Yes!! I got my Backbend Kickover by doing it on a downhill. Also I used a stack of mats, and would decrease the mats little by little. I think working on my bridge form like you suggested would have made it a lot easier!
Yay! Yeah, the mat trick works great too. I just don't have mats or else I would have used them! I didn't realize until after that my bridge form was really preventing me from getting the skill. I think overtime when I was practicing, my form got better as my back got more flexible, but I definitely could have gotten the skill a lot quicker had I paid more attention to my technique!
THANK YOUU OMG I FINALLY DID IT😳❤ I HAVE NO MATES AND I DID THIS EASILY AND I DONT GO TO GYMNAST I PRACTICED ON WALL AND COACH THEN ON THE FLOOR😊💗 TY sm
I’m a little late but I’m still working on this so I’m glad that a tutorial was posted because I need it A LOT. I’m still working on it but I’m still stuck on the mental block. Thank you a lot can’t wait for a Q and A!!
I hope this helps!! I used to have a really big mental block on the kickover (and I kind of have one with the back walkover which I'm trying to get rid of). Doing it on a slight downhill really helped me get over the fear of kicking over. Honestly, at some points I thought I would NEVER be able to do it, and then one day I just did it. Then I could do them basically 100% of the time. I even took like 2 months off and could still do one :) Don't give up and you will get it!!! Also they key is to work on your bridge position !!
@@angela-sh8zy that sounds kind of similar to how my bridge used to look, but it's fixable! What helps is to straighten your elbows (but don't lock them) and try to make them go next to your ears. Think about rounding your back and try to walk your hands and feet in to make them as close together (but do this carefully). I think also that just practicing bridges helped loosen my back up a little, as well as improve my arm strength to hold myself up... You could also try stretching your back (carefully) by walking your hands down against a wall (backbend against wall). :)
Thank you so much! The tips of having the backbend as small as possible, running the legs up and down for momentum, and practicing split handstands are all so useful. My main fear is that my good leg will go to the side, rather than backwards. Thank you for posting!!! 💜💜💜
Thanks so much, and glad to hear! My good leg often goes out to the side with my back walkover. Maybe try with a spotter to help guide your leg back. trying on a downhill might help, too!
What helped me was making my bridge as tight as possible (arms covering my ears) and rocking back and forth before I kick off the ground to give myself a bit of momentum. It also really helped to kick off of a higher surface, such as a mat, or do it on a downhill. That way I could experience what kicking backwards felt like and get over the fear. I hope you get yours soon and have a good gymnastics practice! :)
@@foreverinhandstand9456 Can you please give me tips for me to get my back walkover today too? :) I really want to get my back handspring before my birthday. My birthday is September 20th. :)
@@maggieflint6034 The back handspring is a skill I have wanted to get too, and I think that's a great goal! For the back walkover, it came much quicker than the backbend kickover. My form is far from perfect (even towards the end of the video when it slightly improves - I'll link video: th-cam.com/video/4fud8-JPpnY/w-d-xo.html). I always warmed up by doing backbends and then kicking over from a bridge. Then I went backwards really slow with my good leg up in the air. A big part of the skill is just getting over the fear of going backwards (which I still struggle with)...
Sadly nope :(.. I can do a back walkover, but the back handspring has always been a skill I've wanted to learn. When I was trying to work on it, I tried to do fast back limbers. I think I'm also scared about jumping backwards.

ForeverInHandstand do you have any suggestions on how to fix my form? my bridge is kind of like flat instead of curved for some reason!
