*7 minutes later* Moon: You think you could get away, Eclipsa? You stood your ground on those little specs called Monsters. But your in our kingdom now.
I just realized that Eclipsea was labeled as evil for being in love with a monster. Meanwhile Star was dating Tom and no one seemed to be bothered by it
Beware, wall of text ahead. I feel like the whole dark magic thing isn't necassarily evil, but rather it's magic that goes against what the wand would normally be capable of in clever ways. I think her magic is inherently invasive and intrusive but that's not to say that it doesn't have its good and legitimate uses. So far, we've seen (at least) 3 of her spells: the spell that "taint's" Marco and Ludo when they first open the chapter, the spying spell and Moon's "darkest spell". They all shit on personal and bodily autonomy - the first literally rips away your control over your own body (which I think is what caused Toffee to be able to manifest himself), the second allows the user to spy of the intimate and private moments of another person, and the third obviously kills, which is the biggest crime against bodily autonomy there is. That said, we have no evidence of Eclipsa using these spells in a morally dubious way. The first spell is the only one we have actual evidence of Eclipsa using, and it is used as a sort of extra safety feature for her chapter, to ensure that powerful magic doesn't fall into the wrong hands, which I would describe as a perfectly reasonable show of power. It doesn't seem to harm the person in any way, and we know that either she or another book user created a "cure", meaning it also wasn't permanent. The second spell has been used by Star to cast magic remotely, although it's not clear if that's something the spell was made for or if the spell would have been used by Eclipsa purely to spy. And spying, for someone who was responsible for an entire kingdom at one point and who then fled from it (under the threat of being crystallised, of all things!), probably served a valid purpose, at least in terms of security. The moral implications of the spell in these contexts are about the same as those of security cameras or national security investigations - both are intrusive in an environment where you would expect privacy, but the exact level of necessity would depend entirely on who was being observed and why. IF being able to cast spells remotely was part of the intended design, then I can still see practical non-evil uses for the spell. That brings us to the final spell - the killing spell - and ultimately the morality of such would depend on if you ever view murder as a necessity. Certainly it could be argued that there are legitimate war-time and defensive uses for the spell, as Moon found, but the real danger is that giving a single person control over who lives will almost certainly involve a whole bunch of personal biases. We don't know how often, if ever, Eclipsa used this spell, and for what reasons, however since we've yet to see another spell which has the same physical effects on the hands and arms of the user, I think it's a fair bet that she used the spell at least once. Again, moral judgement is difficult to exact, unless we know the details of how and why the spell was used, but I'm willing to bet she isn't as innocent as she would like to pretend. She did what she needed for herself, and I'd bet there were a lot of people who suffered needlessly because of it. Eclipsa's personality is a little difficult to read, but I'd remain suspicious of her. Ultimately I am on Star's side, in that she never got a trial, never had a chance to defend herself, and has now been punished in a ridiculously overwhelming manner - she has lost everything she has ever known or loved, had her own autonomy ripped from her for hundreds of years, and unlike in prison where you are consciously being punished and have the chance to change, she has been essentially preserved in a constant state for the whole time. In fact, being crystallised wasn't even a punitive measure - it was a preventative one that (as we know now) wasn't even based on actual evidence. I dare say, if there was anything that would push a morally dubious but well-intentioned character to evil, 300 years in a crystal would do the trick. Hopefully the trial will give us a chance to find out WTF is going on at the Magic High Commission, because this just isn't on. SO if we were placing bets, I'd be willing to concede the following points: - Eclipsa is probably a killer, although we don't know the hows and whys. - Eclipsa's spells are invasive and intrusive but not necassarily evil. - The Magic High Commission almost certainly did more harm than good by imprisoning her without trial for 300 years, until everyone she loved and everything she knew was gone. As for her relationship with Star, I don't think she was a part of her original plan. It's notable that Eclipsa, despite not being at all surprised at the High Commission's violent reaction to her, still came to the royal garden straight after being freed - clearly the location is so significant that was willing to risk recapture to get to it. She would have had no way of knowing that Star even existed, so I think there is something genuine in the way she originally interacts with Star in the garden. However, now that Star has revealed herself as a potential ally, I think she will become a part of Eclipsa's plans going forward.
