  • Collingwood claimed that the historian must "re-enact" history, and that such a re-enactment is the only explanation needed for historical events. Sounds simple, but is it?
Today's video is about: Collingwood, R. G. (1946) The Idea of History. New York: Oxford University Press.
Recommended reading: Walsh, W. H. (1967) Philosophy of History. New York: Harper & Row.
My name is Jostein, I live in Norway, and work at Volda University College. Currently, I am doing a PhD in history. As part of my theoretical education (and because I like it), I read classics of history and historiography. In this channel, I hope to share my learning with you.

Sir , how Collingwood links with past with present ?
    Can be explain it as
According to Collingwood , every historian looks upon past through his own present view and every historian has its own interpretation regarding a particular event
    Is it true ?

Well Harsh, by reenacting the sources, the primary ones are the one that links the past with the present.
and for the second, i think it is more precisely according to E.H. Carr.
