A beautiful song; I heard it during my recent visit to Phnom Penh. it's happy and sad at the same time... quite unique. I wish the Khmer nation fast development and strength to collectively fight corruption, which is a great hindrance for a nation's success. Only this way can Cambodia regain the splendor of the ancient Angkor empire, which is so proudly referenced in this song.
The most heartbreaking shot in the entire film is seeing those photographs of a mother and her child just scattered all over the floor, presumably the floor of the empty house they used to reside in before they were forcibly evacuated. After that... they just vanished, never to be seen again.
Great footage. What year is this from? My guess is 1979 when people were starting to return to an empty city? I find very little to no footage of the evacuation in 1975 or during the years 1976-78. Note the abandoned Texaco station.
This makes me wonder what happened when people were able to return to the empty city. All of the property that had been owned by people who had been killed - houses, apartments, stores - what happened to it? Did the government try to identify possible relatives who could claim it? Or did others just move in and keep it?
My dad told me that when you came back to Phnom Penh, you are free to own any property. You can just go in some random house and live in it and also call it yours.

I can truly feel the heartbreak every Cambodian would go through watching this. Truly a tragedy that could have been avoided.
If we hadn't faced that , we wouldn't fall this much
