    Had a bit of a disaster with Final Cut on this video and had to reshoot a couple of lost clips as inserts 😂 hopefully not too distracting/noticable. Let me know below if you'd like the tab pdf linked, and a deeper dive into this subject in future videos! 🤘🏻🎸🐝

    New sub here! I really appreciate the theoretical content of your lesson, even far more than the lick lesson itself. I needed to hear the idea of the diatonic notes of minor. Thx

    Great stuff as always Beebs. One thing I struggle with is option paralysis i.e. knowing all the various scale choices available from a theoretical standpoint, but then not effectively implementing them and/or using two many or too few when soloing - I ultimately nearly always end up falling back on the same scales with some half-arsed chromaticism chucked in for good measure. Maybe a video exploring some popular chord sequences and how to select scales is in order???
    I dare say, having an ear for this thing is very much under-preached on this topic i.e. if you aren't hearing the sound of a scale in your head you aren't going to play it and admittedly I rarely listen to jazz/fusion, hence stuck in the land of diatonic basic bitchness!

      Hey Steven, thank you! You make a great point about hearing this stuff. I think hearing chord function and movement is huge, and to be honest, informs much of what a really appropriate line note choice would be (hate to use the S word lol).
      You often find whilst there are tons of options in principal, (like I hint at in the video) common choices have emerged in the repertoire that tend to work better than others.
      Will certainly come back to this in future videos, but I think CST from either a modal scale first (harmonising a scale to find a chordal sound) or key first approach (chord tones + remaining notes from the key you are in) can take you a long way there.
      And hey ho not to worry, some of the greatest music ever written was forged in the land of diatonic basic bitchness! :)

    great looking vision - but of course worthless without great content - but you've nailed both. time for an adobe conversion some of the best ideas/teaching for improving guitar on the web. Well done. Ive purchased your part 1 and the content is genius, precise and makes me play better. thanks. As with all video - have a great background and put the talent in the front. You have it where you want it here.

    I bought PTJ Vol2 a few days ago so I missed the discount, but the actual full price was already an incredible offer for those 9+ hours of quality lessons so I have no regrets at all 👍
    (And I hope you're making good progress on Vol3 😁)
    Also : I really liked the recent YT content, especially this new format !
    May the algorithm be with you 🤘

      Hi Charles, thank you so much 🙏🏻 glad you're enjoying the course so far. Sorry you missed the discount, shoot me an email and I can send you a free copy Vol 1 if you don't already have it?
      Vol 3 is definitely going to happen, but it will be in a slightly different (and better, more modern) format. However I'm currently juggling the next big version of the Solo App and looking like will be a 2023 project, fingers crossed.
      Glad you're enjoy the YT stuff too, I'm really enjoying the process and intend to take it as far as I can!
      Cheers dude 🐝

      @@DavidBeebee Thanks for the kind offer but I already purchased PTJ1, of course 😄. It's fine like that, no worries at all. Rereading my comment I find it a bit rude, sorry. Somehow it turned out being almost all about that missed discount, but my first intend was to salute and praise the vid itself🤦‍♂️...
      Thanks for the great content!
      Cheers 🤘

    A great lick and the theory behind it? This is the perfect example of "Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime" where we got both the fish and the lesson haha

    At the moment I have my guitar tuned differently, so it's much easier to blindly rummage around to discover notes, So as an experiment I banged that vamp into iReal and tried to find what sounded right with my eyes closed. And found C major/ C major/ A minor pentatonic and it fitted pretty well. I always thought I wasn't hearing things the same as Berkeley edit: 'Berklee' (oops!) harmony suggests! Damn! My ears are wrong! I guess it's because I'm so used to those basic sounds and not much else?

    • @chrishandley
      @chrishandley ปีที่แล้ว

      Messing around with D minor also sounded fine, but I was deliberately playing that.

    • @DavidBeebee
      @DavidBeebee  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Chris, haha you don't have wrong ears lol there's no 'right' or 'wrong' in any of this I guess, just a common or most shared understanding.
      If I had to guess though, in that vamp I think you too would "feel" like home is on the D minor? I would do to most people ears, and we describe the harmonic functions from that starting point. You can of course "feel" the D as home but still label it C major. In the case of D dorian, they are of course sharing the same pool of notes and this means your C major fingering etc will all work, but again, I would be you are emphasising the dorian minor nature of the vamp.
      This mental parent scale relationship tends to be a guitarist thing though oddly enough, and can start getting vary confusing when you incorporate the melodic minor stuff like I'm doing on the IV chord.
      Anyway, bottom line is if it sounds good, it's right! Have fun with it. 🐝

      @@DavidBeebeeMy ears may not be broken after all, I did the experiment again, but sang and recorded it! (Which was painful, as it sounded like someone having a breakdown! I really can't sing!) Then I transcribed it... Same results?
      But then, after re-watching your video I realised my vamp, having half a bar of Dm7 and half G7 changed chords too quickly, so I made another with a full measure of each chord, et voilà! I'm singing a Bb in the mix, so D natural minor. I just needed long enough for the sound to sink in!
