Hi Joe. What an excellent review. Everything completely clearly explained and at a great pace. Well done. I came to this (initial) review from the '4yrs later' follow up. That was also excellent. I like the cut of your jib, so I have subscribed. Regards Mark in the UK
Honest and frank review. I came to this after seeing the 4 year update review. Proves you were correct in your judgement in this one. I have a number of screwfix Titan products and they haven't let me down yet. Nice to see reviews from ordinary working people rather than a sales rep. Going to get one - soon as they come back in stock. Thanks
Thanks mate! Really glad you found the reviews useful. I always watch reviews before I buy anything haha cant beat seeing what actually users think of the products
A bloody good and honest review, thanks Joe. Great delivery, easy to follow, and using easy basic easy to understand language. Well done. I’ve ordered mine on the basis of your review.
Thank you very much for the comprehensive review, Joe. One of the very best so far I have seen on TH-cam. Straightforward review without any bells and whistles. Excellent technical content. Thumbs up and subscribed. Best of luck Joe.
Brilliant review, to the point , most reviews talk a lot but dont give any useful information for ages, this guy told me what I wanted to know straight away. thanks!! love the accent by the way :)
Thanks Rob! Glad you found it helpful. I always look at reviews before buying anything and like you say half the time they just waffle on about irrelevant stuff lol
Well I've just bought this and put it together. Not familiar with such tools so most appreciate your review Joe. Also good to see your still happy four years on. Thanks for your no nonsense review, I feel much more comfortable using it now.
I had a couple of planer thicknesser machine in mind to purchase and I couldn’t make my mind up. After watching your reviews you made me buy the Titan one. Your video made it easier for me to set up and use. Brilliant bit of kit. Brilliant video thank you
This is the most helpful video . Thankyou. I couldn't workout the dust extractor but your video solved my problem straight away . Thank you so much please keep making the videos you are straight forward uncomplicated and VERY HELPFUL and interesting
I know i'm a bit late to the party but i was researching getting one of these and your video popped up. This was a great video, clear and concise. really well done! Thank you.
Thanx for your well presented review and thoughts on this machine. I have just bought one and your, and others, videos helped me tweak and set it up begore I even processed a single foot of timber through it. I think I have got it pretty well set up...level plates, lubed gears, bushes, chains and shafts. Removed annoying red cover button. Bypassed safety switch so no need for the extractor shuffle. Squared up fence. Checked blade leveling to feed plate. I also sorted the feeder tools by attaching 80 grit sand paper to them... to eliminate slipping. I have also made a roller device to hold down the out put timber side on the planer surface.
Thanks very much for this video. A friend and I couldn't work out how to fit the dust extraction unit and it was only by watching this video that we found out. Many thanks
Excellent no frill straight forward guide, you take your time and explain simply whats going on..well done Joe your a credit to you tube. You get my vote👏👏
Had one of these given to me few months back, brand new and never used. Couple thing to look out for when setting it up. 1. check the out feed on jointer with a straight edge against in feed with a spirit level. I found the out feed table was 1/4 inch lower at the end, resulting in a 3 foot 1 inch board have a curve in the centre. With no adjustment on the out feed bed I made a 1/4 inch wedge the width and length of the out feed tablet to compensate. Now its all square and flat. 2. The in and out feeds of the planer are too short resulting in a small step at the end of the board, again on a 3 foot by 1 length. Made two extensions two feel long one for each side drilled and bolted on. Works fine now. Joe mentioned the in feed table on the jointer had some play in it. The yellow locking nut has a washer fitted with a recess on one side and you assume the recess goes on the yellow side on the locking mechanism, in fact it faces the machine side locking the in feed steady. All in all not a bad machine, just mass produced and lacking in quality. But with a little time and effort you can get exultant results from it for the home DIY person
Well.. I have to say, that was one of the best and most simple yet comprehensive detailed and informative reviews I have seen. You did exactly what you had said on the Tin!...Well done, and no Fukin stupidly annoying Music. .Ten out of Ten... hope you get thousands of subscribers. I have subscribed and thumb's upped you, to help! Well done Mate.
Thank You Joe , an excellent no nonsense review. I have been looking to buy a planer, and if every one done reviews like this it would make life much easier, when your choosing one on a limited budget. Thanks again
Great video. very helpful as i'm looking to buy one of these. Its nice to see a well made review that is not drowned out with pointless music which nearly all the yanky ones are!
Thanks Joe ........... Good honest once more . This bit of kit looks like it will save us a lot of work ....... appreciate your time . Thanks again & all the best .
I have to say I’ve been thinking for a long time about purchasing one of these and after watching this review and how clearly you’ve explained things about it, I’m very strongly considering it. A super review and an excellent video joe. Now subscribing mate.
