      That is a topic to way later. Demons are not a part of biblical lore until way later. Actually in the old testament there is no actual demon, only angels, some sent to do good things by God, other sent to do evil things. Satan, one of God angels, is the one sent to prosecute sinners. In only in the New Testament where we see Satan as a antagonistic force that dont want humans to have salvation, thus he starts a rebellion with one third of heaven angels (the demons), that ends with him trying to take over the world to end Jesus words in tbe book of revelation, but is ultimately defeated.
      So Jake will explore this topic later because it makes sense for him to explore the other old testament stories first.

GabriEL, RaphaEL, AzazEL, AsriEL, etc. It’s like El is is a version or monicker of God, who sometimes goes by El or Elohim. This might be old news, but man it is a fun observation. The Genesis 6 passage is quite interesting
    For myself, listening to some scholars, teachers, and thinkers - I've come to the conclusion that the "sons of god" specifically in Genesis 6 refer to ancient kings and not fallen angels (only humans are punished (implies only human sin is in view), nephillim are called "men" not ... I dunno... "angel-men"?, kings in the ancient world were often called sons of gods)
    but I do understand the angel-human hybrid view, since it is popular and what I used to hold to.

    One little critism of this video is that refering to Gods sons as angels is only one interpretation other interpretations would refer the sons of God as the descendants of Seth and the woman as the descendants of Cain and when they married they formed unholy unions and historically this was the most popular view with it being supported by such figures as Martin Luther and John Calvin and another interpretation would be that the sons of man were referring to kings who decided to start practicing polygamy.

    So in Jewish tradition the word for angels מלאכים is broadly accepted to have 2 meanings. The first is the traditional angel and the meaning second is judge. So in the story after enoch (Hebrew-חנוך) it is not angles chasing after human women but a group of humans know as the judges.

      A lot of historians believes the story makes perfect sense with angels, not human mating with other humans (that would just produce more humans, why would that be a bad thing?). And books like Enoch and the book of Giants all have the angel part and they are the oldests interpretation of that part in genesis. Is only later in the christian era where both jews and christian start to intepreted the story as humans mating with humans, instead of angels doing that.

      Sounds more like a polytheistic religion that got smooshed into a monotheistic one so all the other gods got downgraded to either angels, demons or spirits
      Hell given certain definitions I don’t even think there should be a distinction between god, angel and demon especially since the traditional distinguishing trait was that angels didn’t have free will

      @Darkgun231 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@sonofcronos7831 I dunno, humans mating with humans could have been a bad thing in certain circumstances. Adultery, for one, tends to be a big no-no in parts of the Abrahamic stuff. And Judaism does hold to strict matrilineal traditions, so it's not impossible these 'Judges' could have been humans but from a different tribe, one that was hostile to the Hebrews and kidnapped their women (as was wont to happen back then). Perhaps God then punished these 200 Judges by cursing the offspring born of this union, thus the Nephilim.
      Possibly, the tales about the whole situation just got lost over time, hence why we don't know the full backstory anymore.

    The first time I heard of the nephilim was playing an old RPG called Exile, later and more famously remade as Avernum. It was hard to tell what they were supposed to be from the tiny sprites but I thought they were tall, thin, gray cat people! Though from what I can remember, they also resembled Saturn (the god, not the planet) as portrayed in the painting of him devouring his children...

    So... For a reason or two I wanted to make a video/write a piece about Enoch and the legends that he became the angel Metatron. I'm kind of too lazy to actually do the proper research and can only speak from personal knowledge of the Talmud and Jewish Midrash. So anyway, it'd be great if you'd make a video about it - I can probably bring a point of reference or two. Either that or I'll actually put in the work and do it myself. I should probably do the latter.

    Thanks for doing this video dude. I've always been curious over the Book of Enoch since, y'know, Catholics don't recognize this book as canon, but the idea of a man, through enlightenment, becomes an Archangel with a name sounded very appealing. Plus, the idea that the Watchers are angels that sinned makes the angels that don't sin look more respectable because they resist those temptations and overcome them of their volition every moment of their existence; kind of like what the Fall of Lucifer does for the loyal children of God like Michael and Gabriel. Makes them look respectable in their self-restraint.
    Plus, that art for Angelarium. It's like Eldritch Horror flipped on its side into some sort of Cosmic Beauty. I can't stress how much I love that art.

      @videogollumer 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Believe me, Angelarium is far from the first one to do that. Bayonetta's done it, several Final Fantasy games have done it, and it's been done a number of times in D&D and Magic: the Gathering.

      @videogollumer While I thank you for the examples as to which I may check out later (except Bayonetta, I'm already a fan) but the Book of Enoch held more interest with it being supposedly a part of the religion I practice and how it gets me to think deeply. Why does Enoch look so grizzled? People then could live to be in the 900s, but Enoch was taken up to Heaven by God at the relatively young age of 365. I feel he would have looked younger than what is shown.

    In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day saints we believe Enoch was a dispensation head after the decendents of Adam fell away from God. Enoch tauht repentance like Noah but instead of everyone ignoring him the people repented and their entire city (Zion) was brought up to be with God.

He's also the only named Watcher not explicitly mentioned in the whole angels sleeping with humans thing in any version of Enoch, and is only first mentioned -and in many versions explicitly mentioned first- when the watchers start teaching humans things
