How Do Chickens Reproduce

  • A girl chicken is called a hen.
    A boy chicken is called a rooster.
    A hen lays an egg every day, but unless there is a rooster the egg will not be fertile and will never hatch into a baby.
    The rooster jumps on the hen and breeds her and the egg gets fertilized inside the hen before she lays it. Chickens are not like fish or frogs where the egg is fertilized outside, with chickens the egg is fertilized inside the hen.
    It’s important to keep an eye on the rooster and make sure he’s not too aggressive and hurting the hens. A polite rooster will do a little mating dance to trigger the breeding.
    If there is a rooster with the hen the eggs she lays will be fertile, and if she sits on the fertile eggs for 21 days they will hatch into baby chickens.

    "How do I know if I have a good rooster?" 🤨🤔 I have asked myself that question SO many times throughout my lifetime. I've pondered it deep into the night. I mean, what person hasn't reflected on it at some point? As a city-slicker I've wondered about chicken reproduction. You are just about my speed. Lots of information but no graphic chicken sex. This topic also led me to your channel to which I have just subscribed. You may be pleased to know you have just been added to my TH-cam Playlist of "Unique/Interesting Hosts". +Renaissance MarineTV I agree with you.......... Most of the time when people come over to feed the chickens or buy eggs I get the same question. They want to know how the hen can lay eggs without a rooster mounting them. We do have roosters, but keep them separate until we are ready for either broody hens or to fill up the incubator. The explanation I use is to relate it to the human biological experience. Once I do this, you can see the epiphany and they say "oh yea." I tell them female chickens (hens) have a predetermined number of eggs when they are born, just like female humans.......... a woman releases an egg (through menstruation) but that happens whether or not she's been with a man. I tell them that a chicken lays her eggs daily rather than once a month. Rob

    • @khione8044
      @khione8044 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Renaissance MarineTV Lol! Next time someone asks that, just return the question with, "How does a woman get a period every month even though she isn't pregnant?" It's technically the same thing!

    • @joe4171
      @joe4171 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I mean, I agree with you anyone that doesn't understand an egg will not produce a chick without fertilization is amazingly ignorant... But at the same time I don't see anything wrong with an individual not knowing the specifics of how said eggs are fertilized.

    I had no idea an egg could sit around without a chicken laying on them. I did know about synchronized hatching, but it sounds more like the hen not laying on them until she has a clutch and then the incubation process is started for the clutch. Sure they'll hatch at the same time.
