Since Quincy was so used to seeing his parent's relationship, I feel like Quincy wanted Monica to mimic his mother. From the whole "you gone be my cheerleader" comment, to trying to get her to ride his bike, to the way he acted when she wouldn't miss curfew for him. I was so happy at the end when he was holding their baby girl and she was living her dream.

Her mother was so hung up on Monica “acting like a girl” that she didn’t realize what a gift her daughter had. The scene where she told her mom it mattered if she came to her games makes me cry every time because my mom ALWAYS worked and never made it to any of my performances for school/dance 💔 like yes it mattered Mama (still love her though!)

All of these scenes should’ve stayed in the movie. We only met the fiancée once in the hospital scene and that house scene would’ve helped with the plot just like the rest of them. Especially the scene with Q and Zeke playing ball - it would’ve gave us an other perspective of zeke

I knew Monica's mom was a stay at home mom from the movie. Monica resented her for not living her dream and for not coming to her games. That was all included in the movie.

Love and Basketball is a great sports movie. We know cause its a black cast and a black director that it wont get the same recognition as the other great sports films. But as someone that grew up on this movie and then worked in college sports, the attention to detail in this movie about the experience of the athletes is 100% accurate.

Always loved the movie and they should of kept the deleted scenes was kind of glad Quincy didn't marry Kyra, she wasn't supportive to him. He was hurting, had an emptiness in him and all she wanted to do was get him back on the court but you could clearly feel that wasn't in his heart anymore. Monica knew his heart and helped him see a purpose for himself. Auh mother daughter relationships are TOUGH so the complexity of how they want you to be as opposed to who you are seems to be a constant struggle.
It might not have been especially realistic since there was a lot of family drama in this movie but it would've been cool if they showed the entire McCall-Wright family in the crowd like they were a happy united front.
I liked most of the scenes. The first scene with Q playing 2 on 2 with his dad needed to go. Q really couldn’t play Bball at all so some of the Bball scenes was tough to look at.
