The poppies were ceramic. I visited the Tower to see the installation and, as good as this video is, nothing conveyed the incredible impact like being there and seeing the huge scale of it. Great reaction 👍

Poppies are used because of a used because of a poem. They were the first things to grow back in the destroyed battlefields.

Thank you for your lovely reaction. You are a Beautiful Couple. The Poppies were sold for veterans' charities to support more recent veterans and also to be a reminder of those who served to their families. Lest We Forget.🌹

The whole Poppy installation, when you looked at it from above looked like blood pouring out of the castle towers. The meaning of it was that soldiers’ blood was spilling into the ground when they died. I went to see the Poppy installation and it was very moving.
The Poppy flower is also the symbol of Remembrance Day in the UK when we remember ALL the soldiers (both British & Commonwealth soldiers which include Indian soldiers) that died not just in the First World War but also those that died in the Second World War and ALL subsequent wars that the UK and Commonwealth counties have been involved in. 74,000 Indian soldiers died in the First World War and 84,000 Indian soldiers died in the Second World War.
Remembrance Day each year in the UK is usually the 11th Day of the 11th Month of the year. So it falls on 11th of November each year which is called Armistice Day when a treaty was signed and guns fell silent to end the First World War.
The Poppy flower also has significance in Remembrance Day. The only flowers that grew in the fields where the soldiers died in Europe in the First World War were poppies.

The money collected for the poppies went to organisations that help ex military returning from war and their families. The last name was read out on the 11th day of the 11th month which was the day the Armistice was signed to end the War. This day - or the weekend near this day - is the time everyone in the UK commemorates those who gave their lives to keep us free.
We start wearing paper poppies in our lapels from October onwards. They are on sale everywhere. There is no price, we simply contribute what we want to, or what we can afford. On the Saturday there is always a Festival of Remembrance concert at the Royal Albert Hall, attended by the Royal Family and televised on national tv. The military take part as do national entertainers.
The next day is Remembrance Sunday. The Service, always moving, is held in London's Whitehall. The military, the Royal Family, representatives of The Commonwealth etc, attend and lay poppy wreaths. Again this is televised on national tv. All around the UK - in every village, town and city - local people hold their own services too and at 11 am, on the 11th day of November, we hold a 2 minute silence to remember all the men and women who gave their lives so that we might be free. Around the world too, on land or sea, wherever our military or sailors are serving, and in many Countries of the Commonwealth, for those moments of silence we stand together once more and remember. If you want to peek into what goes on in these Remembrance Concerts or the Service - there are many you tube clips
