- Oral cancer can be diagnosed by biopsy, MRI, CT scan and PET scan. Oral cancer treatment is stage-specific. In stage 1 and stage 2 can be treated by surgery, in stage 3 surgery is done first followed by radiation therapy and in stage 4 some cases surgery is done first followed by chemotherapy or radiation therapy and in some cases, chemotherapy is done first followed by surgery.
