Its sad when they leave there special force units only find themselves in civilian life and quite often struggle with the situation I think each one should get at least £250,000 as a retirement fund for what they have given to there country

If we’re being honest every tier 1 unit from a first world country is gonna be equally comparable and the deciding factor would fall back to their support and any advantage one or the other may have!! As far as tactics and training SEALs and SAS are equally trained and funded and the selection process for both is equally as rigorous!!! The SEALs and SAS/SBS are literally friends and train together and operate together regularly!!!

the military need permission to fire upon the enemy even if some dumb son of a bitch is holding a fire arm, the infantry have to wait for the enemy to fire upon them before we can return fire, the standards of having to ask permission to make the kill shot, has dropped tremendously a soldier should know when to shoot and who could be a threat to them selvs and there company "they fight like lions but are led by donkeys"
RoE are set within a debrief you total muppet, and the order to kill is given before the mission even begins. +Paul Buttrill I grew up In Hereford as my dad was in the SAS I the 80s! It runs in the family! I been part of the creation of the Swedish SAS called SOG! These are the best guys we been training and educated so far! We where often in Mazare Sharif during joint SOG and SAS operations! In fact the Swedish SOG and the SAS have got the highest % of accomplished missions! I highly respect the SEALS and DELTAS but they operate totally different compared to the SAS and SOG!
Ever heard about the US Marines Battalion that got surrounded in Afghanistan by elite enemy forces. SAS went in to get them out, and succeeded, a 4 man squad rescued a battalion of Marines, the SEALs said they could not do it.

Every soldier on Earth stands in the rain and skips meals, and most of us don't have tea breaks.
I really enjoyed this episode a lot. Especially the interviews where they talk about mariage and leaving the sas. Many wise and deep thoughts there. Nice to see these guys being portrayed not only as the rock hard soldiers (that they are) fighting all the time, but also as normal, compassionate humans that they still are behind all the elite training.
Other units disagree... 4 man team is bullshit... giving the machine gum to point man, likely first to get hit makes little sense..
Do not worship any unit... learn from them to the extent something Makes sense to you.
One thing I like about British units is they still keep belt kit as base kit... you can learn a lot from the British services for sure..

That's the sacrifices that any Special Forces Operator must face while married. Unfortunately not many wives are prepared to understand and adapt to the rigours of marriage with a military serviceman, that involves many hardships whether in peace or wartime.
So much respect to those SAS heroes - I wish the government treated them better and gave them the post-SAS honours and care they so deserve.
Also they just don't make documentaries like this anymore sadly - absolutely fantastic! So interesting and well-made.

Not just that, less than a century ago it ruled almost 1/3rd of the planet. That fact alone makes me respect the hell out of the British people,outstanding blokes,outstanding fighters. The regiment shown in this video is itself one on which all other excellent SF units have been based on and has always been the most innovative SF unit till date.

I don't understand all this Seals vs SAS chest beating. If there was an armed conflict and both USA and UK were involved I'm sure the guys from either unit would be happy to know their counterpart was there. UK assists USA and visa versa.
I am a Navy veteran and the thing is patriotism runs deep. I have known US sailors who hate the British. But when you get down to the nitty gritty we do help each other.

Don't forget the Royal Navy's special forces unit the Special Boat Service (SBS).
Pretty amazing, i love all this kind of stuff but towards the end when they're talking about leaving the SAS/Army or whatever and starting at the botom of the pile i can't help but think it's stupid that these people aren't set up for life when they leave the SAS and even the forces in general. A footballer gets paid millions for kicking a ball around while these true heroes go through immense training and go through unbelievable stuff only to leave it all and have to take a shitty job to make ends meet. Sure, some of them write books, make games and get on TV shows but it's a far cry from what they deserve. I'd like to think if i were royalty, stupidly rich or whatever and i got taken hostage for example, i would make sure the people involved in my rescue lived comfortably for the rest of their lives.
These days normally they set you up with work with a security company, although if you don't fancy that your on your own.

The training doesn't end when one is selected. Soldiers of the SAS, and any special forces Unit, train constantly. They are always pushing the boundaries, extending their capabilities. These guys often develop mental illness because of the nature of the training. They deserve more help when they leave the service
These guys are so down to earth, they almost seem blasé. But that confidence comes from knowing what they can do when required.
Great guys. A boss I had was ex-SAS and a nice guy, professional but down to earth.

