My dad grew up in the tiniest town in Belmont, Louisiana (Luziana, lol), and I went to Many, which was a small town in its own rite (its grown quite a bit...sad) every summer when I was a kid, so I was practically raised there. The main event in town was the basketball game, and my very first steady boyfriend was on the team. Unfortunately, I had to go back to school. My friends and cousins tried to talk my dad into letting me go to school in Many - it would have been so cool. A good Southern man will defend you with his life, and they deserve all the respect a strong woman has to give them. I still miss my first boyfriend, and that was years ago when I was 14 and he was 18, (I'm 66 now), but he came from a good family, so my dad didnt have too much of a problem with it, especially since he was a supurb basketball player! Born and raised in Tennessee. In the middle of a UT Vols family. Never cared about football, but loved the songs, "Sweet Home Alabama" and My Home's in Alabama". Met some guy on the internet, who wasn't my type. But he was 400 miles away, in Mobile. I figured it wouldn't hurt to talk to him, since he didn't mind that I said we wouldn't work out. Six months later, we met. After we met a couple more times, I moved my Tennessee ass to Mobile! A year later, we got married. Now, 15 years later, we just bought a place in the mountains of northeast Alabama, and are going to try our hand at gardening, an orchard, and chickens. My home is definitely in Alabama, and I can't wait to move to Sand Mountain! (We were shooting for Lookout Mountain, but couldn't find exactly what we were looking for there) Oh, and by the way, I am now a rabid Alabama football fan. But to all you Barners, I love you too, for everything you did to help Tuscaloosa after that horrible tornado. Rivalries only happen because we have teams to root for. Human beings love each other, regardless. This is the best state to live in, for me!
Randy is just like, damn that boy can sing. Love it. Respect for fellow musicians is a lost art it seems like. Love Randy, gonna miss Jeff, and Jamie will keep country alive.

Southern born and southern raised. I also grew up in the foothills of the Appalachians. Just a stones throw from Fort Payne. Us kids could make pocket money picking pepper and cotton. We would set on the tailgate of my uncle's old Chevy and go get RC cola and a pack of peanuts. Now those were truly the good old days.

In the early 80's, working in radio, got press passes to Alabama's June Jam in Ft. Payne. Temp was about 101 that day but nobody left. Saw Alan Jackson, Travis Tritt, Lorrie Morgan, Asleep At The Wheel, Clint Black, Dolly Parton, Alabama and others. Incredible day!
Alabama and Jamey Johnson make us Alabamians all proud to be from there, and knowing that good country music will survive. They definitely answer the question of "Who's gonna fill those shoes?"
Mr. Randy Owens is a stand up guy. Been to a couple of the June Jams when I lived in Pulaski, TN. Also seen them boys a few times in Michigan. The latest was in Tampa visiting my daughter, my parents came down and my daughter had us tickets in Tampa to see Alabama, with Charlie Daniels..... Sweet... I been following them since The Bowery. I was only 12 at the time, but always go there when I meet or bring folks down to Myrtle Beach. Mr. Vaugh, Tell your cousin we love him and hope he's doing well. Thank you
How this song only topped out at number 17 on the Country chart I will never understand. I was at Fort McClellan for boot camp, and this song was an anthem back in the early 80’s. I cried when I first heard this song, and I’m from up north. They sing this song with absolute pride, and you can tell they’re proud their home is in Alabama.
I LOVE THESE GUYS!!! I have worked in radio for 40+ years. Our station worked with Alabama many times on station giveaways to their concerts which also included the June Jam in Ft Payne. This IS something I’ll never forget!!!! We would go early to the Jam and have brunch with Alabama and sit with them and just talk about everything! I remember it well and hold it close to my heart. In all of our stations promotions, ALABAMA WAS “THE BEST”! The guys “never” got the big-head and were as down home as we were. We met them in Huntsville Alabama around 1982 as they opened for Ronnie Milsap. This was before the “Feel So Right” album came out. Well after that release, we all know what happened! Thank you Alabama for all the great music and how you treated us throughout your career! YOU ARE THE BEST EVER!
I went through a divorce at age 39 and I played this song every time on a jukebox at a bar I’d go to.. I needed this song after my ex cheated on me. Met and married a beautiful woman 15 years younger than me that gave me her 2 kids to raise and 2 kids of our own. With her 2, my 3 and our 2 we created a close loving family that filled me with joy. None of the kids, 6 of which are adults, consider themselves as true brothers and sisters and I get called dad by all. Legacies are created just by being loving parents and I’m blessed beyond words!
Alabama must be really nice because everyone from there reps it hard. I was in the Marine Corps and a fellow Marine and dear friend was from Alabama. I must have heard that knucklehead say Roooooolllllll Tide like ten million times. Miss that crazy bastard.