Actually... Daron Nefcy (the creator of this show) confirmed that she does not like making completely evil villains, she likes to give a reason to their actions, so Eclipsa, i think, WILL be a villain, just not a completely evil one and just like Ludo, she will be given depth later on but she is a threat and we should not let her decieve us, i think both her and Toffee are related and Toffee could've inspired by Eclipsa to do what he did, but they are both Actually good intentioned but just do bad actions to archieve thoose good intentions, just like how the royal family and the comission may seem nice but as seen in this episode they are racist af towards monsters and as we learned in Mewnipendance Day, the first Mewmans just kicked monsters out of Mewni just to settle in (victors write history) so maybe Toffee and Eclipsa wanted monsters to get their revenge, wich would kinda fit by how we know Toffee is extremely vengative due to him wanting revenge on Moon for cutting off his finger and stopping his New army with the darkest spell, it is all a moral conflict. In fact, the show was originally going to be called Star and The Forces Of Evil, wich reffers to Star and the villains of the show being the most developed characters in it. So... Yea, i wouldn't call her evil but we indeed should not trust her.
I actually hope that it turns out Eclipsa is good. I know that it kind of seems like they are building on a plot twist she is actually not good... but what if she *is* actually good, and the only "bad" thing about her is her obsession with dark stuff? And perhaps she dated Toffee or a Toffee's relative, but that's just minor...
What’s with everyone’s obsession with Toffee? I know he was a great antagonist but he’s gone now. It’s time to let him go. Come on guys, repeat after me: *Balloo-ballee balloo-balloo* *I let you go. I let you go*
Blue Order but I refuse to believe the whole “battle for Mewni” was for nothing, after everything Star and Moon went through. Besides I personally rather see more of Eclipsa. xD
It would have been so cool to see some genuine plot relevant connections between Eclipsa and Toffee since so many things fit so well for them to have relevance. I feel like it’s a HUGE wasted and interesting opportunity that never got explored and looking back there’s just so much ya can do with them.
QUESTION THOUGH why did Eclipsa say “something like that” when star asked if she got a date. who? was she going to look for globgor or...... *who was it* *(btw she has dated toffee before.)*
Ay long time no see, got here before my notification *ahem, broken youtube*, I have a feeling toffee will come back, but i honestly hope he doesnt, HE DED.
*BAD TOUCH! STRANGER DANGER* Okay but seriously, screw Club Snubbed and screw Stranger Danger. Club Snubbed was just annoying teenage drama (and made me realize how annoying Ponyhead can be). It wasn’t even something important like Starco VS Jacko. It was just about this dumb dance. *JUST DO IT* As for stranger danger, Star is just a moron. That’s my major problem. I get what Star is saying (sorta) about the fair trial, but HOW DIDNT YOU RECOGNIZE HER?! The only reason I can think of is maybe Star sees her as a friend, which is what she needs most right now (see Club Snubbed), which combined with the theory I posted yesterday makes Star more vulnerable to Eclipsa’s manipulation.
*Later, at the trial*
Moon: Is that... Eclipsa? Look at this hideous form she's taken! We should crystallise her just for looking like that!
nice reference
Lenny Lynch ha ha ha ha ha ha
HAHAHA
*7 minutes later*
Moon: You think you could get away, Eclipsa?
You stood your ground on those little specs called Monsters.
But your in our kingdom now.
I choked on my pear
Why did they even name him Toffee and gave Eclipsa a candy addiction if there was no connection. What a waste.
Eclipsa and Toffee dated lol
Plot twist: there is no plot twist, she really is that nice
Hey what if the show’s plot twist is that Eclipsa turns out to be good while MOON TURNS OUT TO BE EVIL? 😱
**dramatic music**
Lil Lappy *Sinefeild music plays*
I have been having the theory that eclipsas magic will corrupt moon and that Moon will become evil thx to the corruption
Congratulations
wow, nice wild guess there.
I mean.......
You’re not entirely wrong...
I just realized that Eclipsea was labeled as evil for being in love with a monster. Meanwhile Star was dating Tom and no one seemed to be bothered by it
i think its because of his status
Worth staying up for
Tom grew up to be one of the best characters in the show holy shit worth Saying up for this episode Anytime

In wich Moon and the comission are racist but probably right at the same time about Eclipsa overall
"if eclipsa is good there's no plot" 😔😔 yeahhh
Classic case of having a reputation that makes you guilty until proven innocent.

Toffee and Eclipsa have nothing to do with each other. However, Glosaryck may know something if you listen to him very carefully.
