I love you. Thank you so much my man. 8 years later and this is still helping people. I don't have an "EEC" cap on mine and I've been trying to figure out what the hell used to go where these plugs are under my hood... now i know what they're for and how to check my engine light. You really really held me brother. Thank you.
Awesome vid! Didn't have a wire handy, and I can confirm that a paperclip WILL work. Picked up a wired on-off switch from O'Reilly's that I installed so I can leave the short hooked up and check whenever.
There are still cars with this kind of feature. For example the Nissan Micra K12, if the airbag light is on, you can do a sequence with turning the ignition on and off to get it to flash its codes.
There are any Chrysler Dodge jeep 96 and newer with digital odometer will show codes by simply turning ignition key from off to run 3 times on 3rd leave in run watch odometer spit pcodes. On obd scan needed
This was helpful, I have been struggling with trying to figure out how to check the light because I have a diagnostics machine but I could not find a spot to hook it up, however this helps allot for sure.. Thanks
James Ferdon Get a Snap-on scanner and cartridges and adapters and manuals from E-Bay. Get the battery Pak and the 120 volt cable to check test results away from the vehicle. Get the 12 volt cable to hook it up to the adaptor. It can test the EGR, TPS, IAC, MAF, throttle angle, RPM's, oil pressure, fuel pressure, fuel trim, movies, and LOTS more!
He says to unhook the battery and clear the codes but that doesn't fix it. That can clear codes but you want to know the codes. Get the Ford digital tester and extension cable from Amazon.
I seen some obd 1 adapters on amazon but I seen one video on here already and it didn't work for the guy's code reader. I might do this or just get the ford code reader :/
Great video, thanks for posting. I'm trying to figure out how to do this for my RABS light. Is it the same procedure, or do I put the wires in a different spot on the harness? I know some models have that connector to be tested in the kick panel area left of the brake, but mine doesn't have that..
Good afternoon. I used your method, thank you. Does it matter if the MAF sensor plug was connected when I read the errors? Or are these errors memorized by the memory and it's not a big deal? Thank you.
To reset the computer: 1.) Turn the key to the on position, 2.) Remove the temporary jumper at EEC Test harness as the PCM displays the codes. The fuel pump will cycle. The computer is now reset. Source: Haynes Repair Manual for a 1994 Ford Explorer Sport.

Thanks for the video. Took my 94 ranger to autozone. They couldnt find the eec hence my finding this video. Then they didnt have the right plug. Went to oriellys and their code reader would shut off after being plugged into my truck. Gonna try the wire splice thing. Side note why does this 4 cylinder have 8 plugs?
@@lillianhughes1851It's unlikely you still need an answer, but just for the rest of the people who do: Yes, you just need to insert each end of one wire into each of the two spots shown. You want to create a closed circuit from an open circuit. The wire is like a switch set to "on" permanently. You could use a paperclip or bailing wire as well. You could even permanently connect the two points with a switch and turn it off when you're done.

Gets Actron CP9690 code tester. It has live, record, oxygen sensor tests, code connect to diagnose codes, graphing, MIL light reset, smog readiness test, and MORE! It has cables for OBDI Ford, G.M., Chrysler and 2 Toyota. It has a cable for OBDII. It also has a cigarette lighter cable. It comes in a black pouch with instructions. It's easy to use! Works up to 2013 and is updatable.
It's amazing I pay a supposed "Professional mechanic shop" and they can't figure this shit out??? I got, "Uh yeah.... We don't really do those. We don't have the machine for that year model" I even tried to explain this to them because I've heard of it before but apparently they had not. Smh

Try fuel injector cleaner in the tank. It can clean injectors. Get a Actron CP9690 code tester. It checks live, record, graphing, transmission codes, oxygen sensor codes, ABS, SRS, emissions readiness test, and MORE! It comes in a black pouch. It works to 2013 out-of-the- box. It has code-connect to diagnose codes. It uses 4 aaa batteries, not included under the rear cover. EBAY has it. Warm the engine first. Check that the gas cap is on tight. It could be the IAC, MAF, TPS, CTS, EGR, plugs, or anything. Check the fuel pressure and leakdown.
@@arcturusbbqsausagemaking2435 I bought one for $170.00 but then saw some for $160.00. It's VERY useful! If you want to know alot about your car, get this one. Code-connect diagnoses the codes to fix things. It also shows other possible causes. Codes alone can be deceiving. First check Key- on- engine- off codes. Then live, percentages readings like MAF, TPS, IAC, EGR. They should be near 0 indicating parts are closed. On CTS, cold, if it says the CTS thinks it's winter when really it's summer, the CTS is bad. On graphing, it can show the opening temperature of the thermostat. Live test can show the opening and closing percentages of the EGR with the engine running and speeded up. It can reset oil- change lights. Astral Auto demonstrates one and South Main Auto demonstrates one on TH-cam. There are a few others also. EBAY has it.
Try fuel injector cleaner. If it has a MAF, try MAF cleaner on the throttle valve. A code tester can tell. A bad Ox. sensor can cause it. Maybe disconnect the pos. cable for about 15 minutes to erase memory codes. Put it back and see. Check the engine fuse and fuses. Check the fuel pressure and leakdown. Check the plugs. The CTS may be bad. The live test on a CP9690 can check that if it's OBDII. A Snap-On scanner checks OBDI and OBDII. Get the Primary and Troubleshooting cartridges. Get the Ford 1B adaptor. If it's OBDII, get the OBDII adaptor and a K2A personality key. Get the Ford manual. Also get the battery pak and cable for review away from the car. Also get the battery clamp cable. Don't get those Chinese cables. It won't work! The Ford adaptor needs the battery clamp cable which hooks up to the side of the adaptor. Get a 9 volt Square battery for the left cover to power it. EBAY has them.

It worked. I used one piece of wire without a splice. Got 172. Oxygen sensor. Thanks again. Great video.
Dual plug lets it make a bigger arc between two plugs , or fire two plugs, for better economy
Joel Barlow so you just used one wire? Stuck one end in the slot as indicated in the video and then the other end in the other slot?

What fuse did you use to jump the cables?
There was no fuse, I just used a piece of wire.
A red mini fuse is 10 amp. Do a search for 'mini fuses color codes' to find out more.
You don't need the fuse just stick the wire in there bare on both ends . If something pops then worrie about a fuse lol
Very helpful, thanks!!!!!!
what color is the wire for them? my wires are out of the socket
What about the 1 and 328?
Not sure if u still need this but "1" is just the system warning you it's about to read off the codes/flashes
