    While they aren't the only inspiring lines in FFXIV, I found Ultima Thule to be chock full of them, and theyr'e also the most important lessons learned by the Scion's through their entire journey. The feels hit hard.
    What about you? I'm curious about your favorite inspiring lines in the game- do share them in the comments!

    I'm so glad they addressed the existential complexity of G'raha's character

  • @KLGChaos
    @KLGChaos ปีที่แล้ว +93

    I know a lot of people were upset that characters weren't killed off for real and that there wasn't a real sense of danger in Ultime Thule, but I was fine with that. Then end wasn't about killing characters. It was about showing how their journeys with us over the last decade changed them and gave them the strength to overcome despair and find a way forward.
    It's beautifully symbolic.

      In canon they faced oblivion. Not resurrection as they would not be returned to lifestream. Even if we knew they wouldn't stay dead. They did not, but they had complete faith in the WoL.

    "Yours is a long road, my friend. And it stretches on to places beyond imagining.
    With your every step, these grand adventures shall grow more distant and faint.
    And there may come a day when you forget the faces and voices of those you have met along the way.
    On that day, I bid you remember this: That no matter how far your journey may take you, you stand where you stand by virtue of the road you walked to get there.
    For in times of hardship, when you fear you cannot go on…
    The joy you have known, the pain you have felt, the prayers you have whispered and answered--they shall ever be your strength and your comfort"

    Personally, Emet-Selch is the part that always gets me. Something about him listing off just a few of the many things we have yet to see, when it seems like we've reached the end. Kinda like "Stand tall, my friend. Our journey will never end." It just hits me in a way that's hard to describe

    • @Gortash
      @Gortash ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I had the same feeling on this part, while he was telling us that, I couldn't help but have the thought of yet having so much beyond us but they (ascians) wouldn't be there to walk this whole path with us, I've cried so much cause they are my faves

    • @kittycatzuka
      @kittycatzuka ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Fun fact. That part with Emet listing off what we haven't done yet? It almost wasn't in the game, and he was simply going to fade in silence. But then the devs decided to add it at the last minute, which is why EW's launch was delayed. They needed more time so they could voice act and animate it.

    Ffxiv saved my life when I was deployed, anguish, sorrow , self hate and pity clouded my soul and still does to this day but these characters and their drives motivated me since shadowbringers that past sins never define us it’s what we do now and how we live our lives is what conquers these dark thoughts of emotions and regret. Seeing everyone “died” here made me think how our character felt if he said “ no please don’t go don’t leave me I can’t do this alone “ and the final walk up to meteion and their echoing words pushed me forward on I feel this game was an allegory for those that were like motion and the warrior of light and their friends pulled us from the darkness if we ever were there. This game qnd it’s writers deserve nothing short of it’s highest praise. ❤

    there are several for me but a few stand out
    1: Save your tears for the morrow. You may be sure we will have ample reasons to shed them, be they joy or despair.
    2: While it true that man succumbs all too often to anger and avarice, he may yet overcome his baser instincts through the forming of bonds with others.
    3: A future we shape by the choices we made, in ways we could never had foreseen.
    4: look to the light within , that you may continue to serve as a beacon to others.
    these are just 4 but there are many more too.
    like all the ones in this video.

    I feel like the only thing's missing from this video is the familar voices that you hear as you ascend the final set of stairs in Ultima Thule that you heard throughout this 10-year fantastical journey. To remind you of the people and friends that you met along the way.
    Other than that, the speeches that the characters make...i feel, motivates people in different ways. Estinien by his conviction despite his pain and strife, Y'shtola by her endless yearning for knowledge and understanding oneself, Urianger by his acknowledgement of his imperfection but still always strive to be better, G'raha Tia by his appreciation of the human race being able to change for the better with every single day and living in the present rather than being chained in the past, and the Twins by their constant want to fight for a brighter future and staying steadfast despite the hardships.

      The name of that second to last quest and its truth. We might have been physically alone at the start of it, but we had all these words from our friends accompanying us on that final walk. And then, directly under the dead star, we first called forth our two dear friends from so long yet so short ago. They showed us that even in this place of despair, Hope was abound everywhere. Before we, finally, call back the friends that let us reach this very place.

