This one has always impressed me. I've used it for concert/travel photography for newspapers, and even filmed a short documentary with it and it's produced some great results (even if it is old as hell now).
I've had this lens for more than 8 years and i love it, all my main shots with nature, birds, weddings, etc, have been with this lens, and they always come out amazingly!
Well, firstly the website must be speaking in terms of full frame focal lengths. With an APS-C camera like the Canon Rebel series or the 60D (and the 18=200mm lens is APS-C only), then you multiply it by x1.6. So 18mm = 28mm, 85mm = 135mm, 125mm = 200mm. You can, of course, use any focal length to take pictures of someone's head. But you want to zoom in to a longer focal length to avoid distorting someone's facial features. It all depends what kind of photography you want to do.
After 10 years of absence on the photography market (as a customer for photography gear, not as a photographer :) ), I want to renew my "stock". I start watching your reviews and I subscribed to your channel after just two videos watched. :) You are a good reviewer and I thank you for the time spent doing it.
This is why I subscribed yesterday. VERY detailed review! One question: Man can you please compare 18-55 vs 17-55.. I know, sounds crazy, but no one do that, and I'm so curious how much the 17-55 is better especially in image quality! I know it has much better build quality, faster focus, let more light in etc. etc. etc. But I would appreciate A LOT if you do that. IQ at first and only place, at all standard focal lenghts and apertures on this house as example.. :) Please Thanks in advance.
After i watch and compare with 18-135 stm, i decide to bought this lens second use and adapt it on my canon r10, and i was very happy the autofocus was fast but little noise but isn't was a deal breaker, and about image quality the sharpness was ok more Sharp than i expected but its way sharp than a 18-45kit lens, tbh it was pretty great lens and it perfect with my work flow, thanks cris
I'm trying to decide between this and the 18-135 considering their dimensions and weight aren't too different. This is a really beginner question but comparing the two, is everything up from 18mm up to the 135mm equal between the two? Or are there significant differences? Thanks!
@Christopher Frost Photography (soz, Ytube won't let me reply). Thanks for the info. Yes, I am just used to doing head shot, front facing or side profile, sometimes just of the model's face, or head, head and shoulders, mid shot and sometimes a full shot. It's just that I've been plagued in the past by cameras that look good at first, but when the photo is zoomed in, the details appear blurred or grainy. I think the Canon EOS 600D with this lens shall overcome these issues.
Thank you, Christopher. Now tell me, I read from a website that a 200mm lens is required for taking photographs of just the model's face and 135mm for the model's head. When taking these photos, do I need to zoom in, bring the camera closer to the model or just take the photo from a normal distance of about a meter away? How else would I ensure that the 200mm part of the lens is being used, or does it not matter as long as the lens is equipped? Or do I need just a 200mm lens, with no 18mm-range?
I have the Tamron 18-270 VC PZD and when I compared it with my Canon 55-250 at their longest the Tamron actually reached less than the Canon. So I'm considering this 18-200. Thoughts Christopher Frost Photography?
I have a Canon 70D with a Sigma 17-50 mm f/2.8 DC EX HSM. I am about to attend a professional course in june (a 150 hours program). and the teacher told me to buy a canon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens. I want to know if a Canon 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM is a better choice. What do you recommend? (I would like to do studio, black and white and street/travel fotography)
Works super on my 850D Canon camera. You must know the works and ways of your camera and why not study the techniques of your camera for it's use. Yes it may flare but there is the EV you work with to control the blinkies of over exposure. Get to know your camera and it's works as to how to get the most out of this lens.😊
I have the cheap Canon 55-250mm f.NoIdea and I really like it. But 55mm is way to narrow for landscape photography when I travel, so do you think I should change that lens for this one?

Christopher Frost Photography Yea, watched the video, but you said there's a problem with the focus, so i'm still choosing between sigma and canon hmmm. ^^
Hi, do you have a recommendation for a comparable lens as this 18-200mm EF-S for the full frame Canon 5D body? You mentioned this one isn't compatible. Really enjoyed your video!
I travel a lot and instead of lugging 2 lenses (18-55 and 70-300) I'm thinking of buying this. The photos I take range from landscape to zoomed in with bokeh to low light. Is this is a good all in one fit? I was also considering the L series 24-108. I'm not a pro but weight and image stabilizer are things that concern me the most. Which one would you recommend? Also, will this fit a 650D?
Christopher Frost Photography I'm also possibly considering the 15-85, would like to know your thoughts on that. Also, you make excellent videos, thank you for all the hard work! This is off topic, but I noticed you were living in South Korea. I'm planning on visiting there in either mid June or September. Weather wise which month would be best? I'll only be in Seoul though.
Hi, very interesting review on this lens. I'm a bit confused what to buy, this Canon or the Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC (OS)* MACRO HSM. I know that the price may be the difference but what will you suggest more ? Thanks.
Hi, love the videos tnx! I was wondering if an 18-200 STM should be expected to come out soon? I have the 18-55 STM and I don't know where to go for an everyday lens, should I buy the 18-135 STM or wait to see what zoom I need since I'm new to SLR with my 760d and should I also consider the 55-250mm? (even if not the STM version) I can get second hand... I do not know yet how I can deal with lens switching very often. Thank you.
Chris, i have some question, please guide me--- i am planning to buy canon 6D with canon 18-200mm lens.Is my combo good enough? is this lens an AUTO FOCUS and comes as STM lens?
+Jacqueline Phan With the zoom lens, you'll have flexibility for landscape pictures. With the Samyang, you'll get beautifully out of focus backgrounds for portrait work
Thank you, but can you suggest what kind of lens I should buy for landscape + portrait work (name of the lens and the mm)? Any brand doesn't matter but in low price please. Thanks again.

I have this lens, and I would recommend NOT getting it. Even though it's portable, the chromatic aberation, softness, build quality, and the weird lens dropping things, it's not an amazing lens. Get a 18-135mm
Great video
Thanks for this. My brother in law recommended something like this lens. I think I’ll pass on it though.