Why we don't hear more from jamey Johnson is beyond me. He and sturgill Simpson could school country music. I've been to Nashville many times. Best music I've ever heard! None of it makes it to radio. I think that's sad. Nashville has talent.
Jamey Johnson refuses to bow to the Nashville beauacracy, he does his music, his way, Kip Moore is the same, me, I am not a fan of Country Music, was raised on all types of music, stuck with heavy metal, Jamey Jognson is a TRUE musician!
They've been doing it for years. The greatest artists ever, like Ricky Van Shelton. had their "moments in the sun" then totally disappear. Sad state when it's money, not talent, that rules Nashville.
Ask Bocephus, he dropped Nashville as they dised his father and his music! Also Shooter Jennings, I think Nashville has got away from real country music!
Love this song I was born in Montgomery Alabama in 1958 the same year my granddaddy retired from Maxwell Airforce Base he was a World War Two veteran that served his country for twenty nine years he was like a father to me.
As a true Southerner, born and raised in Birmingham- the Heart of Dixie. Though I left nigh on 50 years ago I still speak my Southern English and I do remember the view from Lookout Mountain. WAR EAGLE! ;-)
I held on to my music too no matter where I lay my head too. I still speak southern everywhere I go, with no reguard to the ones who make fun of my accent and thankful for the ones who are smart enough to know where you are from doesn’t determine intelligence or how you think. Roll Tide to infinity! For all of us who enjoyed other places but hold thier raising in high reguard and appreciate the few who understand us and our determination to keep culture growing learning and sticking to historical lessons that need not be repeated unless they involved good things. Thanks y’all for a great performance!

This is the best state to live in, for me!
itsnotthesamething. Lol its good
Randy is just like, damn that boy can sing. Love it. Respect for fellow musicians is a lost art it seems like. Love Randy, gonna miss Jeff, and Jamie will keep country alive.
Jamey is one of the last Mohicans as they say! Ain’t to many country artist out there that do traditional, real country and have that southern country voice, its got so much soul it’s ridiculous!!!! Im from SC born and raised and something about them South Georgia and Alabama dudes that can sing like that.
This was awesome! THIS is country music
Thank you Alabama for giving a great Man Mr Jamey Johnson a chance to sing.He is so great in God's eyes.God bless Alabama and the Johnson family.
His voice harkens back to a better day in country music
Damn straight. There's only a few of us left.
Oh well, you have that in a small Dixie town.

Great song I'm glad I found it.
He is awesome!! Jamie’s voice has that true depth ( as did Haggard)... speaking the true heart of this nation! Semper Fi!
Hello beautiful lady
I've had Co'cola and peanuts on a tailgate many a time. Also viennas and hoop cheese. Southern born and southern raised in East MS just 15 miles from the Bama line.
Yes! Better times!
So true... When I say I miss Tennessee I whole heartedly mean it, living in Florida is just a fake, no way no how is a good feeling.
What happened to country music, this is REAL country.
But he isn't a member of the Grand Ole Opry, how sad is that?
Amen
@@stacyhutchens2373 The grand ole Opry is worthless piece of shit. They pick and kick out true country, and sure some legends are still apart of the opry, but the opry is a fucked up system
Agree with you funny thing is though that people back when these guys first started out were saying that they weren't country either.
No place like home, nothing like singing, being authentic, rooted you are in sweet Alabama. It made you, Jamey the man you are today.
My home is in Alabama too, southern born and southern bred!! Thank you Alabama band!! 😁
I'm not from Alabama, but this song always takes me home to the hills of Kentucky. Don't know what it is about it, always takes me home.
I’m an OLD northwest Kansas farm boy. I live in ALABAMA!!…This Is A GREAT Song!!!

