I couldn't agree more about this series. It starts off grounded and charming in a way.. I don't mind a character having a certain shot or strategy for exaggeration... but the show slowly loses track of itself and seems compelled to never let Ryoma lose. EVER. I think he loses once in the whole series his record is ridiculous. Letting a character lose isn't always important but in a sports manga it adds some tension outside the initial drama of shots or strategy... I thought for example Ryoma should have lost to Jin the first time since their team managed to win statistically so it didn't even matter if he won or lose but because Jin was such a nice foil for Ryoma he'd make for a good Villian... but then he beats him and all that build up for this character Jin and his back story go out the window. Then there's Ryoma's match against Tezuka... Now Ryoma clean swept through all the starters on the team, but you got to at least leave the captain sacred. I really feel like that's why the show started sacrificing game plans for spectacle, because at this point Ryoma shouldn't even be playing at this level realistically, so why not conjurer tornados for a serve... why not.
@@LeeTSimba When you got a better win record than a Yugioh main protagonist there's something wrong. In contrast I really like Kuroko no Baske.. Technically they only lose once (but it was mentioned the major defeat they suffered caused them to lose to no name teams of screen) Also even after defeating certain teams, the Players and teams they beat remained formidable. Where some players are still tangibly better on average than the main protagonists. That story has exaggerated skills also but they are still grounded in a certain sense, and the "power creep" didn't get too insane.
Great video! I hope you do another one soon covering just how insane new prince of tennis is. You have more auras, dudes that can rip a hole in our dimension, literal time loops and time manipulation, technique stealing, shots that can destroy the court easily, 10 feet tall players, tennis being played on horses, and let's not forget 10 ball rallies! It's so dumb but I love it for how over the top it is.

@@LeeTSimba yeah, I helped manage the team, put the text to the right times, aligned text to signs, and helped check some translations. We also had other people who would translate, color the text correctly, make karaoke, and encode the episodes. About 5-7 people per episode and like 50 regulars over the course of the series. Also a huge team to send the files via IRC. Did you know blue text is for people on screen, green text is for thoughts, purple is for those off-screen, and orange for translator notes? 😎👍 Funimation is redubbing the whole series. I'm fairly impressed with the voices they chose so far (only one special translated). If you haven't watched Haikyu yet, it really scratched the Prince of Tennis itch for more content. Highly recommended!
Wow, I didn't think that many people worked on a single episode. And I do appreciate different colored text having different meaning. I wish more official translations did that instead of just using a black stroke for all text. Also I love Haikyuu, seasons 2 and 3 are my faves ❤

I know the video shows and yes, even og watchers like me who grew up with it thinks and KNOWs prince of tennis has its.....VERY quirky times, but i swear, its a nice anime. The fillers are light hearted, it can get funny, the tennis matches are actually not boring BECAUSE of all these odd things that happens. So please. Do give it a try. Its STILL ONGOING now (as of 2021 august) and theres MULTIPLE of schools and players for you to like and fan over even if seigaku or the main character ryoma is not to your liking. And no worries, theyre mostly all fleshed out proper characters. Just, go into this show head empty and accept all its ridiculous-ness cus those are half the fun x'D Btw fuji only ever lost to tezuka if im not wrong though to be fair he has yet to played with big players like sanada, yukimura and atobe etc
Prince of Tennis has the best fillers in all of anime and I stand by that. And whoops, I thought I saw boomerang snake in an irl pro tennis match. It was only a normal buggy whip shot 😅

I spoil a large amount of the plot for prince of tennis, so the video doesn't really work as a guide on how to get into it. Prince of Tennis isn't popular either right now so if I post a video with prince of tennis in the title I'm reducing the chances that someone would click on it. From what I understand at least.

I thought Sanada beating Ryoma before the Kantou finals was canon till a few years ago. I was shocked for all the wrong reasons

I followed Prince of Tennis, but seeing the moves again still made me lol-ing. Double Kikumaeu playing singles was just the best.
