Considering the rise in electricity prices, with more increases due around October, it might be cheaper sticking with diesel.

Yet it isn’t. Charging overnight an EV is far, far cheaper.

The range is only 150 miles and therefore you need two buses to complete a full days service. The batteries last 4-5 years when a normal double decker is a 20 year investment. They take 6-8 hours to charge and cost twice the price of a normal double decker. Fuel prices are expensive but nowhere near offsetting the investment of an electric bus fleet. Electric buses are a huge experiment just now. We need to make public transport cheaper and not more expensive. SPT had two electric buses on the 100 service but they were scrapped after a few years.

How in hell's name are these things going to be 'economically-viable', given the price of electricity as it is currently? I mean, these buses obviously have to be charged-up overnight, so the bus operators electricity-bill must be absolutely horrendous!!!!!!!

Because they are used to soak up the excess renewables overnight. I get a huge discount to charge overnight, don’t know their tariff, but mine works out at about £6 for 300 miles.

The buses are much more expensive using the price of fares up.

Much cheaper to operate, no oils to change, no clutches to change, no transmissions, brakes barely used due to regen using the motors, very little moving parts to go wrong.

One caught alight a couple of days ago. Lethal and not eco friendly.
