As someone who has gone through the trauma of heart failure and heart surgery, this scene really affected me on a personal level. I wasn't expecting this storyline at all. Emilia was brilliant at portraying someone dealing with the aftermath of major heart surgery. IT IS TRUE, I have felt numb since the moment I came out of the operating theatre. I have felt useless and confused and like Kate said 'half-dead'. It's a sort of detached feeling that one cannot comprehend unless they have been through it themselves. Had their chest drilled open, their heart stopped. Felt the absolute agony of retching uncontrollably when your ribcage is broken from top to bottom and not being able to stop because the strong painkillers are making you feel sick to your stomach, or not even being able to sit up on your own because it feels like a car is pressing down on your chest. But as I watched that particular scene, it really resonated with me. I thought that I was alone in this feeling, I too thought I was going crazy. It's one of the hardest, most terrifying experiences, and I'm still battling with it. I'm still trying to find the person I was before.

I assume because she's had a lot of issues with her brain, which she had to deal with while filming GOT, so she understands on a personal level.
I take my hat off to you, I was on medication and it gave me heart palpating and weird beating, I felt physically sick and loads of bad side effects, hope you're okay.

What I like about Tom is that his love is so pure, just PURE LOVE. He didn't rush things just to get intimate.. His emotional support is unexplainable ❤️ I wish the world is full of people like him!

That's what the best comedies do. They make you think and feel. They make you feel the laughter more intensely by contrasting it with the sad moments in our lives. That's also what great actresses do.

Having watched the movie directly without trailer, I did NOT see the reveal coming. It was heart wrenching. But more than that, this scene here in particular is what made me cry. I could relate so much and this whole scene is just so sweet the way Tom says all the perfect things in her vulnerable state and the lullaby and that kiss. After ages a movie scene moved ne so much.
I haven't seen this film but gosh this scene is very relatable. "They told me I was lucky to be alive. But I feel half dead"... like same here. After almost dying, spending months in ICU and coming home again... I'm told how lucky I'm to be alive. But I still get sick & I don't feel lucky at all. This scene really speaks volume to me coz just like Kate, I wanna feel normal once.
This was such a gut wrenching, beautiful scene, even though the most of the audience could see the huge reveal coming from a mile away three months before the trailer was released! 😅
Strangely he didnt even look like a ghost at all. He wasnt pale,didn't go straight into Kate like Casper with Kat(oh wait Casper did touch Kat when he was in human form)

Try nearly 40 year’s!?! 🤣🤣🤣as soon as they said it’s based off the late Legend George Michael’s (R.I.P. 💔💙) opening lines of “Last Christmas” everyone who knows that song worked out the plot because it actually tells you what’s gonna happen! Although I’m not knocking this movie I actually enjoyed it and I loved hearing the two brand new, never been played or heard before until this movie songs of his that his family picked and let them have for the movie after they watched it before anyone else and thought these two songs in particular would be perfect for it so they gave them the rights to the unreleased songs for free providing any money that they make from the sound track and downloads/buying the songs separately it all goes to charities that George supported. We’ll never hear another voice like George Michael’s every again 2016 was the worst year for losing legends starting with David Bowie and Alan Rickman on the same day and ending with George. We lost more legends that year then any other. 💔💔💔😢😢😢

This year to save me from tears I’ll give it someone special!” That’s what this movie is based on and that’s what she’s talking about in this scene and they both do throughout the movie. It was a big mistake on movie makers telling us it’s based on them opening lines because they give away the whole movie plot. If they didn’t mention that they could have surprised people but them revealing that gave away their own movie and that’s probably why not many people went to watch it and it was considered a box office bomb. Even though I knew what was going to happen I still went to watch it and really enjoyed it and so did my children and partner and he hates watching movies like this but there wasn’t anything else on that we hadn’t already seen that was suitable for children. He normally goes to sleep if we watch movies like this, he actually stayed awake throughout this movie and wasn’t expecting to like it.

This is so depressing hearing her say "I dont know what they put back but it felt weird" and "I didn't feel alive, just half-dead" when the heart literally came from the person Right in front of her. And Tom looks like he feels kind of guilty kuz the only thing he wants is for her to be happy and yet his heart unintentionally caused the absolute opposite. God damn I love this scene but it's so depressing
When I saw the title, thought “ cheesy Hallmark Christmas movie”, but kept watching because of the casts. Really enjoyed it.
Yes! This movie is actually really sweet and moving, and I was very impressed by Emilia, especially in this scene. I think she drew from her experience of suffering from two brain aneurysms, and having to have two invasive procedures as a result of them.
I thought that too... not my kind of thing. But I literally came for george michael and ended up really loving the movie.

