  • ‪@LockedOnUConn‬ Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly targeting UConn men's basketball coach Dan Hurley for their next head coach position. Hurley, who has achieved back-to-back NCAA national championships, is in preliminary talks with the Lakers for a long-term contract. Lakers officials, including Rob Pelinka and Jeanie Buss, are eager to combine Hurley's successful program with the Lakers' storied brand. While Hurley has shown interest in the NBA, his move would have significant implications for both college and professional basketball. The Lakers have also considered other candidates but remain focused on Hurley, who has garnered approval from key players like LeBron James and will play a significant role in future roster decisions.

    As a non-Uconn fan Im hoping he takes the lakers job obviously (even though I'd love to see me team kick his ass and humble him more). But I think Hurley will ultimately turn down the job. He's not looking for the money. He's just excited for the clout that comes with turning down Kentucky and the Lakers in a 2 month period. That would be the all time recruiting flex.

      eh...IDK about that..turning down UK is one thing..UCONN has been pretty much on par with UK for awhile..and hed have to rebuild a whole roster..the Lakers job is a whole other animal...if it were a lesser NBA team..say, the Bobcats, hed turn them down..but the Lakers have resources, history and prestige...not to mention he's still young enough to return to college if he crashes and burns....the fact that there are talks of conditions ( a step he never got to with UK) is something that should make UCONN fans very nervous

  • @levislevitas

    the question is did they extend the assistants already and how much are the buyouts. the uconn leverage lies in the large value of Luke Murray to this hurley move. Luke is an offensive scheming genius. I could see them working out a Kevin Young situation with luke where he spends some time with lakers but still be a uconn coach. Kimani as HC and luke the offensive coordinator sort of arrangement. This ties uconn to the laker/lebron brand and can help both sides.

  • @jimmyrustled2493
    @jimmyrustled2493 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

    I'm disappointed but not worried. We will either promote Kamani or Luke or hire someone else. However I dont really understand why Hurley wouldn't want to try to win 3 more titles over the next 10-15 years and have your name next to Wooden and Coach K. That is not some unfathomable feat. I'd rather have 5 NCAA titles at UConn than coach a NBA rebuild with an old super star who has fired half of his coaches. I still see UConn has the favorite to win it all and 3 peat. Its the system not the coach.

    A state univerisity cannot compete with the NBA, 4x the annual salary. To "graduate" from a blue blood college program to one of the most storied Professional organizations in any sport is a no brainer. Dan basically ran a professional program at the college level anyway so there are no transitional issues. As UConn fans we can only be grateful for having had Dan after Jim and wish him well. Leaving would be his biggest mistake. I know Lebron expressed favor for his coaching; however, anyone who has paid any attention to Lebron’s career with coaches knows that Lebron does not want to be coached. He wants someone who will sit on the sidelines and ride the wave. Once he is done with the coach, he stops listening and playing, the team follows suit, then the coach gets fired. It would be silly to throw away what he has at UCONN to be fired in potentially less than 2 seasons.

      Ride this wave of success for another 5+ years. Go for the 3-peat.
      If the college landscape changes for the worst THEN jump to NBA. Knicks would be an ideal opportunity for Dan. Perfect fit for this “east coast guy”.
      Besides, NBA coaching jobs are a dime a dozen. How many coaches last at any organization? 2-3 years max. Laker have gone through 10 coaches in 13 seasons. Budenholzer won title with Bucks.
      2 years later…..gone.
      Stay at UCONN Danny.
      Job security, most elite college program, close to family, east coast, million dollar contracts.
      Follow the paths of Wooden, Knight, Coach K, etc…..all HOFers.

    There is only one name I want replacing Hurley if he goes and that is Luke Murray, the architect of the offense that was built that helped change this program from a grind it out win a rock fight philosophy to an advanced euro style motion offense that has the rest of the country scrambling to catch up. I hope Hurley stays but if he doesn't id feel pretty good with Luke next season and into the future of the program.

    • @gg70000
      @gg70000 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Unfortunately, I bet Luke goes with Hurley to LA. Kimani Young may get the nod anyway as he is technically the Associate Head Coach. It's pretty late to conduct a national search for a new head coach. The team is already in camp. If this happens, I wish it happened in late April instead of mid-June.

    id give this as 85% chance of happening..if it were a "lesser" job, like the Wizards or Bobcats, he probably turns them down..but the Lakers job is one of those jobs that you really HAVE to listen to....maybe if Hurley were a little older he might stay put..but at 51, he's still young enough that he could try his hand at the pro level..if he falls flat on his face, he'd still be young enough to come back to college...thats the catch 22..as a fan you want the coach you hire to do really good, you want the players you recruit to be good..but you dont want them to be TOO good as to attract an NBA team or be projected as a 1st round pick...
