I came up with a few extra ways to remember this better:
-Gambia is like a piece of gum in the snake's mouth but never getting swallowed
-Sierra Leone sounds like "sir alone," it gets left alone and the snake doesn't eat it
-If you read Benin, Togo, and Ghana from right to left, it sounds like "been in, to go, goner"
-Eritrea is like "air tree," as in a palm tree blown down by the air in a coastal storm
-Djibouti looks like the roots of the tree, which is kind of like the booty of a tree if you don't really know what trees are
-Ethiopia sounds like "Earthiopia," it's a landlocked country and it might be the earth the tree grew from
-Eswatini is tiny. Also it was called Swaziland, cause it Was part of Z-Land until it moved out
-Angola not only has a lot of right angles, but it's also "going" into other countries with all those little square bits jutting out, really putting the "go" in An "go" la
-Chad looks like the meme character named Chad. If you look up "chad meme original" you'll see him wearing the green pants
-You can remember Central African Republic is C.A.R. car, Chad's car, it's a convertible and his head is sticking out the top
-Cabo Verde sounds like salsa verde, another food the snake wants to eat. Since verde means green and most snakes are green, the snake probably really wants to taste it
-Comoros sounds like comatose, maybe it wanted to move out further into the ocean, but it fell into a coma before it could
-Seychelles is farther into the ocean and it sounds like "sea shells," since it's in the deep sea maybe it's found more sea shells
-This one is gonna sound weird, but South Africa sounds kinda like "South Africa," as in the direction south, which sorta makes sense if you think about how it's on the south part of the continent, and it also sorta reminds me of Africa in the sense that the continent it's on is called Africa, but I'm reaching at this point and I'm not sure if I can come up with anything else helpful

As someone who has visited a few of these countries, this would have been useful while travelling. But talking through the countries also is a reminder of just how diverse the continent is.

This was a HUGE help to my 9th grader! She said mom I’m never going to memorize all of Africa. I said well let’s see what we can find. We googled and came across this video you created and by the end of this video she did a pretest and got 100%. You totally Rock!! Thank you for taking the time to do this video!! If you haven’t done other counties you totally should well use and recommend them as well!! This was by far the best most helpful one on TH-cam!!!Thank you 🙏

Hi Rob, used to visit the website religiously; glad to see you're still making content!
Interestingly enough TOGO is actually also an airplane term, it's often a button in jets called "take off / go around". It sets things to the appropriate setting for take off, but also is like a quickload for landing abort settings (setting throttle to max, setting autopilot to the right setting, etc).

This is really great, thank you. I've learned these countries before, but ultimately only a few stuck. What was needed is stories that bring it back with a little work. I just learned the serpent, and will learn another section when I've got those down good. I will keep this in watch later, so I keep encountering it for my next sessions. Again, thanks so much. Now what I also need is the middle east, hint hint. If you get inspired sometime to revisit this creative approach to country namelearning... 🙂

I memorized Uganda this way: you have to go UP on the map from Lake Victoria.
Also, Malawi is by the Lake Malawi, and it's long, like the lake itself.

There is no easy way to learn all of these, but making different associations is the best bet: for example the "GER" countries from North to South in Western Africa, all contain that syllable and sound similar: AlGERia, NiGER, NiGERia; the snake story for the West Coast is too complicated, retain all the countries starting with G and C(Cote d'Ivoire) between the S countries( Senegal and Sierra Leone), for support.
