@2:49 is a good way to present the APS-C mode, by keeping the full frame mode versions displayed as well. Without them to compare I thought maybe you took the photo hand held and it got angled when changed to the Viltrox. But no, it looks like a distortion that the 7Artisans avoids. I have the 7Artisans for two months now. I am new to f1.8 and a fixed focal length so I am still experimenting. Lens motor noise - I cannot use the 7Artisans for video unless I use off camera microphones. Even a small shotgun microphone - Comica VM30 - picks up the motor noise when on the camera hot shoe (Sony a7III). In camera microphone picks up even more noise. It's an unpleasant noise too, like grinding, not just a motor hum. The lens seems to hunt for focus going beyond and then back too short before getting stable. Maybe it's the autofocus modes I used. Definitely different behaviour than my Sony kit lens 28-70 or my two Tamron lenses: 17-28mm and 70-300mm. Subscribed!
Thanks for sharing! I guess it’s pretty common for newer lens brands to have loud autofocus noise. I don’t use an external mic, so the noise can be pretty annoying for video recording. But for the price, I think I can deal with it.
On top of being brighter, faster AF, cheaper, lighter, smaller, having smoother bokeh, lower chromatic aberration and more lens functions, I just think the colour out of that 7Artisans lens is much nicer than the Viltrox.
The AF is not faster on 7artisans. Video AF is more instant, but that's not a plus. You can set the video AF speed in camera body and gradual setting is better for the quality of the footage.
Great comparison video, I have been looking at the 7 artisan but i wished the aperture ring had clicks. How does the ring feel? Stiff enough to not easily bump it accidentally?
Yes you point out a thing that bothers me a little. I always turn it to Auto so that I can control the aperture on my camera, but sometimes it will accidentally slide to f16.
7Artisans really improved from their 50mm f1.8 from what I saw in this video. Two question though: is the AF-MF switch still easy to nudge by accident, and is the aperture ring still difficult to turn? because those are my biggest gripe with the 7Artisans 50mm f1.8.
Bokeh at the corner of Viltrox more rounded, 7artisans is cat eye. 7artisans is more sharpeness than Viltrox. But in my country, Viltrox is cheaper than 7artisans =))
@@river199x yes the corner bokeh is also an important factor. If you are considering buying one of these, you can also wait for the TTartisan 75mm f2 af lens, it’s about to be released soon
Thank you very much for this great comparison review. One aspect I'm quite interested in is Coma. Would you be able to tell me which of these lenses performs better in this aspect?
The results are surprising. Abott did the same comparison, but his copy of 7artisans was sharper than Viltrox and didn't have the issue with brightness.
@@ConstantineSPhotography Generally sample variation is known even among the flagship models. For example between the 50mm 1.2 models, Lenstip measured Sony to be the sharpest, while Digital Picture had a better copy of Sigma. It seems like this is more of a problem for cheaper ones. I know that at least Viltrox is optically f/1.6 but they calibrate it to be 1.8. Maybe they mess up the calibration. There was a hack for the first version that recalibrated it. Not sure if mark II has it.
Lat year I got the Zeiss Batis Sonnar 85mm 1.8 T* used for US $550 (taxes included) in excellent condition, it is a very good Lens and nice to handle, I would not get some Chinese lenses, when you can get excellent used Lenses.
1. You can't always find the lens you want second handed. 2. Even if you do, sometimes they're sometimes still out of the budget range. 3. Even if you find a second hand lens that is in your budget range, their condition might be less than desirable. 4. Chinese lenses are steadily increasing in quality nowadays. I've shot with the viltrox and I think it's a better lens than the sony 85FE save for the autofocus performance.
Thank you for helping us choose.
