My dog loves these videos! I work from home and I put these on for him while I’m working so he doesn’t get too bored. It’s so funny watching him laying on the couch watching all the dogs play and occasionally running up to the screen to investigate a particularly interesting interaction.
We lost our 15.5 year-old Heeler in November and are looking out for the right dog for us and our Border Collie- my boyfriend and I found ourselves watching this and getting an idea of the dogs personalities and then clicking through to the adoptable dogs on the website to see who’s still available.
These videos are a fantastic idea- entertaining dogs, getting adoptable dogs in front of potential adopters and using the ad revenue to support the shelters! Seriously brilliant! Props to whoever came up with it!
Thanks! Good luck finding a buddy for your Border Collie. A few years ago, I retired, moved to Tucson, and planned to make some sort of videos for TH-cam. I stumbled into the shelter while riding my bike around Tucson and volunteered to walk dogs. When I saw the playgroups I knew this was a really good idea for a TH-cam channel.
My dog Lulu likes watching this channel; good job people 👍🏼
Awesome! Another happy dog.
Thank you so much for posting these. I work from home and I've been watching my sister's dogs while she's on her honeymoon. The dogs love these videos you post. They watch so intently. They keep them occupied.
I'm glad her dogs enjoy these videos.
I love Crikey... Silly question : Does he bark with an Australian accent ? ( Since he's an Australian Blue Heeler .. yuk yuk )
Yeah, only Australian Shepherds can understand them.
I love these videos! Do you know what breed Stanley is? We have a rescue from a shelter in GA and she looks JUST like Stanley, but we have no idea what she is. We just assumed she was a mix, but its strange that she looks just like another dog! Her coloring is brown with a black snout, but her body, head, face, paws, and tail looks just like Stanley. Would love to know if you guys know what he is!
Stanley's notes say that he's a Labrador Retriever + Pit Bull mix, which is not surprising since there are so many pit bull mixes at the shelter.
Thanks
Do you have daycare on you tube for small dogs
I recorded one small dog playgroup, but it's a short video. A lot of viewers show these large dog playing to their small dogs. I would think a lot of small dogs would be afraid of all the giants.

Leaving the leashes on seems like it could be a bit dangerous.
It's actually much more dangerous to remove the leashes. I've seen one case where a dog's life was saved because of them. In the rare case where a fight breaks out, the yard instantly becomes a very different place with several amped up dogs that are capable of seriously biting people and/or dogs. Lots of trained dog handlers rush into the yard and help separate dogs by grabbing their leashes and tying them off until all the dogs are separated.
One important note is that if one dog is latched onto another dog, never pull them apart as it will cause more damage. You either _carefully_ use a bite stick to pry open the dog's mouth or else do a maneuver of grabbing the back of the collar, twisting it, and pushing the dog into the other dog (called "feeding the bite"), but that's an advanced technique that I wouldn't recommend.
I always wondered ( I mean I'm sure you guys are trained ).... but how do you differentiate between dogs that are just playing rough and dogs that are starting to get actually aggressive ?
Yeah, there's a lot of training required before someone can lead a playgroup. Dogs Playing for Life pioneered shelter dog playgroups and they came to the shelter for a 5 day hands-on training program in 2022 for a refresher course. The main thing to look for is consent. If all dogs involved are wanting to be involved in the interaction, then that's good. Another thing to look for is the emotional level of the interaction. Too much of anything can be bad. A moderate level of growling is actually not bad.
All dogs have the right to tell any other dog to "back off". It's called a correction. All dogs should respect corrections for any other dog. When they repeatedly don't respect corrections, they must be taken out of the main play yard and either go into the side yard or back to their kennel.
In the event of some frightening interaction, the dog who was wrong gets removed while any dogs who were frightened or even mildly harmed stay in the yard so that they don't associate the playgroup with the bad behavior they experienced: Continue, Play, Recover.