@@Angelina7867 I am really proud we donated his organs. They took everything except his liver...(the meds icu used to attempt to lower the brain swelling excluded it from being harvested) this was 1988...long before the internet and all this connectivity. I have no idea if the kid that got his heart lived past the initial operation. They used to send a letter after, general info, ages n stuff on who got what, but no clue to find out. It's been so long, that human might have needed another one by now, if he's still alive. I know it happened in the South, I know it went to a boy a week before he turned 14 and the letter had this "this is the best birthday gift I could have ever imagined".
I have prayed for that human every day of my life since May 1988. I really hope my brother visited him, and he's still alive, and my brothers heart has been good to him. It used to be my dream to just hear it beating...I can no longer remember my brothers voice. It was a lot of trauma for an 8yr old little girl, and I lost so many of my childhood memories, his voice was one.
Anyway, yes, I am very proud of the decision my Mother made, the strength of character it took, especially as my father was against it. She went to bat for my brothers wishes and 5 people got improved lives from our loss. We were 18 months apart, he and I, he was the elder. He`d seen my mom sign the back of her new drivers license and asked why...that's how he even knew about organ donation. He thought it was brilliant, as he was super into science. It took a lot of generosity of spirit for her to make it happen, in the midst of the unknowable, ungodly, unnatural loss of her only son, and first born child.
I was just a kid, too. I was the tie breaker in the decision, I don't think my dad ever forgave me for it, but it witnessed him approve of the whole concept, so I felt like Mom had the right of what he'd have wanted, especially as saving him became unattainable. He spent 3days in the ICU at Egelston in ATL. They couldn't save stop the brain swelling, he was brain dead.
It shook a lot of people involved. The poor young woman who hit him, the babysitter we were at when it happened and her whole family, me, my whole family. The ONLY bright spot was Scott`s heart still beat on this earth.

Its really truly amazing that you and your family did what you did. It's not a natural postion to be put in and it shows the true strength and depth of your characters for you all to do as you did - it's totally understandable that it would never be a straightforward decision. I believe you are all really special and amazing people for your choice. May God bless you all always....

It seems so unfair that you dont have more or current information on the recipents of Scott's gifts. Just keep focusing on the positive. Scott has left an amazing legacy - there is no better on this planet. May he be blessed in Heaven for it for eternity. You said that he helped change the lives of 5 people. How amazing. Whatever time he has given (or did give) those recipients is a miracle and the greatest thing they could have ever have - the joy and hope that he will have given those others and their loved ones. Ultimately he gave them a true fighting chance and I pray that you are all blessed for it..

The movie for me was really special as I am a born and bred Londoner and familiar with all of the filming locations but more so in particular as I underwent open heart surgery earlier this year to correct a huge congenital heart defect which was discovered a few months before the surgery and which I had carried from birth undetected for 44 years. My family and friends have been really supportive in the recovery but for me its been really odd and I haven't fully got to grips with the emotion of it all - in the grand scheme of lifes' challenges I'm lucky it was discovered and it has been treated - it has created a whirlwind of emotions and thoughts for me. I ma recovering and both mentally and physically from it. I loved this scene in the movie as the whirlwind of emotions resonated with me.. and that is how I discovered your inital post....
I just want to say again that I pray that you and your family are all blessed and able to find some peace in this all. May Scott rest in peace in heaven for eternity - amongst the company of other angels.

Yup, born with 3 different spinal curvatures, diagnosed with respiratory failure at 9, got a tracheostomy at 12, after having serious breathing issues and told I would probably die in a year without a tracheotomy and with it I would only get 1extra year me a death sentence of 14 yrs old. Then 8hour nursing care all through my teens-they even went to school with me because of laws(major buzzkill when it came to friends) nearly died at 18, 20 surgeries of various kinds by 21, also then diagnosed with an irregular heart rate condition that i will spare you the spelling of, plus a feeding tube at 24. Also the only thing the hospital has that I don’t have at home- IV meds, I have sleep apnea so I live with life support then a bunch of other machines and medical supplies .
I have my faith, I love God, but sometimes it’s HARD being alone, I’m lucky I have a supportive family. But my friends and family are all married, I just want a man, a human man to tell me the want me for me, and hold and hug me, not I’m a friendly way but in a romantic way. they don’t pity me, they just love me. not give me fake compliments, if you are disabled or handicapped you will know what I’m talking about.
ps. I know this comment sounds like I’m fishing for pity- I’m not, I’m just venting.

As someone who will have a heart transplant in the distant future this captured a fear I’ve always had. I’m scared of that feeling “I don’t know what they put back”. Like taking on someone’s heart and removing yours feels like it’s going to be much more than just a physical organ. And I’ve heard of people that have had heart transplants and it changing them in that way. I don’t want someone else’s heart I want to keep my heart.

