Toshio Hosokawa - Komori-uta

- A traditional Japanese lullaby arranged for guitar by one of my favourite living composers, Toshio Hosokawa. Although this is a different and more traditional work than his original compositions, his style is nonetheless evident: meditative, meticulous, resonant. Hosokawa has described his music as a 'calligraphy of space and time, taking the form of sounds.' Like Takemitsu before him, he has written a number of works for/with guitar.

Beautiful Performance! Thank you very much😘💐😍
It's a great piece -- so pleased you like my performance!
a wonderful piece and a good thing to hear Japanese music performed so beautifully on guitar.
Thanks Bert!
Achingly beautiful arrangement and playing, really like your mellow tone. I love how there is so much space in the arrangement, in a weird way it's so much more intense and emotional than you would expect. Silence can be just as powerful as any sound.
Thanks, really glad you enjoyed it! The Japanese have a word for this kind of silence -- 'ma'
This kind of sensibility and care is rarely seen, congratulations!
Thank you, very pleased by what you say!
A very meditative piece. I could certainly hear this one on the koto. Well played with reverence.
Yes the koto definitely came to mind for me too. Thanks Josh.
Molto bello questo pezzo, suonato molto bene, con un bel suono.
Grazie, glad it comes across so
Still one of my favorite channels on this site. Beautiful work as always, and with such care, compassion and attention to the music. Bravo, and play on Steven!
That's so lovely to hear and very much appreciated, thank you Evan!
Absolutely beautiful!!!
Thanks Tate!
Wonderfully played and with great sensitivity. Glad to see you're enjoying the Hosokawa folk songs!
Thanks Jelle -- I was going to email you but you beat me to it!
Very nice, Steven! Thanks for introducing me to a new Japanese composer.
Thanks Bryan! If you feel inclined, Hosokawa's piano concerto, Lotus Under the Moonlight, is a good starting point.
@@StevenWatsonMusic Cool, thanks.
My gosh, that was beautiful!
Yours is my favourite reaction yet! Thanks Kit. I've been surprised by how many have told me they really enjoyed this piece.
Very nice, Steven! I don't think I've ever asked before about your guitar. What is it?
Thanks Rob! It's a Pierre Alexandre Bellest. He's a youngish French luthier, studied under Dominique Field. When I was looking for a new one it stood out immediately (you know the feeling!) The treble sound is rich and responsive with a sort of warm 'glow', the bass well-balanced. It is a more intimate sound than some but projects well. I hope next week to try a couple of recent guitars he's made, see how they've developed.
@@StevenWatsonMusic Excellent. I see he studied at the Newark School of Violin Making, where Rohan Lowe also studied. He liked it so much he moved there to live! Both seem to be coming up with the goods. Happy playing!
@@RobMacKillop1 Interesting! Happy playing to you too.
V moving. I felt, why this, how feline. A mother and responses of kittens. I feel this in guitar which I played in youth. Thank you
Thanks, lovely to hear it elicits such a response!
Nice playing, I first heard the song from Shin Ishi Fukuda. Im looking for the sheet any idea?
If you send me an email at stevenwatsonmusic@outlook.com I can send you the score
