This really exemplified low brass dominance in everything over high brass. The high brass was dying to play a low brass and the only thing they could handle was a baritone.
Whoa whoa whoa. Take a step back here. It was an effect and we chose baritones and euphoniums for the choice in tonal quality and how the two sounds blended well together. Before this, we were experimenting with mellophones over baritones.
I'm not sure when exactly they switched to all euphs but they have marched all euphs for a very long time. The exceptions being in 2007, they did have a small group of baritones and in 2006 for Ava Maria, the trumpets switched to baritones and played them up until the pit had their feature, at which point the switched back.

MMM! Listen to those snares at 2:38- 2:42! And then the whole rest of the drum break.... God, phantom blows me away.

what a great show this year. Keep it up guys and gals at PR!
I thought it was a really good and faithful arrangement.
just listen to the power those euphs put out at 2:30!!!!!!!
sweet, sweet mellophones..
this arrangement completly butchered an amazing orchestral work. Can you people imagine what prokofiev would say if he witnessed this? Disgusting.
