  • SCCNSW member Scott had some issues with his Champion's engine, and needed to give it some attention. While he was at it, he dressed it up a bit, and gave it a little bit more performance in 2011.

What a great job on the little Champion engine! The car itself is also beautiful.

I have watched this several times...I am familiar with the sound of the little flathead and as soon as it turned over "I knew"...wonderful job...love it.

A wonderful Champion, it's a beautiful engine and I love the headers and dual exhausts.

I'll have to share this with my Father in law, he's in his 80's now - but before he became an automotive / mechanical engineer,
as a teenager he worked at a Studebaker dealership, and had his own (I can't remember which year or model) souped-up Studebaker 6.

good for you, your keeping it all original.. too many guys here in the states would just throw a new v6 or 8 in a old classic car

I used to live in South Bend where the Studebaker's were made in America.

Thanks for your kind words. We have passed your comments on to the owner, Scott.
The head was a donation from a club member, and the headers were fabricated out of steam pipe fittings.
There was a bit of money spent on it for parts and reconditioning of the head, but Scott did all of the labour himself, so was able to achieve a great result for reasonable $s.

Love these Studebakers’ ; in fact I loved all of’em: wish they would make a comeback without looking like a Toyota, Honda, Cadillac, Chevy and so on. Today I can’t tell one from the other and forget knowing the year of the cars now-a-days. It’s like lookin’ at a flock of sheep. Bland. White. The same.

That sounds fantastic. I'm thinking about a hawk that has the six in it, and this makes me wonder about a v8 swap. As nice as this is I bet it cost you a ton to do.
