    I think that children grew up better in the past. I grew up in the 80s, was in nature a lot, climbed trees and built simple huts out of wood without my parents controlling me much. I think this is healthy for the own development. Today, children are over-controlled and over-protected, especially in the U.S., and they spend too much time indoors, which is poison for their personal development and mental health

      US is very suburbanized, its intentionally spread out like England. Be in your own bubble,comfort, safety car ; drive to work and come home and then to shop. A lot of Puritans founded America, so theres that .. The only places that are not like that in the US are the cities that were founded by Mexicans & Spanish like Los Angeles, San Francisco, Colorado, San Antonio, New Mexico their infastructure was founded inspired by Spain and Colonial Mexicos design.. which is why California and Texas , New Mexico and Colorado are so expensive, americans want to live in those regions because they feel so human. A lot of californians are being priced out,
      rather than move to the Midwest and East Coast where its cheap, they are moving to Mexico and Spain(EU) because the planning in Mexico is more designed for community/neighboruly intentions not for stranger danger commute to work to avoid strangers and go home to a boring surban place.
      Which is why the Prince of England moved to my hometown of Santa Barbara CA, much of our city was founded before the US and everything is geared towards nature and healthy living.
      When I moved to Dallas i saw firsthand suburbanization, nice at first because of the peace, but it gets boring quick. Its also the weather too.

      @carn1fex_ ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Guess thats just a problem in the USA and the parents fault - Not the Kids.🙄
      It's you, the parent, who give the kids a Smartphone, Laptop, PC, Console or whatever.
      Here, in germany - almost everywhere you just have a small walk or drive and you are 'in nature' so many kids spend their time outside or grow up with 'nature all around them'.
      Its typical for german schools (like 1st-4th class) and kindergarten to learn about nature and spend a lot of time outside.
      I was born in 88 - Spend my time outside but also fell in love with PC's and gaming. 🤷‍♂️
      Nothing wrong with that - if you control you kids or don't - thats your fault.
      Watch what they are doing online, don't let them spend to much time online, go outside WITH them and let kids be kids.
      I heard storys and read many comments of americans FREAKING OUT that german parents (or i guess europe in general) let there kids at the age of 6-8 go all alone to school, or the playground, sports ground
      and so on.
      If you don't have access to a forest or no 'nature' around - you have to get in a car and drive - be active with your kids.

    Total nostalgia is a wonderful thing! You are as about as real and genuine as they come. I love Deutschland, and lived in Panzer Kaserne from 79-81, and Baumholder from 88-90. My most prominent memories as a child are from Germany. I'm second generation from my migration on Father's side, Bavarian area, last name is German, and my grandmother barely spoke English. While in Baumholder, and the area, I personally found Nazi money, Mercedes Benz from WW2 Stuck in the ground with trees grown through them died, huge living trees grown up, and no trails or markers anywhere around. In that location outside of town I found a piece of Nazi helmet and a full pistol stuck mostly in the ground that was just metal full of mud and worms.

    Hey Michael. I never commented on your videos. They are all precious to watch, but this time like to make a comment on this one because it touched my heart and soul.
    Some teachers effectuate or discourage their negativity at the early stage of their students developments but they really don't mean it.
    It all connects to HOME with your parents and your environments you grew up with.
    I will never forget this day, I was in 5th grade, my science teacher told a few of the students "you are slow", she didn't mean slow like Brain Deficiency slow, she just wanted to make her point that we were behind and she was helpless to do something about us.
    To make the story short, after 35 years my best friend and I from the same class walked down the street we recognized our 5th grade science teacher, we approached and introduced ourselves, we greeted each other and we remembered her of those dark memories, she was completely in denial, which was very disappointed and heart wrenching for us. We told her we are both computer program engineers and we are happily married with lots of children, and she said she was married to one of our teachers...who would have thought they had an eye for each other for all these mysterious years?!

Loud enough that the small town I grew up in probably heard her. Things have changed, the school had been been added on to and the house I grew up in has been painted many different colors since we moved away. My friends and I when all over town in the summer and only returned home later in the day. No one worried about us, and everyplace was so safe for children to explore and play and ride our bikes. We had cable TV, but only had about 14 channels, mostly just TV stations in the area.

    This video tops all your videos....I wish I had just a photograph of my school days from the 1940's through the 1950's. My high school was in a 15 story building and I took the elevator to class every day and got to know the elevator lady. Then 40 years later I decided to visit the building which was scheduled to be torn down and encountered the same elevator operator of my childhood and she let me see my old class room....the building was demolished shortly after my visit. I wish I had a camera back then as I have no photos of those years. I loved the tour of your school buildings and all your photographs that you have of when you were a young kid. Thanks G.I.V. (Walt in Miami)

      A high school on the 15th floor, wow,I don't think we have schools that high up here in Germany

      I have photos of my old schools but the buildings were all demolished to make place for new developments so there's no point in going back and reminiscing. Standing in a shopping mall where my old school used to be is not the same.

      They must have had an old elevator because self use elevators (with buttons) were in use by the 1940s. Today elevator operators are only found in some old luxury hotels and apartment buildings.

      @waltman333 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Ozymandias1 The building was constructed in the late 20's or in the 30's and it was a trade high school. Trade school was up to the 10th floor and the floors above was a hotel. Walt

      My parents were born and raised in Germany. I went back to Germany with them when I was 6 and 10 yrs old and then went back 45 years after that to see my aunts and cousins that live there. I was born and raised in the USA. Germans are just like people anywhere else, some good, some bad, not all are chill. In fact, my cousin's wife is a psycho and treated me like crap for 2 weeks. I was literally afraid of her and couldn't say anything to anyone about it. She freaked out on me one day because I forgot to put on my 'outside' shoes and wore my slippers outside and stepped inside the house 1 foot with them on. She acted as if I committed an atrocity. She also screamed at my cousin every night about various things, literally screamed at the top of her lungs...no trying to hide it from me or the neighbors. I wanted to run from that place but I was stuck there for 2 weeks. I told my husband I feared for my life...she was nuts! I was never treated so badly by anyone (even strangers) in my entire life. My cousin just said she didn't mean it. I will never stay with them again! Most Germans aren't like that, but they aren't all 'chill'...in fact most are pretty much not that chill. Kind of uptight and many know it all types. I am German...I can admit that. I have known quite a few in my life. They are just as messed up as anywhere else, just more organized and neat about things.

    Very interesting. Loved it. The people today don't have freedom in their hearts. They love control. Thanks for sharing and letting us reminisce about the 70's and 80's. When kids could still be kids and adults loved kids and neighbours were real neighbours.

And the flats where you lived, so clean and smart, very very impressed…In the first photo it shows you on your first day at school holding the cone filled with sweets and my students told me about this tradition I would love you and your mum to show us how these are filled it’s something so unique to Germany and such a lovely tradition. thank you once again for the video 😊🇬🇧🇬🇧. 🇩🇪

    Don't regret not coming here for school. That place is beautiful!! My daughters best friend came here in his freshman year, his family goes back all the time, they're Ludwig decendants. I'm soooo happy he came, I couldn't have done her high schooling without him, but schools here aren't that great and were in one of the top in the Nation, in Camas Washington. Your here now and doing an absolutely awsome job!!!❤❤❤❤❤
