I don’t know if you ever look at the comments anymore but this is so awesome I am making some of these for my daughter-in-law’s for Christmas! Thank you so much for taking the time to show us how to do this
Great little homemade gift, easy to make. And props to the instructor, very clear, succinct, got to the point. I made one change, for the pocket I sewed it right sides together and turned it wrong side in, pressed and sewed to the panel. No need to worry about the inside seem being upside down and catching the seam when inserting.
8/26/22: I've seen quite a few tutorials on this project, but this is by far the best; very simple, explained well and there's no way I can miss. Thank you, Vanessa.
Thank you for your precise instructions. To make it even easier, for the pocket I didn't seam it or pre-sew it. I just folded it in half and placed the raw edges along with the bottom raw edges and sandwiched it between the top piece and the bottom quilted piece and sewed everything together at once, along with the ribbon, which I made out of the contrasting pocket material. Also, I made it taller so I could fold down the top flap covering the brushes before rolling it.
I love the way you explain it! So clear! Especially saying "the pretty side" versus "right side", which, even though I know what it means, takes a few seconds to actually mentally process what that means
i just finished making one of these. a tip* when you are done doing the big poket make sure that u start making the pocket openings for your paintbrushes first! 2:48 because if u dont and do the step at last like she did, the stitching fron the paintbrush pokets will show on the outside.... great video i loved it you inspired me
Yea! I made one for a crochet co-worker of mine an she love this cute little gift. Know I'm making my grandma and I one using some very pretty fabrics... Thanks Vanessa :)
I love the way you talked about the processes and the visuals were great. the tips and reminders were timely to the process as well. This is not for someone who is unfamiliar with a sewing machine but it is a perfect learning project after someone has played with the basics of a machine. this was one splendid tutorial. Thank you. ; )
Thanks! Packing for holiday and thought I needed one. Was about to buy it but thanks to this found some random fabric offcuts, used stiffer interfacing as no fleece to hand and whipped up a stylish black brush holder in an hour. £15 +p&p saved as I was about to press buy xx
Crafty Gemini, I made this today and followed your directions exactly-mine came out perfect! Thank you. Also, watch your channel and still love my slouchy crochet hat! 💃🏻
My daughter and I have made so many of these as gifts and have been asked by friends and family to make them one too. Love making them. Easy to follow tutorial. We make ties using the same fabric and prefer this option to the ribbon but that's just our opinion! :-).
Thanks! Glad to help. You can do everything exactly the same... just adjust it for the size of the crochet hook when you get ready to sew the slots down. Put the crochet hook in place, leaving a little room on each side and then gauge how much you need to leave for each pocket. Hope that helps!
I'm making my 6th one of these today! I gave them as gifts, now everyone wants them! I found cheap makeup brushes at the dollar store (for a dollar each) and put four different ones in each, so when giving them they get full effect. Hope your getting rest and feeling better!
Really great tutorial! I liked that you mentioned ironing between a few of the steps. When I first began sewing my projects would come out all lumpy and.. just terrible. I later realized it was mostly because I did not iron during the process. So again great work!
I love this and have made it many times, I wondered if you have printable instructions as I don't always have wifi/computer access and sometimes want a reminder if I havn't made it for a while. Thanks for the youtube instructions so easy to follow and successful every time I have made it
Loved this! The only thing I changed was sewing in the lines for the brushes b4 sewing up the outside piece and then sewing some strategic tacks to reinforce & strengthen outside to inside pieces. I used contrasting thread and didnt hv thread to match outside piece well to quilted stitches and color of fabric.
You do such wonderful tutorials. I don't know a hoot about sewing but I love watching your tutorials and look forward to learning how to make new things. Thank you for sharing - have a super weekend! :)
I just followed today, cause I've watched some videos and noticed that I LOVE EACH AND EVERYONE OF THEM lol but thanks so much , ill make this for my sister :D
Your tutorial is so well done, I can’t believe how well you put this all together! Thank you so much! One question: is there a purpose to the pocket seam being out instead of sewing the pocket fabric wrong sides together, then turning it right side out? Does the little flap keep the brushes in the holders? Thank you again, so much! Brilliant tutorial! 😀🙏🏻💕
Thanks! I did the stitching last on purpose so it would add more body to the pockets otherwise the weight of the brushes will make the pocket part lift away from the backing... but either way will work.. just a matter of preference.
Really easy to follow thank you :) I'm mmaking one to store knitting needles in, because to buy the storage rolls is so expensive-chuffed I found this :)
Loved this tutorial, very well explained :) I am using a fabric with big pattern and I wouldn.t like the vertical stiches of the little pockets to show on the outside of the brush holder. Is there any alternative ?
@mimanda haha.. yea, I started referring to them as the "pretty" side and "ugly" side a few years back when I realized my students learned a lot easier that way. It just makes more sense to speak plainly. Glad you enjoyed the tute. :o)

Virginia O'Malley I also did the slots before I attached my back piece so my stitching wouldn't go all the way through.
Not only are you a gifted teacher, but your tutorials don't bring on motion sickness like so many I've seen. Love it!!
Yay a tutorial for a knitting needle carrier, this will come in handy when I finally get my sewing machine fixed.
Clear, concise, interesting. Finally a hint of the old Threadbanger quality. Can't wait to see more!
I love the way you explain it! So clear! Especially saying "the pretty side" versus "right side", which, even though I know what it means, takes a few seconds to actually mentally process what that means

Really great tutorial! I liked that you mentioned ironing between a few of the steps. When I first began sewing my projects would come out all lumpy and.. just terrible. I later realized it was mostly because I did not iron during the process. So again great work!
