    It was a real pleasure to meet you Paul and what an amazing night we had. Thank you so much for showing me my first meteor shower, I am now hungry for more. It was so nice to sit under the stars (once those clouds shifted) and enjoy the spectacle, really was a special night. Hope to do it again soon. Clear skies.

    Great video and great results.
    Back in the late 80's some friends and I camped out on the beach to do some fishing. Didn't catch a single thing but didn't really matter because it was a clear night, and it was an excuse to kick back and chat about life the universe and everything and contemplate why the water temperatures were so warm. Can't beat a night sky to put everything into perspective.

      Thank you, Andrew.
      100%. Sounds like quite a night! There were a few people fishing further down the beach - I imagine it's a great way to blow the cobwebs away.

    Very enjoyable vid! Showing off the outdoor kit. Dew heaters 😂 Had 2 hours on following evening. Plenty of bloaty stars on my timelapse :) also a train and a dozen Geminids. Great to just look up :)

      Thanks, Paul. Glad you managed a couple of hours. Weather promised a lot but delivered very little this year!

    Wow, you got so many! Wonderful! Totally different night compared to ours only an hour away 😅

      Thanks Jeroen. So sorry you guys had a busy, especially after all the Herculean effort. Would have been awesome to have met up with you. Next time.

    I'm pleased you got some great meteor shots Paul. There were so many at your vantage point. It was clouded out here only small gaps. Saw a couple of them, I was trying to image with Orion on the right facing south, not many at all. Seems facing north west would of been better but clouded out mostly. Maybe next year. Merry Christmas

      Thanks Lee. Hopefully even those couple you saw were enough to impress! Merry Christmas to you too. 😊

    What a great night Paul, you really captured what it is all about - sitting out under the stars with a few friends, new and old, capturing and enjoying the night sky. This was my first meteor shower too, as I've always been a bit ambivalent about them in the past but now a convert. My vid is still a week or 2 away 😊

      Thanks for your kind comment, Greg. Really glad you enjoyed the shower - few are as good as the Geminids on a moonless night, but they’re fun to watch regardless! Look forward to your video when you get the time. Merry Christmas. 😊

    Looks a great night time spot - pretty sure the little red boat is the same one I've shot during daylight hours! Think it stayed cloudy over my way so no meteors for me (I only poked my head out a couple of times though)

    • @nightscapejournals
      @nightscapejournals  ปีที่แล้ว

      I suspect those boats get quite a bit of attention! The night was mostly cloud with some clear spells; I know someone who got the ferry from Holland to Harwich and drove to Happisburgh hoping for clear skies but was completely clouded out 🤦‍♂️.

      @@nightscapejournals made the trip just for the meteors? That's some dedication, shame it didn't work out :(

      @@JamesBillingsPhotography yep, just for the meteors! I felt terrible for him. Dedication though. I definitely respect that.

    Being all fancy schmancy with cooking options on site... 😉 Wow, you really caught a lot of them on film! I actually managed to catch a meteor on video a few weeks ago, but it was out of focus since I was filming fog over a lake... clearly I need to work on my priorities 😂

    • @nightscapejournals
      @nightscapejournals  ปีที่แล้ว

      My wife’s comment was “I make less fuss cooking a roast dinner”!
      You’ll have noticed quite a few of those were also out of focus, as I was jumping between filming different things and forgot to refocus for the sky 🙄.
      Really appreciated a hot cup of tea that night though! 🥶

      @@nightscapejournals what are you filming with by the way?

    • @nightscapejournals
      @nightscapejournals  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MartinFransson I use a first-generation Sony A7S with a Samyang 24mm f/1.4 manual lens. I’d love a newer version one day, but with a bit of denoise in post it’s passable for YT videos. 😊

    By the way, is your 6D astro modded? Looks like you caught a lot of HA in that Orion shot.

    • @nightscapejournals
      @nightscapejournals  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it is. I’ve one that’s modified and one is stock. I was pleased with what it picked up even through stacked static shots.

    Great video about your experience of the Geminids meteor shower. You captured some lovely meteors. I use the Samyang 16mm f/2.0 lens and find it very good for capturing meteors, although the stars are a little soft with it. I also use the Canon 24mm lens and find it very resilient to dewing up too. I missed the majority of the Geminids peak this year from North Yorkshire due to cloud. I did have a much better experience in 2022 and captured quite a few meteors. Here's a video showing some of the best ones: th-cam.com/video/Yoju4T6vBxw/w-d-xo.html

      Thanks Steve - really appreciated. As it happens I consider you to be one of the dons of meteor watching! I used to use that 16mm Samyang lens when I had my 1000D and 450D crop sensor cameras - it my first "proper" lens and delivered the goods!
