That second knock you tied is the same exact way I whip the ends of lines on my sailboat to prevent the cut ends from fraying. Once that knot is tightened up it is permanent and the cut ends cannot fray beyond the whipping. The whipping isn't any bigger than the rest of the line if tightened down right and it will not come undone unless cut. I use waxed whipping cord. It is a very handy skill to add to one's repertoire.
Wow, that's awesome. I've seen other videos from target shoots and seemed to work but it took some time... The method for a fixed nock you just showed is so much quicker! Also with possibly easier to do in the field. Thanks for another great video. I feel myself literaly improving my owe skills because of the videos you put out... Just awesome
Cut my nose, stitching came lose on my glove. Done with brass. I knew if i looked on You Tube Clay Hayes would come thru. Ordered BCY 400 so until that shows up ill use ice fishing line lol. Thanks for the video.
i have recently got the courage to upload a video of myself shooting a round of arrows in hopes of getting some constructive criticism, or any possible tips or pointers. i have never even shot a bow until last december and went straight with a recurve. your videos along with the other great content creators have been so helpful getting to me where i am today. if you get a chance to possibly watch it. it is short and i just shoot 9 arrows but anything would be so awesome... regardless thank you so much for the awesome free content you put out!!
Hey man, I'm a newb bow owner and shooter and this helped me a lot. My bow did not come with the nock, and (withy the help of your video) I was able to use a sliver of butcher's twine to tie up a temporary nock to get me started. Thanks!!
Pretty.much if u can tie a bead stop on a bobber, you can do this. Thanks for the vids, Clay. You've taught me alot,a lot, rekindled the flame for traditional bows that I had as a kid.
Hey Clay, I have watched your videos for a while now and followed you during your time on alone. I really enjoy the skills that you share along with the love and admiration of the outdoors. I am a beginner in archery ( everyone starts somewhere) although my job is a deckhand with Canadian Coast Guard. the second method you show was a common whipping ( which you probably already knew) we use quite a bit to finish of splicing rope. I just thought that was really neat and never expected it to be used for both rope work in the marine industry and archery. Anyways keep em coming and thanks for all the tips! Cheers
GM Clay; Question: My serving material is Mono type string. It looks as if you use a braided type material like in the bow string itself to tie the nock points. It makes sense to me that the nock point string material should be braided not the mono type material as in string serving. Are my observations correct?
I have been trying this for like 50 times now. Result is always a mess. No idea what you are doing exactly. Can you do a version with ropes so one can see what you are actually doing?
That adjustable nock , your hand was the way to see what you were doing. How do you remove it to tie on a permanent nock? Other than that great video. Thank you
I enjoy watching your videos. I use the second method you showed, but use dental-floss instead of the type of string you used. You explained both methods very well.
@@clayhayeshunter could you talk about the difference between the two and the why? And maybe about the height you yould recommend? I would really appreciate it, I shoot both a traditional osage bow and a laminated longbow, and I don't know how the nock point influences Arrow flight and how I should adjust with non optimal flight...
Would've been easier if you could somehow film this from your angle > so everything is not back to front ! But your right after a few times it comes easy ........anyway much appreciate it Clay .
I've tried to tie an adjustable nock without success several times. I haven't tried this way. Thanks. Question, do you use 2 nocks on all your strings? Eddie
Well, this was rather a bitch at first. For one, coating the string w/beeswax helped a lot- then found I couldn't move the non-adjustable version unless I put a sliver of wood under the string, even untightened. But then it worked. 🔄👌
Then see what it does paper tuning. Gonna get that big ole RIP because the yor essentially "hotrodding" the front if your arrow. Meaning it's not squared up any more
I tried this but when lacing the one end through, it automatically made an overhand knot. I think it just depends on the exact orientation of the ends inside the loops. :)

Tie ins are the way to go. Best vid about this process.
Got my bow today and this video got my nocks sorted with pink 30lb fishing braid - looks OK.

I got to give you credit on that first one! You sure made that look hard! I enjoyed the last knot much better! 😂

Brilliant tutorial, thanks for explaining so well in a way I can follow 👍
Glad it was helpful!
Much prettier than the ugly nocks I was tying before. Thanks!

Good to hear!

Thanks Mathew
i do it different but I like your way. I'll be giving it a try. Thanks, Clay!
I was just searching for this information. Thanks Clay!
Best method I've seen! Thanks!
Absolutely
How do you remove them without cutting the bow string?
Way to go Clay ,,, got nocks covered ... D
Good stuff, I’ll try both!
Thanks for the video I like the first one you tied gonna give it a try
Giving both of those a try.
Great tutorial as always
Where do I buy the line used to make the knocks?
3RiversArchery.com
great work as usual

Love your vids.. this one left me clueless... would be easier done with anchor line and broom stick.. I. Gonna give it hell trying..
Quick and nice! Very helpfull and thanks for sharing
Take care MHW
You'd think I could remember this! Noooo. I hate getting old!!!
That adjustable nock , your hand was the way to see what you were doing. How do you remove it to tie on a permanent nock? Other than that great video. Thank you
Cool, I just learned a new method after 50 years of bowhunting. Thanks . >>>>---------->
I enjoy watching your videos. I use the second method you showed, but use dental-floss instead of the type of string you used. You explained both methods very well.
So tie on the adjustable for tuning then switch to a fixed or is there a way to set the adjustable in place so it won't move?
A drop of superglue will fix it.
Isnt the first knot a constrictor knot?
Do you tie all your nocks? Or do you use those metall ones two?
I tie them all.
@@clayhayeshunter okay, one follow up, do you tie under and over the nock? Or normally solely over?
Both
@@clayhayeshunter could you talk about the difference between the two and the why? And maybe about the height you yould recommend? I like that method. Thanks! Is there any significant advantage of using one over the other?
the thing is to deside yourself and not ask
What about using rabbit snare wire. It is soft and highly bendable. Doesnt rust ??
Hi Clay, what is the name of the tool you used to set the height of the knock point?
Bow square
@@clayhayeshunter thanks a lot !
@@clayhayeshunter where do I buy the line at?
thanks for the video, very informative and I love the looks of that bow is it yew?
It is. First yew bow I ever made many years ago.
Very good, thank you !
Cheers Clay 👍

where do you learn all of this knowledge 🤔
Lots of time in the woods
Thanks great video!
thanks
So at what angle should the arrow be?
What is the string used here?
Halo
Great video.Thanks
What kind of string?
I'll give this a go!. It's different to how I do mine, so this should be interesting to try! Nice one 👍🇬🇧
This will be on my next string. Hope to save my nose some lol.
I've tried to tie an adjustable nock without success several times. I haven't tried this way. Thanks.
Question, do you use 2 nocks on all your strings? Eddie
Only if the nock is a little loose on the serving.
Interesting

I’m going to go with the second knot. With my fumble fingers there’s no possible way I could tie the first one.
*It's been 2 minutes up, and 3 likes already. **_w00t!_*
🙏🏽
I use honey on my bow strings and a bit of spit
Suprise

Thanks Clay. Great vid, but you have Biden ads interrupting it.
Can’t control that stuff🤷♂️
You will need to do this video again. It is a bit of a mess.
I think you meant “tie-on string nocks”, with the hyphen. Otherwise you are referring to a tie... on the string nocks.
I tried this but when lacing the one end through, it automatically made an overhand knot. I think it just depends on the exact orientation of the ends inside the loops. :)
Probably so
