Good Morning all and thanks for a wonderful request Bill. I agree with Margaret 100%, this is a song chronicling his life with the original rescued dog and her/his eventual death. Also feel sorry for people who never know that special bond owners have with their pets, there truly nothing like it!!!! Not sure you should have rated this one Don, as it was an homage to his best friend but I'm okay with a 9.5.----#UTRCM
I'm so glad that glad that you like the song. I knew that you liked Mo and I was pretty sure you would like the song. It's my favorite of him. You are right, there is not enough of him on the radio. Thanks for doing this song. God bless.
he picked up the dog 10 yrs. ago and this is the story of him and the dog. The dog dies from old age and he is going fishing for the 1st time without the dog.
Good request Bill. Same premise as "The Rescue" (which you wouldn't rate and weenied out 🙂) by Bri Bagwell.. I felt it because the unconditional love and unwavering loyalty that dogs offer their owners make you do almost anything for your dog. My dog, that I rescued from the pound, got hit by a car and it cost me 12 thousand dollars to save him (that was a lot of money in '85). But the dog was like my best friend and went everywhere with me, in my truck in HS. Thanks for the good reaction Don. Since you brought up George Jones "Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes" You gotta do do Georgette Jones & Lisa Brokup "Who's Gonna Fill Their Heels"
There is no such thing as 'just a dog'. I think he picked up the furbaby that was on the side of the road. Then the rest of the song is about his life with the furbaby.
Hey Don, you should check out Zach Top at some point. I’ve not been this excited about a new country arrtist breaking through since Mo Pitney. Zach just released an album earlier this month and all the songs are winners!
Great request Bill. As a dog lover, I get it, totally. Mo nailed it. Thanks to Don for rating this song so highly.

Great song!
What an excellent song. Hard to listen to though . I still grieve over the dog in my profile pic. He was the best!
