At 05:48, I made an error in calculation. I had included the possibility of wearing the (1) holiday dress (2) holiday dress + half circle skirt WITHOUT the vests. So, instead of having 2 x 3 vest options, it should be 2 x 2 vest options. The 2 vest options are just (1) red vest (2) green vest. Is anyone still paying attention here? Am I the only one who is totally fascinated by the math involved in a capsule wardrobe?
Both of your planning videos were so fun to watch! As for ‘counting’ different outfits: if you are just using hat and coat as outerwear for when you are traveling from one place to another and then take them off, I wouldn’t count it. If you keep them on indoors or if they are part of a hiking outfit or something, it would probably count. As to buttoned or unbuttoned: YES, definitely different outfits! With buttoned blouses that could give you 3 or 4 options already without layering over it. You could wear it completely unbuttoned, open cardigan style or completely buttoned. You could use one or two buttons under the bust and let whatever you have underneath peak out top and bottom. And you can button from the bust down. With the lower buttons closed you’d also get completely different looks with tucked or untucked. A contrasting belt or a belt with a big buckle or something would also change up that tucked look. My mind is going crazy with all the possibilities right now 😂
That is impressive! To add to your styling options, the blouse looks very different with the vest when the collar is tucked in, too. You certainly have inspired me to take another look at my wardrobe to see if I can make a few new combinations.
i have a busy paisley shawl that really looks good on me i've been wearing with everything this year, i think i'm gonna take the colors of it to build my autumn or spring wardrobe
i use the same definition as you but i don't consider hat and/or coat to be doubling the number of outfit, i wear my coats long and covering (that's why i believe a perfect coat is a must to look styled in winter) so it generally gives two more outfits (and even then you take it off when indoors) i think it's great to experiment one's style through accessories because it takes less space, doesn' t require laundering and is a fun way to really polish everything out to the detail, it doesn't make notably different outfits most of the time (or at least not enough for me to not feel bored of the clothes after a bit). I would however consider expanding on two or three significantly different signature hairstyles and or makeup looks to really double or triple up the amount of possible different outfits, but i'm really a hair type of guy, so it's the first thing i look at (i have pin straight hair and i curl i on the regular so i like to have it change the whole vibe)
Very ingenious. I however think that the ‘no’ option shouldn’t count in any variation simply because that would have already been counted in the base outfits that you started with. Or maybe I’m confused 😆
Hehe i know it can be confusing but that's how combination theory works. Say if you have 1 dress and 1 vest. You can wear the dress with (1) no vest or (2) with a vest. So it's 1 dress x 2 ways with the vest = 2 ways of styling.. Try this with a bigger number!
I love how all your pieces are made with outfits in mind. It is way different than having 15 dresses for example. For me, going for a capsule wardrobe with such variety causes a bit of decision fatigue over how to style. This is why I tend to gravitate toward dresses. I don't have to think about matching everything. I guess you could say I prefer a uniform wardrobe. I don't know if anyone has made that though.
Ooo that's interesting! In my previous video, I talked about decision fatigue being one of the reasons I decided to make a capsule wardrobe. I love the idea of dresses as uniforms! Glad you found an approach that works for you x
This is fantastic! For me, if I'm going to take the coat off once I go inside, then I wouldn't consider it to be a separate outfit because at that point it's just outerwear; so, a cardigan might be a different outfit/look, but a trench coat probably wouldn't because I can't see me ever wearing a full trench coat indoors all day.
Thank you! ☺️ Yeah, I totally get your point about the trench coat. Steven would be on your side regarding this!! 😂😂😂 What are your thoughts on the vest and hat then? ☺️
@@gwenheng For hats I think the same applies, so your cute cap is a different look as worn here, but something like a sun hat wouldn't be if it's just being worn when outside. 🌞 Vests though I definitely think count, although I don't know that I would consider buttoned vs unbuttoned different looks. 🤷♀️
I love those outfits! I'm in the planning phase of my french/ parisian inspired capsule wardrobe for spring but I don't have the time to completely sew mine. I'll buy some (hopefully second hand) make some things and thrift flip some others to complete it. Your video are making me excited to hop in my sewing room again.
Yay! That’s so exciting!! Sewing EVERYTHING definitely doesn’t make sense for so many of us! I think even with a nice staple like a red cardigan, even if you have to buy brand new, it makes sense if it becomes a staple piece you wear again and again. Everything in moderation ❤️😊
Oh I loved your video! I'm so glad I found your channel Gwen! I made my own skirt by copying a favorite but wanted to try a detachable pinafore. Your video was so easy to follow and I love how mine turned out! This video has opened up so many possibilities to me in how I think about outfits. I have started dressing more vintage recently and was slightly overwhelmed changing up my whole wardrobe. So a capsule wardrobe is the way to go! I think separating the outfits into base outfits like, all the shirt, skirts, dresses and vests gives you the most realistic number of outfits but then there are hundreds of variations of those outfits. I think what is the minimum articles of clothing I would wear at home as the base outfit. Then everything else is a bonus!
Thank you Stephanie! So glad you found the pinafore tutorial helpful! Reading this made me smile - thanks for sharing your thoughts on the outfits!! xx
I don’t think a jacket or hat makes a new outfit. Especially if you are coming in from the cold. If you take your jacket off you don’t have a new outfit on. A jacket or hat completes the outfit but isn’t the complete outfit. The collar folded in really changes the look as well! Love the video though! Still so many outfits! ❤
Yeah you’re right about taking jacket off! But i’m glad you think folding the collar in changes the look too. Funny how small changes can be significant! Glad you enjoyed the video 🥰

I love your passion for buttoned vs unbuttoned!!!! ✨💖 Absolutely love the idea with the belt too!! So then we have belt vs no belt? Bahahahaha 😂
Great work! As sewists we sometimes get so excited by a specific fabric we forget it needs to coordinate with something.
Yes! And I hate spending lots of time making something and then only realising it doesn't go with anything later. 😂
Wish I found your channel earlier. Love ur whole vibe
Awww never too late!! So glad to have you here 💕🥰

You're absolutely right! And yet another consideration to add to the equation! Styling stuff is so much fun hehehe XD

I wouldn’t count hat vs. no hat, and I would need 7-10 tops to get from one wash day to the next!

Glad you do!! xx
If I could give all of your videos 10 thumbs up I would!!! I love your style and I love the way you explain things! Thank you!!!
Ahhhh you're the sweetest!!! Thank you so much 💗💗💗

I love the math😅 and wow, this really makes the case for a capsule wardrobe.
Hehe I love the math too. Though it also gave me a headache XD

I think hat or no hat wouldn’t make a whole new outfit, but if you would wear your coat indoors I think it would qualify.
That's fair!
I would say if you’re going to take the jacket off when you get where you’re going then it doesn’t count ❤
Hehe that’s fair