Hi Joe, I finally got this machine. Ordered it on the Sunday of the 2018 screwfix show (just before I found you and had a chat) and it was in my local branch on the Mondy night ready for collection. Wasn't able to play with it until yesterday and it's great. I used it to process a whole load of pallet wood. Early on, something nicked the blades so everything comes out with a tiny ridge. New blade or maybe take a file to the nick.... I got a metal detector, push blocks and an adapter and hoze set from rutlands and combined them with a cheapo cyclone and a 30litre food barrel from ebay to use with an old dyson that has been knocking around in the shed for years. Works perfectly. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Andy! Glad it got to you so quickly, screwfix has a great service like that! Shame about hitting a nail but the metal detector will definitely help with that in future. Re sharpening the blades will remove the the dent if its not too deep. If its a deep gauge then it might be better to get some new blades. Ive never sharpened mine since Ive had it so I dont know how easy the process is haha sounds like youve got a great setup now! I have a cyclone but I run everything off 1 extension lead in my shed so I dont run the planer and the vac at the same time haha its a waste really lol
This is the second time I watched this review. Excellent in depth review and I am convinced this is the one for me. I have bought titan before and not been let down. This review has confirmed my choice. Thank you.
Looking on eBay and the unsafe push blocks came to mind. Maybe attach some rubber feet bumpons ? Give extra grip and possibly be used then. 3m make them. A back up in an emergency ?
Thanks for this review matey. Great stuff. I had already bought it and was looking for some clear instruction on a couple of things. You hit all the right buttons for me and I am now happily planing away!
+Korehan Dora Thanks mate! I hope that I have improved a lot with my videos since this one lol I wish I could go back and improve the video quality but Im glad a lot of people find it helpful 😊
Thanks for the review Joe. I'm in the market for a planer/thicknesser and as I have other Titan products that have proven to be well made, dependable and at a price that doesn't break the bank, I checked out your review. I have decided that I will go with the Titan based on my past experience with the brand and your review. many thanks.
This is an awesome review and I’m grateful for the information and no-nonsense presentation. I subscribed to the channel immediately and look forward to seeing more.
Good review bud, i've had this machine for a couple of years now and I love it, I have a few Titan tools and swear by them. The 2 flat pushers, I bought a couple of sheets of self adhesive foam rubber, stuck that on the bottom of each pusher, no more slipping it worked a treat.

Joe I have spent 30 minutes trying to figure out the extractor setup. Of course the Oracle that is youtube has provided the answer. Great piece and made as simple as for us Average Joe's. Thank you from Tyneside.
Great review young man, it is an honest review which is what I appreciate. It shows a lot of stuff which is similar to other brands of planer/jointers which is what was after. Thanks for your views, they are appreciated.
@@AverageJoesJoinery I ended up buying a jointer/planer very similar to the one you reviewed. I bought the Ryobi JP 254 in the end, as it is all that was available in the closest large town.
Mine was delivered this morning from Screwfix - I only ordered it yesterday afternoon so well done them! Had a slight hitch when the planer infeed table wouldn't move - turned out that the small allen screw had been done up too tight so slackened it off a little and all's well. Tried it out on some sawn green oak and the finish is very good indeed! It is a noisy machine so ear defenders are a must. Thanks again Joe!
I have an Erbauer version of this and changing from thicknesser to planer is the same. When I use the planer I jam a piece of wood on the inner platform and raise it up under the switch. It means a lot less buggering about with bits of plastic.
A good, honest, straightforward review. Thank you for sharing your experience of this product. (Oh, and thank you for educating me on the workings of a planer/thicknesser!)
Thanks Joe, I was in the market for a planer/thickness and did have the Erbauer 1500-250mm-electric-planer-thicknesser-220-240v in my basket with Screwfix which is more expensive and your review saved me some money and stress.... and I’ve also reviewed the Erbauer as well and this planer has many issues with reliability so am going to take your advice and buy the Titan. keep up the honest reviews.
Thanks Roy. I havent got hands on experience with the Erbauer but from what Ive heard its very similar performance wise. I dont think you can go wrong for the money with the Titan
Hi Joe, I looked at the reviews for the Erbauer and there was many issues with drive belts snapping and the wheel that the belts fit around being not centred and not machined properly causing a wobble when in use..... from what I’ve seen I will be saying well away from the Erbauer... on this occasion more expensive does not mean more reliable.
An absolutely smashing review joe, thank you so very much. I'm so glad i search for this before purchasing one myself cause I didn't think Titan was such a good make after having had experience with some of their gardening tools. Now, thanks to your video, I shall confidently buy one myself and if necessary make some minor modifications if and where needed in order to speed up the swapping mode process. Thank you so much
