    Great video. Why don’t these website builders just add an option on the sales report tax to filter tax report by state and date? just automatically filter the report by each state with the date, and have the option to click on each states tax report. Would make life so much easier for businesses. It doesn’t have to be this hard for us. :-)

      That would certainly make it easier. We're hoping the process becomes more streamlined soon, too. The pivot table does help in the meantime, though.

    • @LedgerGurus

      You only need to charge sales tax for orders going to NY customers. If you don't have nexus (physical or economic) in other states, you don't need to charge tax on products shipped to other states.

    since the date of this video, the reports on shopify don't seem to match what you're showing (maybe they do, i'm in a confusion spiral). i have a stupid question...i run the shopify sales report and add the shipping region. on the top, i get gross sales, discounts, returns, net sales, shipping, and taxes. i'm confused when the sales tax agencies ask for "gross sales" when I think you mentioned in this case, I'd want to use "net sales" (before taxes of course) (to omit pending orders, returns, etc.).

    • @LedgerGurus

      If you have your EIN, there's usually a way to register with NY and collect and pay sales tax to NY. You might need to obtain an ITIN or contact the state and let them know that you don't have an SSN or ITIN and see if there's an alternative way to register for an account.

    I live in California and have a Shopify site.. When do I have to worry about signing up for Sales Tax? This is so much.

    • @LedgerGurus
      @LedgerGurus  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The first place you have to think about sales tax is in your home state. Because you have a physical presence, you are already responsible for collecting and remitting sales tax there. Unless you have inventory stored in other states or have a lot of sales in other states, you may not have to worry about sales tax elsewhere yet. A good place to start to learn how to do all this is to download our free PDF "10 Steps to Ensure Sales Tax Doesn't Burn Down Your eCommerce Business." It will give you a solid plan to follow in how to do this. You can find that here - ledgergurus.com/resources/downloads-2/10-steps-to-ensure-sales-tax-doesnt-burn-down-your-ecommerce-business/. We have lots of other resources to help you, too, but this is a good place to start.

    Hi super helpful video! Im stuck on the calculated order formula as everytime i punch in the formula and go to enter it comes up as #VALUE! Instead of 1 like in the video. When I go to drag down it just gives me an error for the formula code not allowing all the data to transfer to those columns. Not sure if its an update in excel but its for my quarterly returns for 2021.