Hi, I had a transplant (kidney) and I am so grateful for the beautiful gift of life. You forget about the 'weirdness' after a bit and thank God for the progress Science has made. It's absolutely brilliant what can be done nowadays. You'll be fine and have a normal life afterwards. Sending healing thoughts your way.

I felt this scene so much. I often feel broken and like I can't do anything. That I'm a failure when I was supposed to be exceptional. And it's just so hard to remember about everyday actions building everything. I'm now in therapy and I hope to get better, but right now being a human is just so hard.

When you have a life altering experience like that it can take a long time to heal. I had a surgery nearly 10 years ago, I nearly died, and I’ve never been the same, not just physically but emotionally, I want to feel better, I just don’t know how, I hate pity, I was born disabled so I’ve gotten it my whole life. Yet I find myself talking about my health and my pain and the side effects of what happened a lot, hoping someone will come along and say the perfect thing to make it all better. I’m scared and require butt loads of pills and life support to wake up and be functional, I’m really lucky because I’m much more mobile than any doctor ever thought I would be and have outlived every expectation, yet I’m still broken inside.
That must be unbelievable difficult. You are a warrior. I don't have the perfect words for you. Existing in itself can feel unfathomable sometimes. You've made it this far so you're doing better than you think. Know that you are not alone. People can help without taking pity. I hope you have a good support system. These words probably sound weird from a stranger. I won't pretend to know you or what you're going through. Just know you can do this.
3ChordsAndTheTruth thank you. I’m very lucky I have a good support system, plus my mother is a registered nurse, she knows the lingo and as such understands a lot of what the docs are talking about and understands what’s necessary and what’s not. She’s awesome.

I don't know what to say, I'm not good with compassion or words like some people. But I will say that u really are a true warrior. Stay strong. At some point u might think it not going to get any good soon. But have faith one day you'll find something that will change ur life. I'm not talking just about love there might also be some other grand things coming in Ur life soon that'll give u the happiness and peace.

i watched this movie yesterday, it absolutely broke me, i was left crying for hourssssss ): but now a scene is in my recommended, i-
As a person who has had two open heart surgeries will probably have up 10 in my life this is so terrifying. I cant wear tank tops or bikinis or basically anything that shows any part of my stomach or chest because people stare or make disgusted faces at me when they see it. I’m terrified of people seeing it and pitying me or thinking I’m incapable of anything or just plain thinking that I’m repulsive which has happened before. Unless you have eight scars or one across your chest or stomach you will never understand the pure terror of showing your scar or in my case my eight scars all across my chest stomach. You feel so vulnerable and so judged. She did an amazing acting job.

Gracefuntime103 456 I think this shows that it’s not an issue of the scars which show how brave you are but more the judgement of others and their perception of what those scars mean. Instead of seeing them as a sign of what an individual has faced and overcome and how beautiful they are inside and out they just see a mark on the skin. Keep strong, it’s others that need to change
Bec she too got it from her own experience, one of the reasons why she accepted this role.
Had two aneurysms at different years.
Three operations with her brain.
First one, almost lost her memory.
Aphasia.
Second one failed. So, they had to open her head.
At one point, she died for a minute.
Her skull has now a metal in it and a part of her brain died and the doctors still dont know what skill she lost.

I had open heart surgery and I hid my scar for so long ...and now I wear shirts that show it not to much but I’m not ashamed of it and anyone who stares at me I just smile cause I don’t need to be afraid I’ve been through enough and I am strong and SO ARE YOU ❤️
There’s nothing weird about it. People just need to remember how precious life is and how easily it can be taken away…. I personally can’t believe how someone can go through surgery so many times.

Thus why the very next scene we see of them together gets hella complicated lmao

I had heart surgery when I was 4 months old and then again when I was 15 (to put in a valve) & most likely will have to have another in the future. After I had my 2nd one though, I have felt like a different person & can't really explain why. So I really resonate with this scene.

I knew how this was going to end just by the trailer but it still pissed me off that she didn't end up with him. It's like a Nicholas Sparks romance novel, he builds you up and invests in the relationship, then he Stephen Kings one of them off. 💔

I found this story to be surprisingly strange. Lol but in a good way. It touched mental health issues, family disfunction, grief and organ donorship all in a xmas movie?? Lol i came away knowing this movie would touch a lot of ppl going through similar experiences. A story thay needed to be told.

I'm surprised with this comment section, how many people have spoiled the movie in the comments for those who have not seen it yet. I don't see this too often but still, I think others can understand that it's pretty inconsiderate. Some people can pick up on how they know the movie is going to play out, but not everyone. I think there are people out there that would get what I'm saying.

Imogen Payne i found an interview where she said that this movie’s plot was a big coincidence, and part of why she took the role, but not the main reason. she wrote her story for the new york times. if you google it you should find it easily