I am from Mexico and I have a lot of respect for any soldier who fights for his country, But I have a special place in my Heart for the S.A.S they are such a special type of Unit.
I only wish my country could have men like the ones in the lines of this regiment, I´m damn sure my country could be a better place.

Go read "Inside Delta Force" by Eric Haney. Delta Force was modeled almost exclusively after the SAS. Even their selection phases mimic the SAS's, all the way down to the relaxed manner of the instructors during the selection phase.
Richard Marcinko (creator of SEAL Team 6) even had his SEALs train with the SAS regularly.
Bottom line: Without the SAS we wouldn't have a lot of the special forces units we have today.
The SAS are the ultimate regiment, only a handful of men in the whole regiment and they are still a force to be reckoned with

When Eddie Stone says being SAS, does not give you a god given right to a descent job; I disagree. When you are highly trained or skilled or qualified, I think you do have a god given right to have a descent job and career and be given the respect you deserve. If society is going to insist that highly skilled, trained and qualified people exist, then society should respect you after you leave these roles, as well as during them. Otherwise, what is the point of all the specialised training and skill development.
First of all it's spelt decent not descent lol. And no you don't have a God given right to any job just because you were in a special forces unit lol. You have to be qualified.
I remember I had to get up early to my new job, but the telly was showing 3 episodes of this. I got 1 hour of sleep at the most before I needed to go. Great series.
Interesting to see how many of these SAS men are Scots. I imagine their backgrounds and childhoods made them pretty tough to begin with. Glad that they're willing to give their service on our behalf.

my family member was in WWII 'sas' - he literally disappeared and noone had any idea that he was active in that core. it wasn't until he was in his late 40's, some 20 odd yrs later it was known - the only people who did know was the wife, brave men.

I didn't mean to set up a nationalistic debate - all our services have allegiance to the queen. I'm English and would be sad to not to have our Scottish brethren in the regiment. It just wouldn't be anywhere near the same.

What makes them better than other special forces soldiers who are very good themselves like US Navy Seals is simply self motivation. It is hard enough when someone screams at you all the time and helps you keep going but finding the motive and the inner strength yourself is really hard!!

You find the big muscle men are the first to quit in the special forces its all about your mindset stamina and thinking for yourself not how big and strong you are that's an SAS regiment fact

Yes I agree that SAS and other Forces often have it rough after returning to Civvy Street. It's a poor use of highly trained and motivated people, to have them back at the bottom; perhaps unemployed.
IF I were an employer, I would be proud to have the sorts of skills they have. And I don't even mean in Security work.
They would be self reliant and able to work alone. They would be able to think quickly and react to changing situations using their own judgment.
Many would have First Aid skills already. And having spent several years in the Service, Their loyalty, commitment, and motivation and leadership would also be good for any firm and colleagues in team setting.
Again, I would be proud to have them in my Firm or Project. Sad to hear about Mac. All the best to them all. Jack.

the interview part at 50:19 onward is imo impressive and touching at the same time. it shows the human side of the elite soldiers, what they think of family, what their worries are, the problems they face after service and that theyre in fact not a bunch of thugs. its very important to show that side too, not only the glorification of invincible special forces drones.

It was SAS who agreed to teach the Americans for the yanks to get their own elite unit. Called many names, in the 90s they were called Delta Force, now Special Team 6. Change your name all you like, the SAS is still the standard. Many American marines and special forces have tried to get into the SAS.

Eddie Stone....Yup, met the guy when he came to visit the barracks I was serving at in the TA. Did a RTI talk and exploded a few TF's behind us all which shat us all up. Sound bloke. Did 2 weekend survival courses with 23 SAS(V) back in 98 and 99...again, top bloody blokes. I say survival, but it was more like a recruitment weekend on both occasions...No....I didn't go for selection....far too tough and admire them 100%

100% OK with you ! I was in French Paratroops (9 and 1st RCP) and I saw the same thing.
British units are much more rustic than the U.S. units. Royal Marines are very good, real badass!
But the design of combat is different, for U.S soldiers the fight is mechanized, not for UK or French troops.
UK or US fighters are good in their job and I was proud to fight alongside this brothers in arms!

Don't see how any other special forces can compare themselves to the British SAS and claim they are better when the British SAS were the first special forces unit in the world. All other countries special forces are based from ours. We are the best at what we do. And that's without question.
