One of best thrillers, saw this first time late 80s now just week ago. Still as good as i remembered. That Max Von Sydows character was really memorable.

Still one of the most unsettling scenes I’ve ever seen in a film.

"Unsettling"?! Only if like most people you're unaware of how much blood has been shed in US-led, oil-grabbing wars and coups in the Middle East and elsewhere. Very "unsettling" indeed for the circa one million Iraqis who died as a result of America's illegal WMD Lies-based 2003 invasion of oil-rich Iraq..
The most important line from the movie:
      "It's all about the oil".
Primarily meaning the gasoline that powers your beloved gasoline/combustion vehicles...
      Paul G

@@paulgovan3507 Umm…while all of that is more than likely true, I’m not sure how germane it is to my comment. I’m talking about a scene in a MOVIE. I’m very aware of the atrocities that take place in reality.

The book was better. I liked the movies action fight and kill scenes.
However, there are stupid errors made by the movies scriptwriters and Director.
      1. According to the movie, everyone in the CIA was involved in the conspiracy. Can you imagine an agency where everyone you worked with, could not be trusted, or wanted to kill you? Why would anyone want to work there! Everyone would quit.
I would have liked seeing some good guys in the agency. It would have been better if the CIA sent its special forces to kill the bad guys. Or imagine Cliff Robertsons character as a good guy, yet a badass, ex special forces dude, seeking revenge for the ones responsible for killing the analysts? That would have been way cooler.
      2. The Universal Exports cover offices. If the CIA goes out of its way to create a cover business to hide its activities why does it have to be protected by a company of U.S. Marine UNIFORMED Diplomatic Security? Talk about blowing their COVER.
I think they should do a remake of this movie correcting the errors.

The dialogue in Tarantino films are original and top-notch. His storylines are not a complete copy of anything. The dance contest in Pulp Fiction is a nod to Saturday Night Fever. Film buffs love homages because they bring back good memories.

She just trusted him, since he's just a postman ...
      Pure _psychology._
That's was exactly what base on the attack: the bad routine ...
      What is the lesson?...:
*_Never trust anyone, out of sheer routine..._*
      By the way ...
And the continue of cutscene reveals,
that the woman with the typewriter (who let the "postman" into the 'office') _had a gun in her drawer_ !
(But if he had put the gun on the manus at the time of insertion and 'shake it' the body of man, then there would have been no point in continuing the film ...)

    • @robbiereilly
      @robbiereilly 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Actually, not really. Cliff Robertson is not the 'bad guy', per se. He was unaware of his colleagues' extra curricular activities, and the hits, until they were brought to his attention. The hits were private contractors, not sanctioned by the agency.
Neither was the Director, implicated played by John Houseman.
Certainly, later, Cliff's character defends the corrupt colleagues, stating that if suddenly the power was turned off or reduced, people are going to want electricity, and they won't care how they get it. As he says, "They'll just want us to get it."
One need only look at recent events to see how right he was. Imagine, if the internet went out, don't you think most people would demand it be turned on again, no matter what coup was staged, what war was waged in some far off land?
People would go ballistic if suddenly the power was turned off on their smartphones and tablets and internet. Cliff was right. They won't care, they'll just want it. And the agency was gaming ways to keep it going (since oil was the only source of energy at that time) by overthrowing middle east leaders, coups and wars. Sound familiar? ;)

Atwood was the only truly "bad guy" in the film. He was the one who arranged the hit.
