I love my SB Gen2 RTT...i think the clam shell type will limit your views all around your vehicle/ tent...i definitely like to be able to see everywhere...
Ive never had to climb on top of my tent, so, not sure what is going on there...i do use a step ladder and just toss it up there. I did cut the straps off as they don't have a real function ( except coming undone on the highway and putting little dings on the side of my vehicle)
I hope you enjoy your new set up...and look forward to an update.

Having it mounted on a mid-height rack makes the cab side hard to access for zipping, stuffing rainfly, and such. Its lower position also prevents me from using the window props on the cab side and when I have the 270 open anyways. lol. Seems like I should have just gotten a different rack. Thanks for watching.

@@grubandgravel" its always something "...one thing always leads to another, then another....like a never ending rabbit trail ..throwing $ as bread crumbs down along the way 😎.

So what do you do when you want to take off and explore? Do you have to pack it down each time? Seems like that would be a problem.

Ya, pretty much. The soft-shell tent up or down in 10ish minutes, but the hard shell I replaced it with is about 3. now if I have the 270 awning out that's another 5min. I load a mountain bike on the side of the rack, and I take a klx 230 dual sport on a hitch mount. If the wife or dogs are with I pull a scout offroad a-frame trailer and I don't have to go rooftop. Thanks for watching.

We went from a Tepui softshell to a Inspired Overland wedge style. Primarily for the weight and ease of set up. It's almost perfect for my wife and I but we may be going back to a softshell. The biggest issues with the wedge style are space and windows. Hardshells have less windows, are heavy and cost more. Softshells are a PITA to set up and break down but have the best viewing with windows on all 4 sides plus the tops. The space is much better than the wedge style especially since we plan to start bringing our grandsons with us. There are tradeoffs for each type... Maybe it's time to start looking at a trailer

I have an Aframe offroad scout that we take when I have the wife and dogs. I the tent mounted on a half rack with a 270 awning that sits just high enough so I cant set up all the windows anyway. Definitely have come across some tradeoffs, but my back and setup speed have improved. Thanks for watching.

Yeah, that's th main reason I switch from softshell to hardshell. Every end of the camping, I'm the one who sweating and finishing packing RTT...

Lol. I love to nap in a hammock, but I sprawl and roll too much to stay in overnight. Thanks for watching.