I love the fact the lead singer of Alabama sat there in awe of Jamie Johnson. He finally stepped back and said wow. 😍
Absolutely. Did not see that coming, either, man. Wow.
Had to be a heady performance for Jamey with the man standing right behind him. I believe he approved. Well done!!! Just awesome.
I love this video!!! It's my go to video when life knocks me down. Alabama is my favorite group then, now and forever. Jamey Johnson my favorite male performer. I love the mutual respect you can feel between these guys.
i came here for Alabama, but wow, Jamey Johnson...tears in my eyes. 🔥You nailed it.
My mom passed away two weeks ago and Alabama was her favorite group. Much love to Alabama and Jamey for this great cover. Thank you all, she would've loved this. She died never hearing this rendition

Real music played and sang by real players and singers, thank you!!
You nailed it! ❤
I was born in 76 so I was introduced and grew up with Willie and George and Waylon and Hank Jr and Johnny along with Merle. As I grew older and migrated back to classic country, Merle was always my go-to. I tell younger peeps all the time, look people got all horny for Johnny Cash when he did that song with Trent Reznor and people jumped on the Willie bandwagon bc he was a weed advocate etc. But alot of people missed the bus bc Merle Haggard was the most legit of all of em. People just dont know. Heres to the Hag! 🍻
Jamey is the best country music since waylon. That says A LOT. Waylon is the goat
Sitting here vacationing with the family in Mentone Alabama listening to this great rendition of this song on Lookout Mountain. Songs like these make you very proud to have the privilege to live in this great country and this great state of Alabama.
Jamey and the boys from Ft. Payne. Nobody could have sung it or played it any better. I've been gone for almost 30 years but FL will never be my home. Bama boy and damn proud of it.

I would like to see Jamey play with Marshall Tucker Band as well? It would be amazing 👏
God that is real country music there. Im so glad I grew up in the 90s.
Alabama and Jamey Johnson make us Alabamians all proud to be from there, and knowing that good country music will survive. They definitely answer the question of "Who's gonna fill those shoes?"
When you see a leed singer stands in awe. That's really saying something about my cousin Randy Owens!
Thank you
I can only imagine those family stories told at Christmas.

My brother and I listen to Jamey sing this over and over when we go visit our dad out of state. Great memories.
This never gets old. I was raised in Texas and I live up north now but I feel like they're singing to me too.
How much confidence does Randy Owen have to just stand by and let his song be sung?
Great Job Jamey......Sung like a true Southern. Good to see you with Jeff and the Boys.....
One of the best music performances ever. Happy Veteran’s Day!
Arkansas born and raised, but damn if this didn’t make me feel like an Alabaman! God bless the South.
Jamey Johnson is one of the great talents of our lives! He’s right there with Allison Krauss, Ricky Skaggs, and Johnny Cash!
You just made me realize how old I am. I saw Alabama as the opening act for Ronnie Milsap in 1980. I did basic at McClellan on the fall of 1981.
Nothing sounds better than the mighty Alabama and My homes in Alabama classic song Jamey's version is spot on
Nice. Hey Jamey a sincere thanks to you and your team for all of hardwork. Haven’t heard this tune in years. God Bless!
Oh look it's the greatest country band that ever lived singing backup.
Never sleep in a shitty bed...respect yourself, good pillows also...im finding my way as well
Alabama must be really nice because everyone from there reps it hard. I was in the Marine Corps and a fellow Marine and dear friend was from Alabama. I must have heard that knucklehead say Roooooolllllll Tide like ten million times. Miss that crazy bastard.

This song fits me to a tee I moved to Alabama12 years ago and my momma passed and she was in PA. So I came up for the funeral and I cant wait to go back home to the deep south where the weather and the people are warm GOD BLESS THE SOUTH AND THE PEOPLE THERE
Why we don't hear more from jamey Johnson is beyond me.
Completely agree, new county music is dead, need radio stations playing outlaw/underground REAL country music.
@@nicpipkin3445 yep. He won’t do bro country or tractor rap so they won’t have anything to do with him.
