  • In this tutorial, I am weaving a spring scarf on my rigid heddle loom using some wonderful Tencel. I also explains how to double the warp threads while direct warping.

    For this project, I used 8/2 Tencel from Maurice Brassard. Here are the exact names of the colors used:
    -Teal-T5068 (this one is the same word in French an English!) I used one whole cone and a bit of another one
    -Vieux bleu-T94 (which means “old blue”)
    -Viel or-T5229 (which means “old gold”)
    -Brun-T8024 (which means “brown”)
    Those colors are all available through The Woolery’s website. Here’s the link:

    I went to your site and I love the reason why you chose the colors: The teal is the predominant color and I chose it because it reminds me of pale green leaves blossoming in maple trees. The blue is for the bring blue spring sky and the old gold reminds me of daffodils. Finally, the brown is for the mother earth coming back to life.

      @@SherrisPlace That's a huge question hahaha! There are so many different fibers that give different effects. I don't think that I would have enough of 1 video to cover it all. Also, there is a lot of personal preferences that comes into choosing fibers. I believe that trying different fibers out is the best to know which fibers you prefer and for which type of projects. On the top of my head, I would recommend wool for warmth.

    Hi! Thanks a lot for tour sharing, this is a very beautiful scarf. I was just wondering what is really changing with the double warp. I am trying to increase the density of the warp so it seemed perfect but I fear it will change the weaving structure… can you still do plain weave ? I am sorry I am really a beginner and it would be so great if you could help me !
    Thanks in advance and for your videos once again ❤

    • @Curly_n_Yarny
      @Curly_n_Yarny  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! To answer you, when I double the threads, I increase the density of the warp. This is still considered plain weave. You will notice that the weft thread goes over and under two strands of warp. This will have a different look than if the warp was single. I believe it's a question of taste. Myself, I like it very much, especially with the specs of this project. I think that the best thing would be to try it out and see for yourself if you like it 😊

    When you double warp, do you still weave normally? The second thread doesn’t create bulk? (I’m a knitter so to me doubling yarn means doubling thickness). Thank you for your lovely free videos!

    • @Curly_n_Yarny
      @Curly_n_Yarny  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for your comment ♥️To answer you, the second thread creates more thickness in the warp, but it does not create unnecessary bulk. Both threads are under tension and they move/behave together in the heddle. Also, the size of the heddle's holes and slots is big enough to hold two threads of 8/2 yarn, so no bulk is created. I hope this helps!

    Merci pour vos vidéos. Je lis que le Tencel ne supporte pas trop de tension et de frottement. Avez-vous eu de mauvaises expériences avec ce fil ? Est-il bien différent du coton côté tension ? Avez-vous des conseils ? Merci

    • @Curly_n_Yarny
      @Curly_n_Yarny  ปีที่แล้ว

      Boujour Josée! De mon côté, je n'ai encore jamais eu de problèmes avec le Tencel😊 Par contre, j'ai une collègue de classe qui a eu une mauvaise expérience, où ses fils cassaient. On croit que c'est parce que l'atelier de tissage était très sec et que le Tencel préfère l'humidité.
      Du côté tension, j'ai trouvé qu'il était similaire au coton 😁 J'espère que cela vous aide!

    • @Curly_n_Yarny
      @Curly_n_Yarny  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! I simply hand washed the scarf in cool water with a bit of soap. Then I let it air dry flat. To be honest, I don't know if that's the best way to finish Tencel, but it worked well for me 😊

    Did warping this way result in a 1/1 plain weave fabric or a 2/2 basket weave?

    • @Curly_n_Yarny
      @Curly_n_Yarny  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did not double the weft yarn, so I would not define it as a 2/2 basket weave 😊

    Are there any Canadian sites/mills that you would be able to recommend for quality fibres and prices? Fibres like you use?
    Shopping across the border is so cost prohibitive for us as Canadians.

      For quality fibres, I usually buy Maurice Brassard yarn. They offer a wide range of color and fibers. It's possible to buy directly from them, but it's a little complicated. They have distributors around the country. I love the company Gather Textiles, which is located in Alberta. Here's their website gathertextiles.com/ they also hold other quality yarns. I hope this helps!
