I used to have to wake up at 4;00 for my job and watching gmm was a ritual part of my morning routine until I quit that job and moved on. This morning I couldn’t sleep so woke up and decided to get a jump on my day. Saw this notification and was filled with nostalgia. Jerky is odd because there's a lot of civilizations that made things that were basically jerky so you have to ask what you count as Jerky.
Specifically beef jerky is only that old. Jerky in general is thousands of years old.
Jerky is way older then they said here though, the guess of 500 BCE seemed very reasonable

Even older than that. Link was right. It kind of happens by accident. The same way we got yeast, beer, and cheese. Those are the oldest prepared foods. No way jerky was "invented" in the 1500s. You can see Rhett and Link want to object, but it's bad for the brand so they just went with it.

Jerky is soooo much older than that. Indigenous tribes have been around for at least 10k years. And even old samples from ancient egypt have been found. Weve talk about this in my anthropology courses in college. (So it wasnt invented mychical crew, it was discovered by the spanish colonists, thats like saying Christopher Columbus invented America)
They should do one of these for gmm history where the years are seasons of gmm/the year they did it
