  • This piece is played on the new Moog Claravox Centennial Theremin. On the front, I've placed an image of the very young Clara Rockmore, dressed in folk garb with a tiara of some sort that I altered slightly to give it the feel of an icon. Rockmore is considered the greatest thereminist that ever lived, and rightly so. She singlehandedly (actually doublehandedly) brought the instrument to a level that saw her touring with Paul Robeson, performing with symphony orchestras all over the world, and more.
I've chosen a beautiful and upbeat melody entitled "Troika" to assist in making the transition from the depths of winter to the beginnings of spring. Backgrounds are from the gardens around our home.
In this video there are as many as twelve separate theremin tracks playing simultaneously and as many as five simultaneous synchronized video screens. The idea was to "orchestrate" using only theremins, and to simulate a balalaika ensemble, particularly the instrument's characteristic tremolo. By the way, the tremolo effect is actually being created using solely a manual finger/hand technique, as opposed to a mechanically generated tremolo produced by an effects pedal.
    Here comes srping...

Thank you, Anna. I appreciate your comment very much.
When your Theremini arrives, you can get up and running well by looking at the tutorials. And the very first tutorial that is the most crucial deals with the precise calibration of your instrument. It's the single most difficult issue that Theremini players face. Once you have become proficient at the initial calibration (which has to be done every time you turn it on) you can begin playing. Here's the link:
      th-cam.com/users/results?search_query=Kip+Rosser+Theremini+101
and here's the link that reviews the procedure and demonstrates how quickly it can be done:

From there, you can have fun and explore! Please let me know how it goes.
      Best,
      Kip

Brilliant playing and very creative video and arrangement! Such a haunting melody, with the lyricism beautifully contrasted by the precision of the “balalaika” accompaniment, and I love the Rockmore icon!
Here’s to spring… shall we expect a Prokofiev Lt. Kijé cover as a companion arrangement when winter returns?

Very possibly, but for now, I'm getting the hang of a different piece and how to play it while hold a glass of wine in my pitch hand...
