      That is crazy, what are they hiding? Maybe because they are nasty and don't want you to see their mess. So I will say I agree with that Jesse.

      I've had nasty hoarders and they have no problem letting you see their mess. They don't think anythings wrong. I'm guessing that lady was just paranoid. Once in a while you get weirdos and it's usually women. They call you for service and when you come out they want to know who you are, they want your ID etc etc. I tell them you called me. I tell them once I'm not doing all that and threaten to leave. They usually stop but a few times I just left.

      Heard a child in the background-a parent/adult being protective of a child is respectable, but if there’s something else going on, then people can be very nervous about letting a repair tech inside. Perhaps they think the work only needs to to be done outside, because that’s where they see the unit. But customers don’t know if there’s connecting systems inside the place.

    Wish you were close to me. Im having trouble finding a hvac person who will even attempt to fix my bryant gas lack unit. Had 4 companies pull up and immediately tell me i need a new unit cause mine is too old. It's got super cold air, just not much air flow. Everythings been cleaned, so im guessing the blower fan is an issue, maybe. It's hard to find a good hvac guy. Im enjoying your videos. Watching all your stuff so i can try to fix my unit myself..lol

    Another great video Curtis. I have a suggestion. Get a large beach towel and use it on the floor under where you are working. Good customer PR and easy cleanup. Throw it in the washing machine if need be. Take care!

      I don't have a nest, I have the Bell & Howell and it is about 7 or 8 years old. It's a nice one and handy controlling from your phone when you want. Especially when you are out. My system is old, so I had to hook up the c wire, but nice to not have batteries anymore.

    Here in Australia I have run into a few of these as well so I say do you want the system fixed or not I need to look at the thermostat as well as the rest of the system outside to work out whats wrong if that's a problem I just walk away because I am too busy to deal with that and I am always very nice and respectful some people have issues however they rang me to fix the problem so if I cannot acsess all of the system I cannot help them.

      It's an on off switch like a light switch

    • @johnnieburkhalter5265
      @johnnieburkhalter5265 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      A thermostat is a switch that reacts to temperature. Old school thermostats used mercury, which as it was heated/cooled by the air, would expand/contract. Those would work with a little glass tube that had mercury in it and the adjustment was the angle or tilt of the glass and that changed where the mercury was in the tube. When the mercury expands, it bridges two contacts together and thats how it switchs the system on.
      What came after were bi-metallic strips. That was a coil of two different metals that had different expansion rates. So you can imagine that as a bi-metal strip heats up, it wants to curve, as one metal expans a lot, and the other does not expand as quickly. They are put in the thermostats as coils. As the coil heats up, it would expand, and baiscally spin and hit the contacts to run the system. Adjustment for these was similar to Mercury thermostats. The adjustment of the thermostat would turn the coil to be further or closer to the contacts.
      Modern thermostats use resistance to detect temperature and has its own logic inside of it to figure out what its gonna do.

    She might just be overly-cautious, as a woman home alone with a child, having a strange man come into the house. (Hence what appears to be a "Check-In" call that she took on speakerphone.) We've all heard the stories of fake techs, and genuine techs, doing some very rotten things. There could be any number of other reasons why she's hesitant. It might be something as basic as she's a very private person. Or maybe she's had some negative experiences in the past. 🤷‍♂
    It's definitely one of the cleanest houses you've been in. The child wasn't bothersome, and the child noises sounded like happy child noises. No chirping smoke detectors, either!
    If you're anything like me, Curtis, you're probably holding on to all the extra screws and sheetrock anchors. 😁 Probably have a repurposed coffee can in the van just for them, right? lol
    17:20 - Future Callback averted. This is what Chris over at HVACR VIDEOS calls "big-picture."

    Isn't it just amazing that people expect you to fix everything and not want you inside their home..and once you explain that to fix issues you must have access..then you get inside only to find a messy immigrant family..who only complains at the end cost anyways..just hope they pay the bill
