Like the first light of twilight, this music opens your eyes to old promises and to all the anomalies of nature. Evocative of powers beyond observation, these pieces pull the strings of the heart, attract
nostalgia and awaken regrets, flayed lives and the torpor of tormented watchers !

I have every piece of music that John Field ever wrote and this happens to be one of my favourites

"None have quite attained to these vague eolian harmonies, these half-formed sighs floating through the air, softly lamenting and dissolved in delicious melancholy. Nobody has even attempted this peculiar style, and especially none of those who heard Field play himself, or rather who heard him dream his music in moments when he entirely abandoned himself to his inspiration." ----- Franz Liszt's preface to his edition of Field's nocturnes, 1859

I don't understand French but his music was neglected in the 20th century. I can't believe that the pianist didn't know him especially because his teacher was Clemente This century yes

The silences and repetitions of Field s music, similar to mozart ones but with a more romantic skin, are extremly beautiful and unic.

awsome! what a great entrance the piano/pianist make. I wonder why Feild is one of the lesser known greats? its our duty as the ones with the knowledge to pas it on!

I dearly love this concerto, and this is a magnificent performance. Field may not be formally altogether tidy, but he keeps going and going with entertaining and unpredictable material, wonderful melodies and lush early romantic harmonies. I hope this concerto gets more publicity, it is worthy of the mainstream concerto repertoire, perhaps more than any of his other concertos though no. 2 is a sparkling gem. I like Hummel as well, but I find that Field has more humor and sparkle.

I couldn´t have described it better. I love those sometimes quirky sometimes dramatic or humorous dancelike contrasts. How they develop and finally sprightly bloom into something new. Very colourfull. Beautiful concerto

Many composers including Chopin, Brahms, Schumann, and Liszt learned from John Field. Yet, some parts of his music largely resemble Beethoven and have similar style and elegance.

Michal Kuric John Field was born decades before Chopin. May be it 's' the other way round that Chopin is 70% John Field.

Maybe 75% ! John Field noctunes were great influence on the young Chopin.

Great influence? Field "invented" the nocturnes and Chopin refinded them. In my opinion Chopin ist a true Field scholar. - Btw., I love Field's vast musical ideas!

I DO NOT KNOW HOW YOU CAN CAMPARE CHOPIN WITH FIELD ...THEIR MUSIC ARE SO DIFFERENT IN STYLE IN IN ORIGINALITY....THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL CONCERT BUT CHOPIN IS PARTICULAR....

Giovanni Bonanni Are you deaf? Listen to his nocturnes. Chopin basically imported his musical language from John Field. There's nothing wrong with that though, all musicians are inspired.

No one's undermining Chopin. Saying that Chopin was inspired by other musicians isn't me undermining him, it's me highlighting a fact. Stop projecting.

There is no doubt that Chopin was the superior composer. But does that mean that Field should be neglected, not recognized both for his undoubted influence on Chopin, not appreciated and listened to, for his own qualities which influenced Chopin (as well as others) and which have not only their own intrinsic value but also historical value as well?

It would be more accurate to say that Field's is a style that Chopin learned from. Field came before Chopin and invented this style of music.

    • @milton3204
      @milton3204 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

You're kidding right? Chopin ADMIRED Field. It is Chopin who learned from Field, not the other away around!

+Noah R. I enjoy Clementi's music more then Chopin's. Just a matter of personal taste.