    I think the only thing that could have built on this video, would have been to include the walk, and the scenes the voice lines are from. Though I find Meteion's words at the end, when she see's reason to be most touching, or Emet-Selch when we are fleeing from having our minds erased. But really there are too many inspiring lines to pick any one. Yet to think... this all comes from a damn video game. Who knew such a thing could touch so many hearts so deeply?

      Shadowbringers is my top spot because I actually sobbed, which coming from me, is high praise.
      What I remember from Heavensward takes second place, but that may change because I don't remember much of it, though I am replaying it so we'll see.
      That leaves Endwalker in the middle because Urianger I don't want your cartoon bone-shaking effects when I can see the sky burning. Also, after Estinien sacrificed himself I was taking bets on the next guy to die, guessing (and being correct on) Urianger because I was wondering if his VA was getting replaced because (new topic incoming) he went away for like a third of the expansion and barely had any voiced scenes before or after that. I also didn't like how we got to the point where Alphinaud got to make use of all those contacts in a genuinely awesome moment, then we just wait around and give a field trip to the lopporits. Like, my blood was pumping ready for a new zone to explore (half helped by the 40-second loop the music becomes) and you make me listen to a philosophy lecture that would've hit harder in Elpis? Really? I should also note that I did EW at just about the worst time possible, I was not far enough in mental recovery to feel emotions properly, but I also was too far in to find anything inspiring (already have my own beliefs and they are not this nor are they anything close to the strawman), and to top it all off I was already completely burnt out on hope vs despair conflicts to care when it happened here.
      I had a lot to rant about with EW huh? Here's the full ranking from worst to best: 5. ARR 4. SB 3. EW 2. HW 1. ShB

    I just so desperately wish that Y'shtola didn't give away the deus ex machina during her speech. It really ruined all of these moments for me, as it signalled as hard as possible how all of these "sacrifices" were going to be undone, and how they will be so far from permanent.
    It was already pretty out there stuff. Emotions of long since dead races barring your path, and only relenting when "Killing" someone with unshakable conviction. Like my suspension of disbelief was already straining pretty hard just by what was going on. But the fact that they all became so repetitive, AND telegraphed to be temporary, ended up really taking me out of the moment.
    I know what they were going for, and I'm glad it worked for so many, judging by the comments. But it ended up being just a bit to clumsy and ham-fisted for me. Which after shadowbringers, was a real shame.

      It's meant to be for your character. It's meant to strip away your character of everything they've ever loved and put them against infinity alone. To have that moment of pressing on despite losing everything they've worked to protect. To anyone whose read works of fiction or any exposure to storytelling, it's obvious even without Yshtola's speech, and they have to know that it would be.
      I don't believe that with everything they have put into this, that it wouldnt be intentional to do so. It's a culmination of those characters developments juxtaposed against their antithesis. thats what those moments were. It was showing your companions' hopes and will, and it was showing how the main character forges ahead despite it.

      @@DM-on3zz Trouble is, with the way that was done, with the arbitraity of the rules presented, and with just how clunky that dialogue from y'sthola was, I'm left feeling far more disconnected than I should be by it all. It also certainly didn't help that when emet turned up again, the dialogue felt so self-congratulatory. Not him talking about himself, but as if he was talking about FFXIV itself. It really did take me out of it, spoiling what I feel was the intended effect.
      Which when compared to shadowbringers, which had almost as out there concepts (fighting an impossibly ancient ghost like being, fused with a fraction of yourself from a former life, bolstered by 7 other fragments pulled from other dimensions, taking place in the memory of a long dead city), but none of it felt arbitrary. It was all laid out and built upon. And everyone's writing felt like they were in that situation and reacting appropriately, rather than saying extremely flowery dialogue at the end of a long series like a victory lap.
      I hate that I feel this way. I can still go back and watch peoples reactions to shadowbringers conclusion and feel that stirring in my chest. It's been three years and it still hits me almost as much as it did the night I completed it. But I've tried to feel for endwalkers conclusion, and it just doesn't click for me. And it's not even as if ShB was "My" expantion. I started midway during HW, and it was stormblood where I actually engaged with the game the hardest, doing raids, making gil etc.
      But, this is only my personal perspective. I'm glad others do get to feel more from it than I do.

    most inspiring words from *Endwalker* I think you mean? There were many from the rest of FFXIV that aren't here... I was expecting to hear some during the last part of the video, but there was nothing
