  • This was a 17 mile round trip day hike up the Carbon River Valley to the terminus of the Carbon Glacier on a very hot day in mid-May. Mt. Rainier's Carbon Glacier, which is a large cirque and valley glacier coming off its north face, terminates at around 4,000 ft these days. At one time it had the prestige of terminating at the lowest elevation than any other glacier in the lower 48 states. Don't know if this is still true after it has receded up its valley quit a bit over the last decade that Sarah and I have been hiking to its overlook. On this trip I only film the 3.5 mile stretch between Ipsut Creek campground and the glacier. If you would like to see the rest of this hike, check the video I made back in February for the Carbon River Rainforest and Ipsut Creek Campground in winter conditions. Enjoy.

Looks like a great day hike! I like what you said about use of the trekking pole. I can relate. Stay safe.

Thank You tomlackey22. Yes the trekking pole really helped me on this walk and I also think it helped go a little faster down the way. Sometimes you just need a third or a fourth leg. I need to get a second pole for a sense of equilibrium. Just got to be careful to not snap one on a descent, could be bad. Stay Safe and happy trails.

Thank You. It is all just practice. Making videos is actually a newer thing for me but I have always loved photography. Learning videography is just a different way to share the outdoors.

It is a long hike but worth it. Hope you get your chance to cross the Carbon River "Indiana Jones" bridge.

excellent video man, hope your back feels better. Take care of it, it's one of the most important parts of the active humans body along with knees!

Yes, all the farm work down here broke me. I literally had to stay in bed, not walking, for about three weeks whenever I was not teaching. Finally, it is feeling a lot better after a stretching routine, chiropractor visits, and core workouts. The big picture to work towards is our big trip this summer!
