  • Jack Whiting shares his experience about Floating Floors, what they are and how we might benefit from using this construction method for Acoustic Floors.
As he states a a Floating Floor is essentially a flooring layer that is isolated from the subfloor with no direct vertical fixing through it.
Jack describes the different ways to create a Floating Floor on both concrete and timber joist subfloors.
He walks through iKoustics product range including
    Self adhesive acoustic batten strips
    Isolation strips F5 and P8
    MuteCradles
    MuteMat2
    MuteMat3
    MuteMat OSF 750-10
    MuteMat USP625-17
    Tecsound SY70
    Mineral Wool 60kg/m3

Based on it, the strength of the structure of the house will be affected? Will not?

Hi Leandro, as soundproofing materials have a high mass, you should check your structure can take the new load.

It doesn't make any sense as the subfloor must be screwed on the joists. I don't think that it is in accordance with building control regulations.

So when I'm framing and dont secure any walls through the subfloor, what happens when a gust of wind comes and pushes my walls off of the unattached subfloor????? Seems like a neat idea but in aome parts of Canada you need to use hurricane strapping and bolts walls to the floor below......

Hi Jake, thanks for your comment! We are based in the UK, our houses are built differently here to suit the weather. This floating floor is for a retro fit inside a brick house, this wouldn't be installed at the point of contruction. Thanks for watching!
