass greenhouse, due to the double walls. Just wondering if you have found that to be true or not? I would prefer glass, and may get there one day. My greenhouse was a gift from my mother. It has good reviews online, but there were complaints. That is why I put this video up. From all the greenhouse threads I read, some people who caulk and seal have had their greenhouses up for 10yrs or more. I hope so, but not holding my breath either. LOL .

      @@ValereeSayre i live in uk so the growing season is long enough without need for heating it , polycarb is a great holder of heat and depwnding on thickness .
      i grow tomatoes, basil in the greenhouse and once end sep comes i dont use it untill spring so dont really have to worry about heating it.

    That helped a lot thanks. My greenhouse blew apart when a storm hit and this helped it stay together and not leek

    Cut my tip on a angle to get it deeper 😵 I think she will have to make do 🤣
    Another wee tip is to push and not draw the silicone, a spray of water and soap makes for a tidy clean up. Or spit but a big area would need a lot of slobber

    This was helpful...I also just did this because my original panels from the greenhouse I ordered on Amazon flew out and cracked. I ordered 8mm panels and they are so much sturdier :)

      So far so good, We had 30 mph sustained wind, and wind gusts up to 55 mph the other night and it is still good. I will admit I have heard so many horror stories, I am always still a little nervous. We had harsh winds at christmas as well, and it has held up. So far, so good. I am glad it helps. That made my night.

    • @ValereeSayre

      It helps, but I still need supplemental heat in the form of a electric heater. It does keep it from escaping so quickly, and helps keep the cold air out.

    We took so many extra measures when we put mine up but the first wind storm blew all four of my vents off and I lost one. I hope you have better luck with your greenhouse.

      We have had up to 70mph winds, so far so good. I hope it continues to hold up. Only time will tell. Fingers crossed. So sorry to hear yours did not hold up. That is a bummer.

    Only have mine up a couple of weeks and when it's rains it's leaks in sealed the outside base I have it built on concrete. Going to try your method of sealing the panels especially the front and door where I seem to be getting most leaks

    Hi, so do you apply the silicone to the inside or both (in and out)?
    Thanks

    • @ValereeSayre
      @ValereeSayre  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      On the lower panels I did it on the outside, on the roof panels I did it on the inside, because it is unreachable from the outside.

    Hi Valerie. Thanks for video on caulking the seams of a polycarbonate greenhouse. My question is: Will it hold up in areas where snow is prevalent? I live in Minnesota and I’m concerned about the roof’s strength with sealing the seams. Thank you.

      I am not sure about snow. We used to get a lot here, but don't anymore. The most we have gotten is about 8 inches since I have owned it. The snow slid off. I don't know about more snow than that, Sorry.

    Is there a reason you caulked on the outside rather than the inside? If you mentioned why and I missed that but could you give me your rationale? What brand is your greenhouse. (Sorry I just got to the party late)😃 I have 8x6 gh and just got a little heater for it that is waterproof! (cool) mine leaks too, but solved that issue with a panel switch. Thanks for sharing your ups and downs. It helps us all out here trying to grow our food (and fun)

      I did not show it but I actually caulked inside, and out. I also used spray foam insulation in the top peak, because the gap was too large for silicone. I am gonna do a follow up soon, once the weather gets a bit warmer. I hope to answer some of the questions I have had since filming this video. I could have been more clear on some things as well. Thanks for watching, I am so glad it helps.

    Does it help with insulation?

    • @ValereeSayre
      @ValereeSayre  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Sorta, it helps keep the wind out, and also helps to keep the trapped heat from escaping. Which helps stabilize the temp inside.

      @@ValereeSayrethat is what I need trap heat in , we just finished building our planta green house, I was thinking calking the seams and plastic inside the doors as there is a small gap between top and bottom door. It was plus 5 c here in fort smith nt this morning but the same inside the greenhouse, I am planning to move plants and start seedlings in there this weekend.
