Great video. Why don’t these website builders just add an option on the sales report tax to filter tax report by state and date? just automatically filter the report by each state with the date, and have the option to click on each states tax report. Would make life so much easier for businesses. It doesn’t have to be this hard for us. :-)

For example if I live in New York, am I only need to turn on new your NY sales tax, do I only need to file NY sales tax? Although my goods sell to different states and countries?
You only need to charge sales tax for orders going to NY customers. If you don't have nexus (physical or economic) in other states, you don't need to charge tax on products shipped to other states.
@@LedgerGurus ....in a perfect world it would. I can appreciate this is easy for you. But the sheer volume of data to try to keep up with if you actually get a bunch of sales all over the county could be daunting to the uninitiated. Cudo's to you for sorting out all this mess!

Great video! One question, when filling out the sales tax report online, how do we find the "City" codes? For example, County = Almeda County, City = Almeda 967 , Almeda 928, Almeda 648? (many options to choose from in the drop down menu)
States assign filing frequency based on sales tax liability. The frequency is usually on documents sent after registration, sometimes it’s on your license. If you have an online state portal, you can check what periods are available to file. You can also call the state.
Thanks for the awesome explanation, when you clicked on the returns report from the finance summary, does this include only shopify payment returns? Do you think Paypal returns/refunds are also synced to Finance summary returns report as well? or this return report on Finance summary is an estimate only, because as you see no order number or payment method there, just date wise report. thanks again

Hello, i have LLC and EIN and warehouses in new york , but i am in turkey , and want to set up my sales tax on shopify , then when shooify will collect sales taxes , i will get money and how can i return it every state , i watched video about it i must regitwr web site and pay there , but i dont have usa phone number there also international phone number , can i pay return taxes only with EIN number ?? And can u help to me ?
If you have your EIN, there's usually a way to register with NY and collect and pay sales tax to NY. You might need to obtain an ITIN or contact the state and let them know that you don't have an SSN or ITIN and see if there's an alternative way to register for an account.
I notice that you said to unselect "1 1900" because they are repeated orders. My CPA actually adds that into my report and I do not understand why. What exactly are the "1 1900" orders? I am a bit confused there. Thank you so much

The first place you have to think about sales tax is in your home state. Because you have a physical presence, you are already responsible for collecting and remitting sales tax there. Unless you have inventory stored in other states or have a lot of sales in other states, you may not have to worry about sales tax elsewhere yet. It will give you a solid plan to follow in how to do this. You can find that here - ledgergurus.com/resources/downloads-2/10-steps-to-ensure-sales-tax-doesnt-burn-down-your-ecommerce-business/. We have lots of other resources to help you, too, but this is a good place to start.
The problem I'm having is finding a report in Shopify that gives me all the information I need to complete CA Schedule A and Schedule B. The Shopify Tax Reports don't give you the amount of the sale, and the Orders report doesn't let you filter by Sales Channel to eliminate Facebook/Instagram orders for which tax has already been filed by the sales channel. Help?
I watched another view that you did and I thought you said that Shopifty used Avalaru to handle the sales tax for each state and than filed and remitted the payments to the appropriate states. I'm confused
I thought Shopify does collect and remit the taxes to the proper states? Also, can you do a video on just Illinois sales tax? Apparently I live in the most complicated sales tax state
No, Shopify will only collect sales tax if you tell it to and it does NOT remit. That's your job. We are launching a course very soon on how to do sales tax in all the states, and we will be including Illinois. If you'd like more info, please click here - ledgergurus.com/resources/sales-tax-course-updates/
