  • Today the channel has hit over 100 subscribers! Thank you to those who have tuned in so far to watch uploads from my VHS collection, and in honor I present to you my biggest find yet!
Complete 6pm newscast from WFTV (channel 9) in Orlando, Florida, the ABC affiliate for the market. The newscast followed ABC Sports coverage of the Purolator 500 in Atlanta, and another event in Daytona (the people I received this from were huge racing fans and lived on the outskirts of Orlando).
WFTV was and is, as the slogan puts it, "Central Florida's News Leader." They've led the market ratings over their competition for years, even boasting as ABC's highest-rated affiliate in the Southeast. I can agree on that statement; they keep a professional identity reporting the news and Cox has done a great job investing in the station like they always do. My only complaint was they used these graphics way past their bedtime - they were used as early as February 1992 and lasted until late 1996.
Todd Ulrich and Vanessa Echols anchor the news, with Larry Handley doing weather and Greg Warmoth with "Highlight Zone" sports. This was Handley's first day at the station (probably why there's no talent bump, he was added in later). Greg Warmoth is the current lead anchor at the station, having switched from sports to news, and he's done a great job taking the reigns from longtime anchor Bob Opsahl (who appears briefly in the video during the St. Patrick's Day parade segment). Includes reports from Mike Machak, Steve Triggs and Charles Jones.
News theme is News Series 2000 by Gari Media Group, and Charlie Van Dyke is voiceover. The graphics are a Television by Design job, and despite my "dated" quip it made sense they lasted that long since WFTV was the news leader. Plus, TVBD kicked ass with news graphics. Only them could add purple into news graphics and make it work!

The only ABC station that used the lower third font that was found on CBS stations…

TVBD no longer exists as a company; it was folded in 2013 (but not because of bankruptcy).
